9:50pm, received a report of blinding lights from a fishing vessel at the fish off loading pier. Officers responded and found the light source and secured it.

6:30pm, the 2019 Parade of Lights begins with Tow Boat US leading.

8:00pm, fireworks launched from Harbor Cove beach for the parade.

12-14

7:00am, Beach Hazard Assessment: very large surf with rough conditions causing a heavy surge throughout the harbor. Waves are breaking across the entrance. Gale Warning was predicted/issued at 12:00 by NWS.

6:30pm, 2019 Parade of Lights beginning. Firework display occurred at 8:00pm as the winds finally calmed to levels safe for launching pyrotechnics.

10:20am, received a report of vessel accident that occurred last night. Several persons watching the parade observed a vessel collide with a moored vessel in Ventura Isle Marina.

10:45am, received report of commercial lobster traps in the entrance to the harbor. Officers responded and towed the pots out of the entrance and back to the lobster fishing grounds.

2:05pm, received a report of a hazard to navigation from a resident in the Ventura Keys. Officers explained the jurisdictional limitations of responses in the keys because it is the city of Ventura to the caller but advised they would investigate and assist if possible. They were able to safely remove the hazard.

10:30pm, observing strong gusty Santa Ana winds to 30kts.

12:15pm, dispatched to a commercial fire alarm at Ventura Storage Yard. Officers responded and assisted Ventura Fire with the call.

7:42pm, received a dispatch to a Traffic Collision, heavy rescue at Spinnaker/Harbor intersection. Officers responded and assisted Ventura Fire and Police with the call. Fortunately, no injuries were sustained in the incident.

11:20am, received a request for escort of the Santa Claus Standup paddle parade. Officers assisted with the paddle and detoured several who attempted to paddle outside the harbor due to the strong winds.

9:05pm, while on patrol in Rescue Boat 19, officers contacted a fisherman hoop netting in an illegal area near the breakwall of the harbor. A safety inspection was conducted, and the illegally placed hoop nets were moved to a legal area.

12-22

10:30am, received report of a large Fishing Seiner leaving the Harbor in a hurry causing a significant wake. Officers contacted the captain on VHF 16 and issued a stern warning. The captain has been reminded of his habitual offender status of local ordinance and received his final warning.

11:55am, received a report of a small sailboat in distress off Greenock Lane in Pierpont. Officers responded to the small sailboat in trouble. The three persons were taken onboard Rescue Boat 19 and the rudder-less vessel taken en tow. Strong southeast winds and the lack of a rudder kept the vessel from returning to the harbor.

3:51pm, dispatched to a fall victim at the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded and assisted an 81-year-old male who fell and injured his hip. He was assisted and transported by AMR medics to local hospital for further evaluation.

2:40am, dispatched to an incident at 1198 Navigator Drive. Officers responded and assisted VWM security with a medical with a local transient.

4:10pm, received a report of a vessel only secured with one line in the keys. Officers responded and secured the vessel to the dock, that was under repair.

11-27

9:00am, while manning the operations center, officers observed an unusually high tide of 7ft from the tide measurement stick at the long dock.

Thursday
11-28

12:20pm, dispatched to an unconscious patient in the Harbor Town resort. Officers responded and assisted a 97-year-old male with nausea and shortness of breath. The patient was further assisted by VFD/AMR.

4:50pm, National Weather Service contacted officers and advised of a severe storm cell headed towards Ventura Harbor. A large dark cloud/cell was observed just offshore of the harbor. The cell headed south making landfall over Channel Islands Harbor.

10:45am, received a report of a vessel taking on water, bilge pumps won’t stop pumping. Officers responded in Rescue Boat 17 and found the vessel in VIM. The constant water pumping was a water-cooled heater, not taking on water.

4:56pm, dispatched to a hang glider crash landed into the water. Officers responded in RescueBoat 19 with multiple agencies to investigate. City fire was able to ascertain that all the hang gilders have safely landed on the beach.

