Vol. 14, No. 12 – Mar 10 – Mar 23, 2021 – Harbor Patrol Blotter

Wed 2/17

3:03pm, received a Mayday call from a commercial fishing vessel near the entrance to the harbor. Officers responded in Rescue B-19, found the vessel disabled and towed the boat to their slip in Ventura HV safely.

Thursday 2/18

11:45pm, received report of injured pelican at VWM G-dock. Officers responded with bird rescue volunteer and found the bird with a fishing hook in its beak. The responders were able to remove the hook from the bird.

Friday 2/19

12:13pm, dispatched to a medical aboard a 100ft crew boat inbound. Officers responded and escorted the vessel to the village fuel dock where AMR medics took the patient and transported to local hospital for further evaluation.

Saturday 2/20

9:50am, received request for traffic control of the main channel of the harbor from H.R. Morris dredge so they can drop the submarine pipe across the harbor entrance to dredge the sandtrap. Officers responded in the Fireboat and RB19.

12:15pm, received Mayday call of a sailboat in distress near Surfers Knoll in the surfline. The skipper was alerted to drop anchor and don lifejacket. Officers responded by land (Harb1) and sea (RB-19) to assist the distressed 16ft sailboat. Incredibly, the vessels anchor held in the surfline with large waves and officers were able to pass a line and towed the vessel back to the harbor, safely.

Sunday 2/21

12:55pm, received report of a personal watercraft operating in excess of 5mph from the launch ramp to the South Basin of the harbor. Officers responded, contacted the individual and issued warnings for no PFD and speeding.

Monday 2/22

6:45pm, received a request for navigation assistance from an inbound sailboat confused with the dredging equipment in the main channel. Officers were able to assist the vessel to safely navigate through the main channel.

Tuesday 2/23

6:29am, officers raising the flags to half mast to honor 500k Covid-19 victims

Wed 2/24

9:40am, received report of an individual harassing wildlife from rescue volunteer. Officers responded and issued a written warning to the offender.

Saturday 2/27

6:40am, officers observed NWS issued a Small Craft Advisory for NE winds.

11:02am, received report of suspicious transient walking through the Harbor Townpoint timeshare. Officers responded, found the perpetrator, and removed.

2:10pm, observed and contacted two individuals attempting to launch SUP’s from the district longdock. After a long debate, the pair were convinced to leave

Sunday 2/28

6:00am, observed NWS issued SCA for NE winds, raised SCA pennant.

3:47pm, while on patrol in the vehicle, officers observed a transient who dropped all of their belongings in the intersection of Navigator and Anchors way. They assisted the individual gather his belongings and put back on trailer.

 

 

 

Vol. 14, No. 11 – Feb 24 – Mar 9, 2021 – Harbor Patrol Blotter

Tuesday 2/2

4:57am, receiving reports of a possible boat fire near Anacapa Island. Officers monitored radio coms between US coast guard and fishing vessels in the area. No boat fire was found, oil rigs burnoff or just the light boats in the area could have given reporting parties the illusion of a boat fire in the area.

Wednes 2/3

6:57am, received a report of an injured or sick seabird near Surfers Knoll. Officers found the injured Grebe, retrieved it for rescue volunteers to treat

Friday 2/5

10:51am, received dredging information from Manson construction. Pipe will begin arriving today. The dredge should arrive around 2/10 and begin shortly thereafter. The dredge cycle should last until March 15th.

Saturday 2/6

9:33am, received multiple reports of an injured pelican. Officers responded, found the injured bird and retrieved it for rescue volunteers to treat.

11:21pm, while on patrol in the vehicle, officers observed a vehicle with emergency lights flashing. The owner was intoxicated and had lost his key to turn off the lights. The individual is a crew member on one of the commercial vessels. He was helped to his vessel and the car lights flashed through the night.

Sunday 2/7

8:35am, receiving multiple reports of a transient possibly endangering himself near the launch ramp. Officers responded, found the individual and checked his welfare. The transient was alerted of concerns, complied and left the area.

