Vol. 17, No. 20 – June 26 – July 9, 2024 – Harbor Patrol Blotter

Wednesday 6/12

 1:45pm, dispatched to a boat fire in the Ventura Boatyard. Officers responded in the Fireboat, fortunately it was a false alarm, cancelled en route.

6:28pm, dispatched to a fall victim in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded with VFD / AMR to assist the patient with treatment & assessment.

9:23pm, dispatched to a possible pier jumper at Ventura Pier. Officers responded in Fireboat but the subject was apprehended by police at end of pier.

Thursday 6/13

 10:00am, Ventura City and Ventura County firefighters utilizing Ventura Port District facilities for Water Rescue watercraft training. Officers participating.

4:15pm, received report of a dog locked in a vehicle at launch ramp. Officers responded, found the vehicle, the dog was inside but the owner was also inside.

5:09pm, dispatched to Ocean Rescue, surfer in distress at South Jetty. Officers responded in Fireboat to assist State Parks. Patient was safely brought to shore.

7:13pm, received a call from a disabled electric boat in the keys by big beach. Officers responding in Fireboat to assist. Towed vessel to their dock in the keys.

Friday 6/14

 6:15am, observed NWS issued a Small Craft Advisory, raised warning pennant.

12:35pm, received report of a child locked in a vehicle in the village. Officers responded and found Ventura PD on scene, they were handling the call.

Saturday 6/15

 6:15am, observed NWS issued Gale Warning, raised warning pennants.

6:42am, received request for water quality results. Looked up testing on Ventura County website. Only Rincon and La Conchita tested below threshold.

9:30am, while on patrol in Rescue Boat 19, observed individuals bowriding on a small vessel in the South Basin of Harbor, issued warning to the skipper.

1:15pm, received report of a dog locked in a vehicle in the village. Officers investigated, found the vehicle with windows down and dog not in distress.

Sunday 6/16

 6:19am, observed weather service issued a Gale Warning, raised pennants.

10:35am, dispatched to a water rescue at the South Jetty, 4 swimmers caught in a rip current. Officers responded in Fireboat and Rescue Watercraft to assist victims. The RWC was able to pull three of the victims onto the ski and sled and transport them safely to the beach. 4th victim climbed out of the water onto the jetty. VFD / State Parks, were able to assess patients on the beach.

7:13pm, received report of a fuel sheen near VWM B-dock. Officers responded in Rescue Boat19 to investigate. Upon arriving on scene, a rainbow sheen was found in the area report, it was breaking up, unretrievable. No source found.

Monday 6/17

 6:20am, once again, NWS issued Gale warning for NW winds gusting to 35kts in the Western Portion of the Santa Barbara Channel. Pennants raised.

7:45pm, dispatched to an Ocean Rescue, surfer in distress in front of State Parks HQ. Officers responded in Fireboat to assist, victim made it to shore safely.

Tuesday 6/18

 6:05am, finally, NWS took down Wind Advisories for calmer conditions.

5:30pm, while on patrol, observed a broken water pipe near the entrance to the Port District parking lot. Officers were able to find the turn off valve, closing it.

Vol. 17, No. 19 – June 12 – June 25, 2024 – Harbor Patrol Blotter

Monday 5/27 7:35am, while on patrol in truck, observed a transient in a parking stall under a tarp at the Launch Ramp.  Checked the wellness, advised not safe area to camp.

12:34pm, observed a small vessel in violation of speed/wake ordinance.  Officers stopped the inflatable, issued warning, conducted a safety inspection.

6:32pm, received report of a sailboat in distress in the sandtrap.  Officers responded in the Fireboat, found the vessel not in distress, escorted back to L/R.
Tuesday 5/28 5:30am, observed NWS issued Small Craft Advisory, raised warning pennant.

6:50am, while on patrol in vehicle, officers removed barricades and caution tape that blocked a smoldering bon fire from last night at Surfer Knoll area.

5:27pm, dispatched to abdominal pain in the Holiday Inn express parking lot.  Officers responded with AMR/VFD to assist the patient.

6:18pm, dispatched to an unconscious person in a vehicle at 1583 Spinnaker Dr.  Officers responded with VFD/AMR to assist the patient.
Wednes 5/29 3:19am, received request for a jumpstart, officers were able to start the vehicle.

5:30am, observed NWS issued Small Craft Advisory, raised warning pennant.

7:23pm, dispatched to a traffic collision at Schooner and Harbor.  Officers responded with VFD/VPD and staged because the involved parties were fighting.  After PD stopped the fight, patrol was cancelled no injuries.
Thursday 5/30 7:50am, while performing maintenance on Rescue Boat 19, the port shaft seal tore open, the vessel was towed to Ventura Boatyard for emergency haul-out.