2:56am, dispatched to an unresponsive person in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded with VFD/AMR and found the patient unresponsive. Life saving efforts including CPR and AED were used to revive the patient. Unfortunately, the patient was pronounced dead by medics later.

2:00pm, received a report of a vessel taking on water in VWM A-dock. Officers responded in Rescue B-17, de-watered a 40ft motor vessel. The source of the leak was discovered and mitigated with assistance from a local diver.

7:10am, while on patrol officers observed large surf, 4-6ft with strong rip currents throughout harbor beaches. Water temp has fallen to 58 degrees.

7:57am, dispatched to a medical in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded and assisted Ventura Fire and AMR ambulance with the call.

11:00am, received report of a diesel spill from one of the fishing fleet.

5:20pm, while on patrol in Rescue Boat 17, officers observed several small vessels engaged in hoop netting at the breakwall. Safety inspections were conducted, and all the vessels were found in compliance with equipment.

7:30am, while on patrol in the vehicle, officers met with an organizer of the body surfing competition at South Beach. Organizers were concerned with the hazardous conditions and looking for safety advice.

7:20am, Beach Hazard Assessment: 6-8 ft NorthWest swell with enormous rip currents throughout Harbor Beaches. Officers meeting with body surfing organizers to assess conditions and raise safety concerns and mitigations.

12:00pm, Harbormaster and several officers participating in a “paddle-out” for Ventura City Firefighter at Harbor Cove. The fireboat was used in the ceremony

1:24pm, received a report of a boating accident at Ventura Isle Marina. Officers responded to investigate, minor damage was observed and the owners of the two involved vessels agreed to arrange for repairs amongst themselves.

10:00pm, while on patrol in Rescue Boat 19, officers contacted several fishermen hoop netting near the detached breakwall. They advised the fishermen of an incoming storm cell. Most advised they were heading in.

7:55am, while performing pre-operational checks, officers observed mud and debris flowing out of the Barranca in the keys.

3:15pm, observed an inexperienced body boarder without fins or a wetsuit in Small Craft Advisory conditions at South Beach. Officers made contact with the individual and removed for the dangerous situation.

7:00pm, officers on patrol in Rescue Boat 17 experiencing very rough conditions out side the breakwall. Made contact with a small skiff engaged in hoop netting, attempting to convince the skipper to call it a night, to no avail.

11:30am, officers in Rescue Boat 19 were removing the swim buoys from Harbor Cove for the winter.

2:10pm, received a report of a submerged skiff in the South Basin of the Harbor. Officers responded in Rescue Boat 19, found the hazard, dewatered and towed it back to the patrol dock. The skiff will be destroyed.

2:05pm, officers observed a vessel secured to the District longdock without permission. After a lengthy process, the vessel was removed and left the Harbor

Tuesday 11-12

2:40pm, monitored a May Day call on VHF 16 from a commercial fishing vessel taking on water in the fishing grounds. Officers responded in Fireboat 1 to assist. The vessel was found 8 miles offshore and mitigated the intrusion.

Friday 11-15

12:15pm, officers in RescueBoat 19 were conducting helicopter training with the U.S. coast guard a few miles off shore of the harbor.

4:45pm, while on patrol, officers contacted a kayaker fisherman in violation of several state and local laws. Warnings were issued and the fisherman decided it best to correct deficiencies and return at a later date to fish.

Saturday 11-16

17:30pm, while on patrol, officers received a request to obtain a “responsible driver permit” for a vehicle left in the Harbor Village parking lot. Officers were able to obtain one and place it on the vehicle. They notified Courtesy Patrol too.

Sunday 11-17

12:36pm, while on patrol in RescueBoat 17, observed the wind switched to West from East and a mother and daughter on a StandUp Paddleboard just off Marina Park were beset by it. The pair were able to exit onto the rip rap after being caught in the wind switch. Officers were able to assist with transporting the SUP board to the Marina Park city dock so they could retrieve it.