Wed 2/10

10:35am, officers en route in the Fireboat to conduct traffic control for the Manson Dredge, H.R. Morris entering the harbor. Maintenance dredging of Ventura Harbor should last a month clearing the main channel, sandtrap and replenishing South Beach / Surfers Knoll areas of mass erosion.

Friday 2/12

12:34pm, dispatched to persons stuck in an elevator in the Ventura Harbor Village. Officers responded with VFD and found two children trapped. Responders were able to undo release tab on the door and release the kids.

Saturday 2/13

1:33am, dispatched to stage for a possible gun shot victim near Surfers Knoll. Officers responded with VPD, VFD and staged. Gun shots were heard but no injured persons were found after an extensive search of the area.
Sunday 2/14 10:25am, received report of a vessel taking on water at VWM A-dock. Officers responded with Tow Boat US on scene, dewatering and locating the source. Later in the day it was reported the leak was mitigated and pumps left onboard.

Monday 2/15

7:24am, observed an inbound vessel operating dangerously close to the dredge and North Jetty. Officers established contact on VHF 16 and were able to assist the large yacht navigate safely through the area. Any vessel navigating near the dredge H.R. Morris, should contact on VHF 16, then 67 for passing instructions.

Tuesday 2/16

11:15am, while on patrol in Rescue B-17, officers conducted a wellness check on a vessel that was taking on water in VWM a few days ago. No issues were noted with the vessel and it is scheduled to be hauled out tomorrow for repairs.

1:13pm, while on patrol in Fireboat 1, officers observed a seabird caught in a fishing line. Officers attempted to capture the bird to untangle the line, but the bird was able to free itself and fly away.

Tuesday 1/19

8:05am, receiving multiple reports of damage from the East wind event: trees down, cleats failing & trailered vessels in the dry storage blown around the yard.

9:30am, received report of a large powerboat that lost moorings and is colliding with the Fish&Wildlife vessel secured nearby. Officers responded by land and sea to resecure the cabin cruiser. The response was successful, damage minimal.

2:51pm, received a “Mayday” call on VHF 16, report of a 50ft catamaran breaking from its endtie moorings. Officers responded by vessels and vehicle to VIM I-dock to assist employees re-securing the SV.

Wed 1/20

10:30pm, while on patrol contacted by village security and assisted with removing 5 transients drinking, playing music & charging cellphones at VHV.

Thursday 1/21

6:33pm, while on patrol in the Fireboat, officers observed several fishing violations near the Harbor Entrance. Fishermen were warned of the violations and moved their hoop nets to legal fishing areas outside the breakwall/sandtrap.

Friday 1/22

4:54pm, received report of a semi-truck that drove against traffic from beachmont to Anchorsway dr. Officers responded and were able to contact the driver and warn about wrong way traffic. The driver advised he would update his companies GPS so that the mistake does not occur in the future

Saturday 1/23

10:03pm, received report of transients in the restrooms of the VHV boatyard. Officers responded and found homeless as reported. 3 persons were removed from the private restrooms and warned about trespassing.

Sunday 1/24

12:07pm, received report of a pollical protester screaming racial slurs and throwing a political figures’ picture at an individual parked too close to the disturbing party.

Friday 1/29

7:03am, while on patrol in the vehicle, officers observed the Santa Clara River berm is nearing breaching. Further observation showed the water is starting to flow towards McGrath along with heavy erosion from recent swell events.

Saturday 1/30

7:12pm, received a report of an injured sealion near VIM L-dock. Officers responded and observed the mammal, no injuries or sickness apparent. But, officers were contacted by a bicyclist who had an injured seabird. Rescue volunteers were contacted and picked up the injured bird for treatment.

Sunday 1/31

12:47pm, received a report of an injured seabird, a cormorant, at the launch ramp. Officers responded and found the bird was captured by a bystander. Possession of the bird was taken into a cage, awaiting rescue volunteer.

12:55pm, while on patrol in Rescue B17, officers observed a vessel engaged in hoopnetting in an extremely shallow area in the sandtrap. The vessel was moved to safer water, outside of the breakwall. Shoaling occurred because of the month-long Northwest swell event that deposited 200 cubic yards of sand there.

Monday 2/1

11:51am, observed a 25ft motor vessel inbound and listing heavily to port. Officers responded and escorted the vessel to the launch ramp and dewatered the vessel so they could haul it out on a trailer. The vessel was recently repaired.