11:33pm, contacted a transient at the launch ramp restrooms complaining of illness.  The individual eventually refused treatment, moved along.
Friday 5/31 1:54pm, officers working with US coast guard on a 24ft motor vessel with multiple issues and suspicious activity.  Eventually the vessel returned to its slip.

8:47pm, dispatched to a hazardous condition in the Ventura Marina Community.  Officers responded with VFD to an exposure of pepper spray.  Apparently a cat entered the residence and the owner pepper sprayed the intruder.

Tuesday, 5/14
12:26pm – Briefing with Fish & Wildlife officers regarding their vessel at the
patrol dock. The vessel is taking on water, working to mitigate the source.

Wednesday, 5/15
3:27pm – Officers checking in on Rescue Boat 19 at the Ventura Boatyard. The
vessel was taken out of service because of a strong odor of gasoline in the bilges.
A new gas tank was recently put in and mechanics were inspecting the work.

Thursday, 5/16
4:00pm- Dispatched to an Ocean Rescue, a kite surfer in distress at Surfers point.
Officers responded in the Fireboat to the call. Once on scene, officers assisted
two State Parks Lifeguards with transporting the victim to the shore.

4:55pm – Picked up Rescue Boat 19 at the boatyard. While conducting a sea trial
the engines stalled. Officers responded in the Fireboat to tow the vessel at the
Harbor Entrance, but the problem was corrected, and the vessel continued.

9:00pm – City and Ventura Pure Water construction will do major work at the
intersection of Schooner/Anchors Way to repair a broken water main.

11:55pm – While on patrol in the truck, observed a 15ft broken pier pilling that
was erected near the shore at Harbor Cove. Officers removed the hazard.

Friday, 5/17
8:00am – Observed a brown Suburban that normally parks in Surfers Knoll and is
the cause of daily complaints, driving erratically and dangerously on Spinnaker
Drive. Officers relayed information to Ventura PD dispatch.

2:58pm – Dispatched to an assault at Anchors Way/Schooner intersection.
Officers responded with VPD, patient refused assistance, VPD took over call.

5:26pm – Dispatched to chest pain in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers
responded with VFD/AMR to assist the patient with assessment.

Saturday, 5/18
7:46am – Dispatched to difficulty breathing at the Harbortown timeshare.
Officers responded on foot to the room. Treatment was provided to the patient.

8:33am – Officers creating temporary launch ramp parking permits for the United
States coast guard auxiliary to hand out to skippers willing to let them conduct
an informational safety inspection of their vessel before they depart.

9:52am – Dispatched to cardiac arrest initially in the water near VWM. Officers
responded in the truck and Fireboat. After arriving on scene, the victim had
fallen off their boat last night, and unfortunately resuscitation was not possible.

1:51pm – Observed a “boat club” vessel speeding/waking in the main channel of
the harbor. Contacted via VHF16, gained compliance for the violation.

2:05pm – Received request for a tow from a disabled motor vessel near the #4
buoy outside the harbor. Officers responded in Rescue B19, passed tow line and
towed the vessel into the harbor, where TowBoat US took over in a side-tie.

Sunday, 5/19
8:10am – Received request to open gate at end of Spinnaker for canoe club.

1:21pm -Dispatched to an unconscious person in the Ventura Marina
Community. Officers responded with VFD/AMR to assist with the patient.

Monday, 5/20
7:00am – Contracted company conducting sand removal at Harbor Cove after
Coastal Commission permit approved for the work.

Vol. 17, No. 17 – May 15 – May 28, 2024 – Harbor Patrol Blotter

Wednesday 4/24 6:50am, officers assisting Ventura PD with cleanup and removal of transient items: tents/popups/everything-under-the-sun in the Arundo near Surfers Knoll. 
Thursday 4/25 9:50am, observed a section of dock adrift near the breakwall. Determined it came from the dock renovation at Ventura Yacht Club, workers retrieved it.

3:30pm, received report of Island Packers vessel “Island Adventure” inbound disabled with one engine. Officers aboard Fireboat 1 provided escort to slip.    
Friday 4/26 5:30am, observed Gale Warning issued by NWS, raised warning pennants.

11:00am, officers on patrol assisted CIMWI with capturing an injured pelican near the Santa Clara Rivermouth.  The bird was taken to be rehabilitated.

1:20pm, received a severe weather warning call from NWS.  They advised Gale force winds near the Harbor Entrance of gusts at 45 knots, wind waves 8 feet.

2:00pm, officers giving a presentation of Patrol Vessels and Vehicle to a large group of children from the Boys and Girls club.
Saturday 4/27 1:25am, dispatched to a fall patient at Ventura Marina Community.  Officers responded with AMR/VFD to assist with the patient.

6:40am, observed NWS issued a Gale Warning, raised warning pennants.