Monday 11-18

8:00am, received a report of an injured sea bird near the South Jetty. Officers responded, found the bird but were unable to capture it for rescue personnel.

7:40pm, dispatched to a brush fire near the Olivas Links golf course. Officers responded and assisted Ventura Fire with locating the fire.

Tuesday 11-19

6:12am, dispatched to an overdose near the Riverhaven encampment off of Harbor Blvd. Officers responded and attempted to locate the patient. After an extensive search, officers were unable to locate the patient.

8:40am, received a report of a disabled commercial lobster fishing vessel outside the harbor. Officers responded in RescueBoat 17, found the vessel and took them en tow back to their slip for repairs.

Wednes 11-20 7:41am, while on patrol in the vehicle, officers observed that the Santa Clara Rivermouth has breached. The river flow is heavy and affecting the ocean.

Thursday 11-21

12:21pm, received a report of petroleum sheen near VIM C-dock. Officers investigated in RescueBoat 19. After a brief investigation, officers were able to trace the source to a commercial fishing vessel discharging polluted water. The pumping was stopped, and the incident is being investigated.

Friday 11-22

9:23pm, while on patrol in RescueBoat 19, officers observed a fisherman placing hoop nets in an illegal area of the breakwall. The hoop nets were removed and the individual issued warnings for the violation.

Sunday 11-24

9:31am, received a dispatch to an ocean rescue at the Santa Clara Rivermouth. Officers responded in RescueBoat 19 with multiple agencies. After a brief search, the patient was found unresponsive in the estuary by land units.

10:40am, received reports of an adrift skiff near the Mandalay power plant. Officers responded in Fireboat 1, found the skiff and towed it to the harbor. Unfortunately, the vessel belonged to the deceased person found in the estuary.

The incident is under investigation.

9:38pm, dispatched to a traffic collision at 1300 block of Spinnaker Drive. Officers responded with multiple units to the accident. The patient’s vehicle collided with median and rolled over blocking traffic. The patient suffered moderate injuries and was transported to local hospital for further evaluation.

Monday 11-25

4:00am, officers opening beach lot gates, overflow lot for film production company that will be filming today throughout the harbor.

12:10pm, dispatched to a medical, fall victim in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded and assisted AMR with the patient.

 

Vol. 13, No. 4 – Nov 20 – Dec 3, 2019 – Harbor Patrol Blotter

Wednes 10-23

9:10pm, received a dispatch to a person who jumped off the Ventura Pier. Officers responded in Rescue Boat 19 and assisted VFD with the call. The individual jumped, swam to shore and left the area.

Thursday 10-24

6:31am, received a report of a commercial fishing vessel listing heavily to port at the Fish off-loading pier. Officers responded and found the vessel as reported. Crew members were alerted, untied the vessel and resolved the issue

Friday 10-25

8:33am, dispatched to a brush fire at Olivas / Harbor Blvd. Officers responded and assisted VFD with three small fires near Riverhaven.

Saturday 10-26

7:15pm, received a report of a sailboat adrift near the #2 entrance buoy. Officers responded in Rescue boat 17, found the vessel and towed it to its slip.

Sunday 10-27

12:45pm, received a report of a disabled vessel in the keys. Officers responding in Rescue boat 19 to assist. The vessel was located, then towed to their slip in the keys, safely.

3:01pm, received a report that a commercial fishing vessel was aground in its slip near Island Packers. Officers responded and found the vessel as reported. Eventually, when the tide rose, the vessel was moved to a slip with more depth

Tuesday 10-29

1:55am, received a report of a boat fire, officers responded in Fireboat and found a 50ft vessel fully involved with fire at Ventura West Marina. Ventura fire responded and assisted with the fire-fight and moving adjacent vessels in danger of igniting. The vessel was eventually dewatered and towed to the boat yard for further investigation and because it was slowly sinking.