3:45pm, received a walk-in report of a lost person, 89 y/o female who wandered off. Officers located the missing person at nearby business unharmed.

7:07pm, observed a sailboat secure to the VPD longdock. The weary sailor was in search of berthing due to a long voyage from Santa Barbara harbor.

7:33am, received dispatch to an ocean rescue at C-Street. Officers responded and assisted VFD & State Parks. The patient sustained a fractured leg surfing.

Saturday
1-9

1:13pm, while on patrol in the Fireboat, received report of a disabled sailboat in the A-basin. Officers found the vessel and safely towed it back to its slip, VIM.

Sunday
1-10

12:08pm, dispatched to an Ocean Rescue at the Ventura Pier for a missing surfer. Officers responded in Rescue B-19 to assist searching for a diabetic patient who went surfing and was last seen four hours ago. After searching with multiple agencies, the patient was found safe, tired from surfing for four hours.

4:08pm, dispatched to an Ocean Rescue, individual threatening to jump off the end of the pier, refusing to leave. Officers responded in Rescue B-19 & RWC to assist VPD & State Parks with suicidal individual. Convinced him to not jump.

Monday
1-11

8:15am, observed and received reports of several Hazards to Navigation throughout the harbor probably from the heavy surge due to the large West swell event yesterday and last night. Docks were damaged in the keys also. Hazards found included trees, logs, dock floats and construction debris.

3:30pm, dispatched to an Ocean Rescue, kite surfer in distress upcoast of the Ventura Pier. Officers responded in Rescue B-19. The victim was found uninjured and was escort back to the beach.

1-13

7:15am, observed a large, deceased sea lion near the Surfers Knoll Groin. Due to the position, high tide and the weight of the animal, officers were unable to remove it. Local volunteer organization, CIMWI was contacted and advised.

Thursday
1-14

9:45am, received report of a vessel accident between to fishing seiners in the commercial docks. Officers responded in fireboat to investigate the report. After interviewing witnesses, minor damage was sustained, no injuries reported.

Friday
1-15

12:23am, received report of noise disturbance in the keys from kids on an electric boat. Officers responded and terminated the voyage due to no lifejackets

11:20am, while on patrol in Fireboat, contacted a 20ft MV in the sandtrap and advised of the shoaling and the danger of navigation in the area.

11:37pm, dispatched to a medical alarm in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded and found the patient who accidentally activated alarm.

1-16

1:20pm, received dispatch to ocean rescue, swimmer caught in a rip at the Greenock lane jetty. Officers responded and assisted State Parks with call.

10:23pm, received report of a vessel in distress outside the Harbor Entrance. After a search and assistance with the RP, it was determined that what the RP was observing was the #2 entrance navigation buoy and red light flashing.

1-17

3:55am, received a request for entrance conditions from Tow BoatUS, they are inbound towing a 30ft sailboat with a fouled prop. Officers passed conditions.

11:54am, observed a small vessel towing a disabled one. Officers on patrol in Rescue B-19 took the disabled vessel en tow at the Harbor Entrance to the L/R.

4:29pm, received report of fireworks at Harbor Cove near the mermaid statue. Officers responded, found a rap group filming a video and igniting fireworks. The video production was terminated and warnings for the fireworks given.

7:37pm, dispatched to an overdose in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded and assisted VFD/VPD/AMR with the patient who suffers from multiple aliments but at this time only having an argument with her children.

12-23

12:15pm, dispatched to a cardiac arrest in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded and found the patient deceased and beyond resuscitation.

5:33pm, received a report of an injured squirrel near the Harbor Town point. Officers were able to capture the animal and turn over to rescue volunteers.

Thursday
12-24

.3:30pm, dispatched to a fire alarm in the Harbor Storage facility. Officers responded and found an active fire in a few units, updating dispatch. Multiple agencies responded and were able to put out the fire and minimize damage.

Friday
12-25

4:21pm, dispatched to a water rescue, kite surfer in distress near the Ventura Pier. Officers responded in Rescue B-19 along with multiple other agencies. The victim was found as reported and assisted to the shore, no injuries reported.