12:25pm, received a report of a man with a gun by the Harbor Mart in the Portside complex.  Officers contacted VPD and advised, they were UTL.

Wednes 4/10

 3:16pm, received request for information about the research vessel “Danny C” working on pipelines near the Patrol Dock. Officers advised they were diving on pipelines running from Marina Park to the Port District parking lot.

Thursday 4/11

 2:30pm, while on patrol in the Fireboat, officers checking on a commercial vessel taking on water in the past during rain events. No issues found.

Friday 4/12

 11:01am, officers aboard Fireboat conducting traffic control for Manson Construction removing equipment from the main channel.

11:33am, received report of a small vessel near the Ventura Pier with no POB’s. Lifeguards observed someone paddle away from the vessel. Officers responded, found the vessel anchored and the surfer returned during investigation.

Saturday 4/13

 2:50am, received report of a sealion pup on the promenade near the Greek restaurant. Advised to leave alone, officers will monitor, contact CIMWI.

7:15am, investigating sealion pup on promenade, contacted CIMWI (channel islands marine wildlife institute). Representative arrived, officers assisted with capturing and loading the mammal into the rescue crate and vehicle.

Sunday 4/14

 10:15am, patrol officer supervisors training with online video modules.

3:30pm, received report of a capsized sailboat near the Ventura Pier from an individual walking around the Botanical Gardens on hill in Ventura. Officers responded in the Fireboat to investigate. Nothing was found, only a SUP surfer.

9:05pm, received request to search all electric boats operating in Ventura Harbor because the caller believes their iPhone is on one of them. To the callers’ chagrin, advised to call back later in the week to see if the phone is turned in.
Wednes 4/17 3:53pm, while on patrol in the vehicle, officers observed a large tire near the Santa Clara Rivermouth. It was picked up and placed in the roll-out dumpster.
Thursday 4/18 3:42am, dispatched to 1215 Anchors Way for a 79 y/o female with severe pain. Officers responded with AMR/VFD to assist with the patient.

2:45pm, received a request for an annual parking permit for the Launch Ramp. Officers returned from patrol and assisted the individual with issuing a permit.

Friday 4/19

 7:40am, officers in RB19 providing traffic control for Manson construction pulling sand replenishment pipe off the beach and towing to Oceanside harbor.

Saturday 4/20

 9:33am, received report of an overdue 42 ft Beneteau sailboat, officers advised the reporting party to contact US coast guard for such calls.

10:30am, received request from US coast guard to check the slip of the overdue 42ft sailboat. Officers responded in vehicle, checked the slip, no vessel in the slip, contacted US coast guard and they advised the vessel was located at smugglers cove Santa Cruz Island safely anchored and in no distress.

Sunday 4/21

 6:35am, received a request for a tow from a disabled vessel at the harbor entrance. Officers responded, towed the vessel to the launch ramp.

2:20pm, dispatched to Ocean Rescue four swimmers in distress near the South Jetty. Officers responded by land and sea to the call. The officers in the vehicle assisted three swimmers near shoreline, began assessments for aspirated sea water with AMR/VFD. Officers aboard Rescue B19 deployed a rescue swimmer to pull an unconscious victim from the water, later transported to hospital by AMR for further evaluation.

8:30pm, received report that the South Jetty red aid-to-navigation (ATON) light is extinguished. Officers contacted US coast guard and advised of the hazard.

Monday 4/22

 8:40am, officers replacing ATON buoys P, #8, #13 and #14 on station with Fireboat 1 after Manson Construction replenishment dredging completed.

10:45am, received report of vessel accident, commercial FV colliding with the fish offloading pier. Officers responded and are investigating the incident.

1:50pm, dispatched to a K9 swept across the Santa Clara River breech. Officers responded, deployed rescue swimmer, rescued then returned dog to owner.

Tuesday 4/23

 11:42am, dispatched to medical in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded with AMR/VFD to the call to assist with 79 y/o female.

4:07pm, dispatched to an ill person near 1431 Spinnaker Dr. Officers responded with VFD Squad 2/AMR to assist with the patient.

Wednes 3/27

 9:05pm, observed the Manson Dredge in the A-basin of the harbor conducting “beneficial reuse” of sediment to replenish harbor and beaches downcoast.

Thursday 3/28

 3:12pm, received report of a Hazard to Navigation in the keys. Officers responded in Rescue B19 and removed a 20ft long garden hose floating in basin.

6:34pm, received report of a female screaming near VHV C-dock. Officers responded, found the female transient as reported, escorted her to Harbor Blvd.

Friday 3/29

 4:07am, dispatched to a fall victim in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded, assisted the patient up off floor, no injuries were sustained.

3:20pm, received report of illegal fishing at Pond in Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded and removed the young men from the park.