Wednes 10-30

4:49am, dispatched to a sick person at Riverhaven camp. Officers responded and assisted the patient with a transport to Harbor blvd to AMR ambulance. The patient was transported to local hospital for further evaluation

Friday 11-1

9:03am, while conducting pre-operations checks, officers observed heavy ash falling from the Maria Fire. All of the vehicles and vessels were washed thoroughly with high pressure washer. Officers also used N95 masks.

Saturday 11-2

5:35am, dispatched to an assault victim at the Holiday Inn express. Officers responded and assisted VFD/AMR with a patient suffering from pepper spray.

8:28pm, dispatched to a fire Harbor Blvd/Olivas Park dr. Officers responded and assisted VFD with extinguishing a small campfire.

Friday 11-8

4:10am, while manning the operations center, officers felt a series of earthquakes ranging from 3.2 to 3.6 magnitude. No damage reported.

Saturday 11-9

8:31am, officers en route to assist The Surfrider Foundation with their beach clean up date at Harbor Beaches. Officers assisted with removing bags.

Sunday 11-10

9:41am, received a report of a vessel disabled outside the harbor. Officers responded in RescueBoat 19 but were unable to locate the vessel. Quick thinking officers contacted CI Harbor Patrol and advised they might have a disabled vessel outside their harbor. CI patrol located the vessel and assisted.

7:05pm, received a complaint about an incident with a transient. The individual wanted to know how to handle encounters with transients in the future. Advised to get good descriptions of persons and illegal activities then contact Ventura PD either by phone or online report. If it is an emergency call 911.

Monday 11-11

4:28pm, dispatched to a TC, vehicle into pole on Spinnaker near VIM. Officers responded, assisted VPD, VFD, AMR with the accident. The patient was ok.

 

Vol. 13, No. 3 – Nov 6 – Nov 19, 2019 – Harbor Patrol Blotter

Tuesday 10-15

12:15pm, contacted an individual in a lake-type boat with a few dogs on the bow of the boat in violation of speed ordinance and issued a warning.

10:03pm, while on patrol in Boat 17, officers found several fishermen on small boats hoop netting near the break-wall in violations of local, state and federal laws. Warnings were issued for illegal hoop placement, improper lights and numerous state fishing laws.

Wednes 10-16

4:35pm, received a report of a water rescue, kite surfer in distress. Officers responded in Rescue Boat 19 to assist. A search of the area around the pier but officers were unable to local any kite surfers in distress.

Thursday 10-17

8:50am, while manning the operations center, the commercial fishing vessel “Angels Gate” was observed in violation of harbor speed ordinance. Officers responded in Fireboat 1 to contact and issued a written warning for speed violation and not monitoring VHF 16 while underway in a commercial vessel.

7:56pm, dispatched to an overdose at VIM D-dock. Officers responded and assisted VFD/AMR with the call. The patient was treated and transported.

Friday 10-18

10:49am, received a report an illegally placed hoop net in the main channel of the harbor utilizing a plastic water bottle as the buoy. Officers found the illegal hoop net and impounded it. Hoop nets are not allowed in the harbor.

9:20pm, while on patrol in Rescue Boat 17, officers found two fishermen hoop netting in restricted area near the harbor entrance. Verbal warnings and explanations of rules and regulations for hoop netting and safety requirements.

Saturday 10-19

11:05am, while on patrol in Rescue Boat 19, officers observed a 22ft sailboat having difficulty restarting his outboard engine. The disabled sailboat was taken in a side tow back to its slip safely.

11:33am, while on patrol in vehicle observed several beginning surfers in the South Jetty rip current. Eventually moved the group to safer water and informed the group about rip currents and how to get out when caught in one.

5:22pm, dispatched to a fall victim at Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded and assisted VFD/AMR with the patient, lift assist.

Sunday 10-20

10:00am, while updating weather ob’s, observed : Small Craft Advisory in effect until 9pm this evening, posted by the National Weather Service.

12:15pm, received a request for location of the boat pump-out station. Officers ascertained where the caller was and advised the skipper to use the nearest one at the end of Ventura Harbor Village I-dock.