12-27

2:25pm, received multi reports of a damaged dock in the keys. Officers responded, found the dock as reported. Relayed dock repair companies contact info. Harbor Patrol is not equipped to repair, construct or give advice on repairs.

Tuesday
12-29

12:15pm, received mayday call, small vessel disabled near the #4 buoy. Officers responded in Rescue B-19 and towed the vessel to the launch ramp.

9:30am, observed a life-sized blow-up doll adrift in the at the entrance to the keys. Officers responded, pulled the life-like doll onboard and disposed of it.

Thursday
12-31

10:00am, Due to the COVID-19 stay at home order, the General Manager has decided to close the Port District, Operations offices. Please call or email if you need to drop off payments or anything from the Port District till further notice.

7:15pm, received report of suspicious persons, skateboarders in the VHV boatyard prowling around a large yacht. Officers responded, found the juveniles as reported. The group removed from the yard, issued warnings for trespassing.

1-1-21

7:09am, dispatched to smoke seen near Spinnaker/Harbor. Officers responded and found a transient with a warming fire just off the road. Convinced the individual to extinguish the fire and to refrain from igniting fires in the future.

Saturday
1-2

11:38am, dispatched to a unconscious person in the VHV, near 1583 sector. Officers responded and assist VFD/AMR with a 103 y/o male who fainted and was confused what happened. The patient was transported to local hospital.

3:30pm, while on patrol in Rescue B-19, officers observed a kayaker near the end of the Ventura Pier displaying the international sign of distress (waving both arms) and investigated. The individual was exhausted and afraid to attempt heading to shore due to the large waves (10-12ft). The victim was taken aboard and to the harbor, transported to his vehicle near the pier. No injuries occurred.

11:04am, received a report of a seiner skiff operating more than 5mph in the mid area of the harbor. Officers responded but were unable to locate the operator

1:42pm, received a report of an injured sea bird near 1591 Spinnaker. Officers responded and were able to catch the bird and transferred to rescue volunteers.

5:03pm, received complaint of two children riding scooters in and out of Harbor Cove onto Spinnaker w/o supervision. Officers responded, found the pair, then found the parents and advised of the danger of both their actions.

 

Vol. 14, No. 07 – Dec 30, 2020 – Jan 12, 2021 – Harbor Patrol Blotter

Tuesday 12-08 1:44pm, dispatched to an ocean rescue at McGrath State Beach. Officers responded in Rescue B-19 and Rescue Watercraft. Two inexperienced surfers were unable to return to shore because of large surf. They were taken onboard RB19 and brought to the VPD longdock for medical evaluation by VFD/AMR.
Thursday 12-10 10:05am, received report of a PWC speeding in the harbor. Officers responded in RB19, found the perpetrator, issued warning and escorted back to his slip.
Saturday 12-12 8:05am, dispatched to a bicycle accident on Spinnaker Drive. Officers responded in vehicle and assisted AMR with the patient who suffered a fractured wrist from the accident. The 35 y/o patient was transported to local hospital.
Sunday 12-13 7:35pm, dispatched to a vegetation fire near Riverhaven encampment. Officers responded in rescue vehicle Harb-1 along with VFD units to investigate the report. No brush fire was discovered, but the natural gas burn-off Southeast of the Santa Clara bridge appeared to be misidentified as a fire.
Monday 12-14 3:00pm, observed a sailboat sailing outside the harbor in extremely hazardous seas. Monitored the vessels progress and eventually returned to the harbor.
Tues-15 10:47am, dispatched to a fall victim in the Marina Community.
Tuesday 12-15 10:47pm, received report of a car stopped and running on E-bound Spinnaker near Harbor blvd. Officers responded with VPD and found two young females unconscious in the running vehicle. The pair were assumed under the influence and the driver was arrested for DUI and the case is under investigation.
Wednes 12-16 7:52pm, dispatched to a structure fire near Plimsol Mart. Officers responded and were unable to locate building on fire, but found a small warming fire near the Riverhaven homeless encampment. VFD extinguished the fire.
Friday 12-18 11:15am, received report of a female screaming from the flybridge of her vessel. Officers responded and searched the area of VIM C-dock. After a brief investigation, the disturbing party finished screaming and returned into her boat.
Saturday 12-19 9:11am, received report of a disturbing party refusing to leave the lawn area of Harbor Cove Café that is closed due to Covid 19 restrictions. Officers responded and found the party had just left the area upon arrival.