Monday 10-21

11:55am, while washing the boats, contacted by Morro Bay harbor patrol from their vessel. Morro Bay harbor patrol was conducting annual servicing of their vessel at the Ventura Boat yard.

7:30pm, while on patrol in Rescue Boat 19, officers came across several small vessel engaged in hoop netting near the break-wall. Violations of local, state and federal laws, including improper lights and illegal placement of hoop nets were observed and warnings, written or verbal were issued.

Vol. 13, No. 2 – Oct 23 – Nov 5, 2019 – Harbor Patrol Blotter

Wednes 10-02

12:45pm, received a request for traffic control from the construction company building the “Port-side” docks. Officers responded in Rescue Boat 17 to assist with boating traffic control for the barge transporting the crane.

Friday 10-04

3:25pm, received a report of a transient throwing rocks at the Holiday Inn Express. Officers responded but were unable to find the individual described.

Saturday 10-05

5:20pm, received a report of a whale near the School House Jetty in Pierpont. Officers responded and found what appeared to be a small grey whale. A mammal rescue volunteer was contacted and would investigate.

9:03pm, contacted by a diver who was threatened by 2 fisherman hoop netting in the sandtrap area. Officers contacted the 2 and advised of the seriousness of such behavior towards the diver. The situation was resolved without incident.

Tuesday 10-08 11:55am, dispatched to a Hazardous Condition, gas leak at the Ventura Water Treatment plant. Officers responded and assisted VFD with the call. A gas leak was discovered but had not ignited.

Thursday 10-10

8:10am, received a report of a vessel accident between two large commercial vessels. Officers responded and investigated the incident which occurred at the VHV fuel dock. Minor damage to both vessels was observed and reported.

Friday 10-11

12:47am, dispatched to a fall victim at VWM C-dock. Officers responded and found a patient with a serious head wound. He was treated and transported to local hospital by American Medical response ambulance.

6:15am, observed a working brush fire in the river bottom near the golf course. VFD and VCFD were fighting the brush fire. East Winds gusting to 30kts.

Saturday 10-12

3:30am, contacted an individual hoop netting in the swimming area of Harbor Cove. Officers issued warning for the violation; no hoop nets set in the harbor.

10:25pm, while on patrol in Rescue Boat 17 officers observed a flare ignited towards Ventura West Marina. After a search no vessel in distress was located.

Sunday 10-13

4:05pm, observed a large fishing seiner outbound in the turning basin in violation of 302(b) VHO speed. Officers were able to contact the captain via VHF radio and issue warning and gain compliance.

6:03pm, throughout the day officers observed several different types of recreation throughout the harbor most likely due to the favorable weather experienced all day. Kayakers, small and large fishing vessels, standup paddlers and sailboats even though there was no wind enjoyed the boating day.

8:05pm, while on patrol officers enforced hoop netting regulations around the breakwall for several different violations, including insufficient lights, illegal placement of hoop nets and various safety violations.

Monday 10-14

7:58am, dispatched to a medical: chest pain in the parking lot of Plimsol mart. Officers responded and assisted VFD/AMR. The patient was treated and transported to local hospital for further evaluation by AMR ambulance.

10:50pm, while on patrol, officers observed a suspicious person walking with a fishing pole and tackle in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers contacted the individual and issued warning for trespassing and illegal fishing.

 

Vol. 13, No. 1 – Oct 9 – Oct 22, 2019 – Harbor Patrol Blotter

9-16

1:11pm, observed half of the Harbor experiencing a power outage. Officers connected the district generator and check on persons in the Ventura Marina Community with oxygen generators, manager reporting they are all ok.

Tuesday
9-17

5:48pm, received report of a kayak taking on water from the operator. Rescue Boat 17 was in the area and took the operator on board and dewatered the boat.

Wednesday
9-18

7:37pm, received a dispatch to a boat fire near La Conchita. Officers responded with VFD in FireBoat 1. The boat fire turned out to be debris from a nearby party, likely a bonfire on the beach that somehow drifted out.

Friday
9-20

8:57am, dispatched to a traffic accident, heavy on Harbor Blvd. Officers responded and assisted VFD, AMR and VPD with the accident. Four patients were assisted and transported to local hospital for major injuries. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage.

9-21

7:30am, Officers assisting several different agencies with setting up for State-wide “Coastal Clean up day,” and also “Best Day Foundation Event.”

Monday
9-23

7:10pm, while on patrol in Harbor 1, officers observed several Recreational Vehicles parked in Harbor Cove beach parking lot. Officers were enforcing Port District and City ordinance forbidding parking for over-sized vehicles in these areas and on city streets.

2:55am, while on patrol in vehicle H-1 officers observed a skunk walking across the 1691 Spinnaker area, then onto the beach and into the South Jetty.(a future politician)

6:00am, 2019/2020 Lobster Season officially open, a few vessels were engaged in hoop netting behind the breakwall, too rough outside the harbor.

6:50pm, while on patrol in Rescue Boat 17, officers observed a fisherman illegally place his hoop nets in the main channel of the harbor. The fisherman was advised of the violation and moved his nets to a legal area.

10:24pm, received a report of a disabled 15ft skiff near the breakwall. Officers responded in Rescue Boat 17 and towed the vessel to the L/R.

Sunday
9-29

12:45pm, received a request for a tow of a disabled 25ft motor vessel being towed by a good Samaritan electric boat in the A-Basin of the Harbor. Officers responded and assisted the vessel to their slip in VIM. Due to the strong winds, a few tenants assisted with lines and helping secure the vessel.

5:32pm, received a report of a disabled electric boat adrift near the Stub Channel. Officers responded and towed the vessel to the rental docks.

6:30pm, while on patrol in Rescue Boat 19, received a report of a diesel sheen in the middle finger of the Ventura Keys. Officers responded and found a light sheen that was un-retrievable and were unable to locate a source.

9:23pm, received a request for a tow from another disabled “lake-type” vessel in the sandtrap. Officers responded and towed the vessel to the L/R safely.

7:15pm, while on patrol and monitoring lobster fishing activities near the breakwall, officers contacted several operators of small vessels for various violations including improper lights displayed, illegally placed hoop nets, incomplete report cards, no lifejackets, no flares and no registration onboard.

Generally, operators are warned/educated of the regulations, but repeat or individuals who do not correct violations will be cited.

 

Vol. 12, No. 26 – Sept 25 – Oct 8, 2019 – Harbor Patrol Blotter

9-2
3:14am, monitored mayday call for a boat fire from the dive vessel Conception on VHF 16 to the U.S. coast guard. Officers prepared the fireboat and responded with multiple agencies. The incident is under investigation.

5:51pm, while on foot patrol, officers were contacted by a transient claiming he was assaulted. After an investigation it was determined the individual was the disturbing party and was removed from the harbor by VPD for trespassing.

2:55am, received a report of a transient disturbing a female sitting outside the Holiday Inn express. Officers responded and searched but were UTL.

7:50am, received a report of a transient disturbing people and fitting the description of the earlier person of interest. Officers found the individual and issued warnings for his various violations. He moved along. Later in the day Ventura PD was looking for the same individual performing same stunts.

11:40am, officers contacting several kayakers and Standup Paddle Boarders and issuing warnings for insufficient safety equipment. Also with educational warnings, issuing loaner lifejackets. Every person aboard a vessel needs a PFD

5:06pm, received a report of a stingray strike at Harbor Cove. Officers responded and assisted State Parks with the patient.

5:40pm, received a report of a male fainting in the parking lot near Island Packers building. Officers attempting to assist the patient, but he refused any medical attention.