10:45am, while on patrol in vehicle near Surfers Knoll, contacted by a beach patron inquiring if there were sand dunes in the area. Pointed to nearby dunes.

12:47pm, dispatched to a traffic accident at Spinnaker/Harbor. Officers responded and found two patients complaining of traumatic injuries. The patients were treated, and one transported to local hospital. Officers assisted VPD with traffic control while tow agencies worked to remove vehicles.

7:40pm, while docking fireboat observed a sailboat run aground in the stub channel at the end of the barranca. Officers responded and towed the vessel off the sandbar. No damage or injuries occurred during the grounding.

Monday 12-21 7:33am, dispatched to a diabetic emergency on an incoming vessel outside the harbor. The vessel returned to their slip and officers assisted VFD with the call.

 

Vol. 14, No. 06 – Dec 16 – Dec 29, 2020 – Harbor Patrol Blotter

11-25

12:05am, received report of a transient disturbing security at the VHV. Officers responded and found a barefoot male walking in circles near 1691 Spinnaker. Officers found a pair of abandoned shoes/socks and after a few attempts, were able to get the individual back on track with emergency blanket and shoes.

1:15pm, received a report of a vessel accident in VIM M-dock, collision with moored vessel. Officers responded in Fireboat to investigate and found the responsible party leaving the harbor. The skipper’s information was gathered and he was advised to contact the owner and the marina to ensure no damage occurred. The incident is under investigation.

9:02am, dispatched to an ocean rescue, kayakers in distress off Mussel Shoals. Officers responded in Fireboat 1 with multiple agencies to assist two kayakers to shore. No injuries were reported and officers retrieved kayak for victims.

Saturday
11-28

7:43am, received an inquiry about a sea lion off Harbor Cove beach that the RP felt was sick-and-or-injured. Officers monitored, nothing out of the ordinary was observed. Educated RP about behavior of sealions.

Sunday
11-29

12:12pm, while on patrol in the vehicle, contacted by a person walking their dog near the Santa Clara Rivermouth complaining about dogs off leash nearby. Issued warning for no dogs allowed in the area because of the bird sanctuary. State Parks/Harbor Patrol enforce no dogs allowed just South of Surfers Knoll.

11-30

9:03am, dispatched to an unconscious person in the Harbor Village. Officers responded with VFD/AMR to assist a 101 y/o male who fainted. He was treated and then transported to local hospital for further evaluation.

Tuesday
12-1

8:53am, received a request for a tow from a disabled 25ft sailboat. Advised if they could sail to harbor, patrol could provide a tow. The coast guard eventually towed the vessel to the harbor and accommodations were found for the vessel.

12-2

12:15pm, dispatched to technical rescue at oil platform 9 miles offshore. Officers responded in Rescue B-17 with multiple agencies to a patient who fell several stories into the water. The patient aspirated water and required resuscitation efforts. All attempts at revival were unfortunately unsuccessful.

Thursday
12-3

5:41pm, received a report of an injured cormorant near the Harbortown point. Officers responded, captured the bird for rescue volunteers.

Friday
12-4

2:41pm, dispatched to an ocean rescue off Greenock lane. Officers responded in Fireboat with multiple agencies assisting with swimmers caught in ripcurrent.

Sunday
12-6

11:08am, dispatched to a stroke patient in the Portside apartments. Officers responded with VFD/AMR and treated a 76 y/o female with altered mental state.

2:22pm, responding to a vessel aground near Mandalay powerplant by land and water. 5 POB were able to get to the beach and none sustained injures. Tow Boat US was able to get the hard aground vessel off the beach.

12-7

11:17am, dispatched to mobile home park, carport roof sustained major damage from wind. Officers responded and assisted VFD with dismantling the structure.

1:13pm, dispatched to mobile home park, portion of roof blown off.

9:30pm, while on patrol in Rescue B-17, observed 5 kayaks engaged in hoop netting in the South Jetty rip current. Issued safety warning for the hazard area.

Wednes
11-11

10:35am, during patrol, observed several unattended hoop nets in the sandtrap. Officers found the owners and issued warning for the violation.

Thursday
11-12

8:45am, while on patrol in Rescue B-17, officers observed then pulled trash that had come from the barranca. Usually trash and other debris come down the barranca during the first rain of the season and any significant rain event. The amount of trash pulled from the water was enough to request a rollout dumpster.

Friday
11-13

8:25pm, while on patrol in Rescue B-17, observed several fishermen hoop netting in illegal areas, including the main channel. Warnings were issued along with safety inspections of vessels. Instructions for legal fishing areas were given

1:03pm, while on patrol in the truck, contacted by an individual who had a dead battery. Officers were able to successfully jumpstart the vehicle. .

6:15pm, received a report of a female transient setting up camp in the restrooms. Officers responded, assisted Dockmaster with removing belongings and transient

7:50pm, contacting an RV at the launch ramp, a habitual camper there and warning that there is no overnight camping at the launch ramp.

Monday
11-16

12:33pm, while preparing weather observations for NWS, observed 94-degree heat reading in the operations center. 10 mins later after the East wind switched, a 14-degree switch in temperature occurred.

 

Tuesday
11-17

10:50am, dispatched to check the wellness of an unconscious person near VIM. Officers responded with VPD/VFD and found the individual under the influence. Later in the day, the patient fell off his boat. He was rescued from the water and given to his girlfriend for supervision and welfare.

3:30pm, received report of a dead sea lion under a dock in VWM H-dock. Officers responded, found the sealion, removed it and towed it out to sea.

1:30pm, while on patrol in the Fireboat, officers were contacted by a Ventura Isle Marina tenant who was resuscitated by one of the officers on the boat. He conveyed his gratefulness for saving his life.

Monday
11-23

9:20am, while on patrol, observed a poly fishing line floating near the entrance. Officers attempted to pull the hazard to navigation, but it appeared attached to a commercial fishing trap. A commercial fisherman was located nearby, and he was able to assist and pull up the trap and return it to the owner.

Tuesday

3:30pm, Beach Hazard Assessment : observed 4-6ft steep angled Northwest swell with powerful longshore current moving downcoast.

6:45am, dispatched to a fire near Riverhaven. Officers assisted VFD with extinguishing the small warming fire. PD was questioning two persons nearby.

Friday
10-30

4:46pm, received a request to contact two dog owners with their dogs off leash near Surfers Knoll. Officers responded, found the pair as reported. Both were reminded of the leash law and requested to avoid one another to keep the peace.

Saturday
10-31

9:35am, observed a heavy fog bank move in. Officers headed out in the Fireboat to escort some out riggers and small boats back to the harbor that were observed before the bank came in. Two outriggers and a small boat were assisted.

12:15pm, received report of an agitated transient attempting to purchase ice cream at a village store. Officers responded and followed the individual to the fuel dock, he attempted to purchase items. He was escorted out of the Harbor.

Sunday
11-01

1:37pm, receiving multiple reports of aggressive and dangerous driving by participants of the presidential rally in VIM lot. Advised of limited resources to contain the large crowd and that Ventura PD has been advised and is responding.

2:35pm, while on patrol in Rescue B-17, observed a novice Standup paddler collide into Portside dock and fall into the water. Officers pulled the person out of the water and transported to big beach in the keys. No injuries were sustained

7:45am, received a report of a female transient sleeping near the boatyard and NPS offices. Officers responded and contacted the female. She believed the area was public land and that she could camp there. She was informed of the laws of special districts and given information for assistance to find housing.

5:39pm, dispatched to a boat fire in VWM B-dock. Officers responded in the fireboat to a 38ft M/V with an exterior fire that was being extinguished by boaters with extinguishers and dock fire hose. Harbor Patrol and VFD ensured that the fire was out and were assessing damage and the cause.

11-07

8:29am, received report of a dead body floating under the bridge in the barranca. Officers responded and found a realistic human sized companion doll in the area.