Tuesday
9-10
10:45pm, while on patrol, officers observed/contacted three vehicles parked in the district lot for illegal camping. The three individuals were issued warnings and their vehicles removed from the parking lot.
Wednesday

8:31pm, dispatched to a traffic collision at 1510 Anchors Way dr. Officers responded and assisted a female who reported suffering a reaction to medication and was involved in an accident with several vehicles.

1:57pm, received a dispatch to a fall victim at 1583 Spinnaker Dr. Officers responded and assisted an elderly male with a head injury. The patient was transported to local hospital for further evaluation by AMR medics.

3:05pm, observing the US coast guard buoy tender “George Cobb” conducting routine maintenance of navigation buoy #4 outside the harbor entrance.

2:56pm, while on patrol in H-1, dispatched to a traumatic injury near Riverhaven encampment. Officers responded and assisted VFD/AMR with a transient male who sustained a major head injury, but unable to remember how it happened. The patient was transported to Harbor Blvd by fellow transients in a makeshift gurney, treated there then transported by AMR to hospital.

7:25pm, dispatched to a person not breathing at VWM. Officers responded with VFD/AMR and found the patient deceased. VPD took over the incident.

7:15pm, observing a full moon rising.

7:40pm, while on patrol outside the harbor in Boat 17, officers engaged a drone flying from Harbor Cove, had to take evasive action to avoid a collision. The drone disappeared and officers were unable to locate the operator. It is illegal to operate drones in and around the harbor without a permit.

6:30am, monitored radio traffic of an abandoned panga aground at Deer Creek beach near the Ventura County Line.

8:45am, dispatched to a sick 90-year-old female in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded and assisted VFD/AMR with patient complaining of right foot pain from gout. Patient self-transported to hospital.

1:15pm, received a dispatch to a fall victim in the Ventura Marina community. Officers responded, assisted VFD/AMR; the patient suffered major injuries.

5:20pm, officers assisted State Parks in detaining a large vessel reported operating in violation of speeding near swimmers and no registration aboard.

Monday 8-19

11:23pm, while on patrol officers observed a transient with various items and a small inflatable. Contacted the individual and he advised he was planning to paddle up the coast. Officers attempted to dissuade the boater from his journey due to the time of night and the bad weather. After a futile attempt the paddler terminated his voyage.

5:50pm, observed a Small Craft Advisory posted by National Weather Service

Wednes 8-21

9:28am, dispatched to a gunshot victim in the 2700 block of SeaHorse. Officers responded and assisted Ventura Fire / AMR with the call.

3:53pm, received a report of a stingray strike at tower 3, Harbor Cove. Officers responded and assisted State Parks with the call. The wound was treated with hot water and the patient was later released at the scene.

9:45pm, dispatched to an unconscious person at the Comedy Club in the village. Officers responded and assisted VFD/AMR with the call. The patient was treated and transported to local hospital for further evaluation. There was fear that he could die laughing.

Thursday 8-22

1:00pm, received a report of a motor vessel in the surfline near the Santa Clara Rivermouth. Officers responded in Rescue Boat 19 and contacted the skipper and moved the vessel out of the surfline and into safer water, just before a set of waves threatened to swamp and ground the vessel.

Friday 8-23

11:34am, received a report of a stingray strike at tower 3, Harbor Cove from State Parks. Officers responded and assisted lifeguards with the patient. Hot water was applied to the wound and the patient was released after treatment.

Saturday 8-24

11:31am, received a report of a person-in-the-water near the breakwall. Officers responded in Rescue Boat 19 and discovered a kayaker in the water and his kayak taking on water. Officers took the person on board and dewatered the kayak. The victim was taken to his slip in the harbor.

Friday 8-30

9:10am, officers proctoring a qualifying 500-meter swim for Ventura Fire water rescue swimmers in the Pierpont Basin swim course.

5:50pm, received report of an ocean rescue, kite surfer in distress near the Ventura Pier. Officers responded in Rescue Boat 19 and assisted with the call.

Saturday 8-31

1:43pm, dispatched to two separate stingray strikes at Harbor Cove. Officers responded with hot water to assist State Parks lifeguards with the medical(s). The two patients, 11-year-old male and a 35-year-old female, were treated at the scene and released after hot water treatment was performed.