11:30am, while on patrol in the truck, contacted by concerned citizen that a sea bird, a grebe was entangled in seaweed near the South Jetty. Officers found the bird as reported, captured for sea bird rescue volunteer for rehabilitation.

1:54pm, dispatched to ocean rescue at the Ventura Pier. Officers responded and due to conditions had a delayed response. The victim was rescued by State Parks

4:15pm, dispatched to ocean rescue at Ventura Pier. The kite surfer was rescued by State Parks downcoast side of the Pier. Response delayed due to weather.

Sunday
11-08

11:06am, dispatched to a medical alarm in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded with AMR/VFD to the call. The 93 y/o patient was suffering from multiple aliments and was transported to local hospital for evaluation.

2:00pm, dispatched to a public service, canopy pinned onto roof in Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded and assisted VFD with securing it.

6:06pm, contacted 3 persons attempting to launch a small lake-type boat. They had just purchased it, wanted to try it out. Convinced them not in a gale at night.

Monday 10-12

8:45am, patrol officers briefing with Ventura City and County firefighters going through USLA lifeguard training at the Port District. Ventura Harbor Patrol Officers are trained as USLA rescue swimmers also & assisted with training.
Wed 10-14 7:15pm, while on patrol in Rescue B-17, officers contacted several vessels in violation of local ordinance and federal law. Two vessels voyage were terminated for multiple discrepancies and neither had running lights.

Friday 10-16

4:26pm, dispatched to an ocean rescue at Ventura Point. Officers responded in Rescue B-17 and found 3 surfers who paddled out to lobster trap buoys 300 yards offshore. No injuries or distress, just curious surfers looking at the buoys.

Saturday 10-17

7:21am, dispatched to an investigation for smoke in the RiverBottom. Officers responded and observed smoke South of Spinnaker Dr. A small warming fire was found and extinguished approximately 60 yards into the river bottom.

1:40pm, while on patrol in Rescue B-17, officers observed 4 victims caught in a rip current near San Pedro ln. A rescue swimmer was deployed assisting State Parks with the rescue. All victims were safely returned to the beach.

Monday 10-19

4:55pm, while on patrol in vehicle, observed a female in a golf cart near the launch ramp. She appeared upset. Offered to tow the golf cart to her unit.

Wednes 10-21

5:25pm, received a report of kayakers harassing sealions at VHV E-dock. Officers responded & found the perpetrators. Warnings were issued for violation

Thursday 10-22

10:36pm, received report of suspicious person pushing a shopping cart in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded with VPD, found the suspect who claimed he was selling Christmas lights. He was removed from community

Friday 10-23

5:45pm, received a report of an aggressive transient near the timeshare harassing people. Officers responded and found the individual. He was removed from the property and advised of the violations.

Saturday 10-24

8:00am, Harbor Patrol and Marine Safety Officers participating in Marine Firefighting class at the Port District. Officers practiced donning / duffing their turnouts, SCBA’s(breathing apparatus) and strategies putting out boat fires.

10:55am, received a report of dogs off leash near Santa Clara Rivermouth. Officers responded and located several dogs off leash. All violators were advised of the bird sanctuary and State Law prohibiting dogs in the area.

Sunday 10-25

3:30pm, while on patrol officers took beach hazard assessment: 1-2ft Northwest swell, NW wind 15 kts and choppy conditions. Very small crowd on harbor beaches. This is the first time in awhile conditions and crowds have declined.

7:15pm, while on patrol in Rescue B-17, officers contacted several vessels engaged in hoop netting near the breakwall. Warnings for multiple violations, mainly illegally placed nets issued to kayakers, small skiffs & larger vessels.

Monday 10-26

4:00am, officers contacted a transient with a surfboard near HC. The individual stated it had a “free” sign on it. The boards appearance gave credit to his story.

11:30am, observing strong NorthEast winds throughout the harbor.

4:30pm, dispatched to a vegetation fire near the Santa Clara Bridge. Officers responded with VFD to the call. Officers moved some looky-lou’s from area.

6:41pm, dispatched to unconscious person at local hotel. Officers responded with VFD/AMR to the call. The 48 year old was transported for low B/P.