5:40pm, received a report of a transient disturbing customers in the Harbor Village. Officers responded and contacted the male who was pan handling with his guitar. He was informed of the ordinance violation and moved along.

Sunday 9-1

8:30am, received a report of a stingray strike at Harbor Cove from an open water swimming group. The patient self-treated and was being self-transported

12:53pm, received report of tar balls on the beach and in the water near Surfers Knoll. Officers responded with State Parks and investigated the report. The water was brownish from a light red tide event and there were no more than normal tar accumulations on the beach.

2:20pm, received report of a disabled sailboat in the South Basin. Officers responded, found the sailboat, took them into a short tow holding them on station and transferred the tow to Towboat US to complete.

Tuesday 8-06

4:15pm, received a report of sailing vessel securing without permission at VWM G-dock. Officers responded and found a travelling/transient vessel looking for the courtesy Ventura Yacht Club reciprocity dock. Officers contacted the VYC and escorted the vessel to the dock.

Wednes 8-07

10:50am, received dispatch to a stingray strike at Harbor Cove. Officers responded with hot water to treat the injury. A 10-year-old female was transported by her parents to local hospital for further evaluation.
Saturday 8-10 11:35am, received a report of a stingray strike at Harbor Cove from State Parks. Officers responded with hot water, assisted lifeguards with the patient.
Sunday 8-11 12:30pm, patrol vehicles observing several religious groups conducting ceremonies, baptisms at Harbor Cove and near Marina Park. Also large crowds at the harbor beaches, most likely due to the sun coming out.

Tuesday 8-13

4:08pm, while on patrol officers encountered a truck with a trailer in the turnaround near the district. A verbal warning was issued, and the operator asked to move the vehicle because it is blocking the roadway.

Wednes 8-14

3:45am, while on patrol, officers startled a man in dark clothing lurking around vehicles. The subject fled the scene and a gas can and hose were found.

 

Thursday 8-15

7:10am, while opening Surfers Knoll restrooms, officers observed a person lying awkwardly on the sand. It was soon discovered that the patient was not breathing. Fire dispatch was notified, and officers performed life-saving procedures. The patient was eventually pronounced dead on scene.

 

10:41am, received a dispatch to a medical at Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded and assisted VFD/AMR with the call. The patient had fallen and HP officers and VFD picked him up and returned him to his chair.

Friday
8-16

2:15pm, observed the “John Wayne Cancer Foundation” paddle board being paddled up coast to the Ventura Pier. The board is paddled and handed off from each lifeguard agency to raise money for cancer research at City of Hope.

7:03pm, dispatched to a seabird in distress at Marina Park. Officers responded with VFD and were able to free the bird that was tangled in line attached to the mast of the Marina Park boat playground.

Saturday 8-17

9:10am, received dispatch to an eye injury near the Santa Clara bridge. Officers responded and found the patient, a local transient and assisted VFD/AMR with the patient. He was treated and released.

 

1:50pm, received a report of a stingray strike at Harbor Cove. Officers responded with hot water and assisted State Parks with the patient.

 

9:30pm, received a report of three males fishing at the Ventura Marina Community lake. Officers responded and searched the area but were unable to locate the trespassing fisherman. It is illegal to fish there.

Sunday 8-18

2:04am, dispatched to a brush fire near Santa Clara River mouth. Officers responded with multiple fire agencies to the fire. For two hours officers assisted Ventura FD with transporting firefighters to the blaze and pulling hose.

12:30pm, received a report of a vessel accident near VIM I-dock. Officers responded to investigate the incident. A vessel reportedly collided with a fixed object causing some damage. No injuries were reported.

 

5:20pm, dispatched to a fall patient in the Harbor Village. Officers responded and assisted VFD/AMR with the patient. A 50-year-old female fell down a stair and injured her arm. She was treated and transported to local hospital.