Saturday 3/30

 9:33am, officers cleaning, relocating equipment in preparation for their Boat House remodel and rebuilding beginning next week.

2:09pm, while on patrol, observed 5mph buoy in the A-basin off station. Officers towed it back to its position, moved during dredging.

Sunday 3/31

 12:32am, dispatched to 99 y/o unconscious. Officers responded with AMR / VFD and assisted with treatment and preparing for transport.

Monday 4/1

 3:20pm, received report of 2 transients attempting to use thrown away paddle boards to paddle to the Santa Clara Rivermouth from the L/R. Officers were able to convince them to postpone the adventure. Issued warning for no PFD’s.

Tuesday 4/2

 3:10pm, dispatched to vehicle in the water at the L/R, officers responded by land and water. Once on scene, determined no one in the vehicle. The individual was retrieving their vessel and accidently backed into the water. Vehicle towed out of the water with assistance from TowBoat US and Anacapa towing.
Thursday 4/4 .10:40am, received a request for disposing of expired flares. Officers explained US coast guard receives flares at CI Harbor safety expo or contact USCG.

Friday 4/5

 4:43pm, while on patrol in truck, flagged down by injured individual at the launch ramp. Officers rendered first aid for an injured thumb, released at scene.

6:51pm, received report of an injured seabird, Greeb on Spinnaker Dr. Officers responded and were able to capture the bird for rescue group and rehabilitation.

Saturday 4/6

 5:15am, received request to jumpstart security vehicle in the village. Officers responded and were able to start the vehicle.

12:18am, dispatched to a sick person in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded and assisted VFD and AMR with the patient.

3:22pm, dispatched to investigation of large oil spill occurring at Surfers Knoll. Officers responded, found Manson conducting beneficial reuse, or replenishment of sand erosion. The operation was explained to concerned patrons and caller.

Sunday 4/7

 6:33am, observed bad weather forecast again, raised Gale Warning pennants.

2:25pm, dispatched to an unknown medical at Surfers Knoll. Officers responded and found the patient intoxicated and going in and out of the ocean, to the concern of beach patrons. Convinced the individual to stay out of the sea.

11:33pm, officers securing vessels due to gusty winds loosening lines.

Monday 4/8

 10:44am, advising fire dispatch that primary response vehicle is Out-of-Service, 2nd vehicle in primary role. Harbor 1 needs diagnostics and fuel tank repair.

11:41am, dispatched to a sick person at the Surfers Knoll parking lot. Officers responded with VFD/AMR to assist the patient who was transported to hospital.

5:03pm, received report of a disgruntled customer at gift shop in the village. Officers responded and diffused the situation, customer satisfied with returns.

Tuesday 4/9

 8:47am, officers conducting traffic control in Fireboat/Rescue B19 for Manson Dredge returning to Pierpont Basin for repairs.

Tuesday 3/12

 10:55am, officers issued Harbor Patrol badge stickers to Moorpark unified school district children for participating in beach cleanup at Harbor Cove.

7:45pm, while on patrol in Rescue B-19, officers contacted several vessels engaged in hoop netting near the breakwall. Warnings were issued for a motorized kayak without navigation lights, not registered. Another vessel with 3 POB’s, requesting contact info because they are having mechanical issues.

Wednes 3/13

 1:45pm, dispatched to an aircraft down near Faria Beach. Officers responded in Fireboat with US coast guard and VC sheriff helicopter, but call was false alarm.

Thursday 3/14

 6:30pm, dispatched to an assault at VWM D-dock. Officers responded with VFD/AMR and VPD to assist a 52 y/o male with major injuries from a fight with trespassers. The patient refused treatment or transportation to hospital.

Friday 3/15

 10:03am, officers placing flowers at the Paul Korber Memorial at Harbor Cove. Today is the anniversary for the Harbor Patrol Officer, who tragically died in an Ocean Rescue in the South Jetty rip current.

Saturday 3/16

 4:40pm, dispatched to a capsized kayak, person in the water near the District longdock. Officers responded, assisted victim onto the Fireboat.

Sunday 3/17

 11:03am, received a request for a tow of a 34ft sailboat being towed by another. Officers responded in the Fireboat, took over the tow 1mile outside harbor.

4:47pm, dispatched to a boat fire at VWM phase II. Officers responded in the Fireboat, found an older motor vessel with heavy exhaust, no fire.

Tuesday 3/19

 7:00am, contacting a nuisance sailboat at the launch ramp. The skipper, “Garth” has far worn out his welcome at most harbors in the area. He was reluctant to leave, officers wrote a citation for failing to obtain permission to secure.

10:03pm, while on patrol, issued written warnings to two fishermen for multiple violations of ordinances and State fishing laws. Contacted the pair hoop netting at the breakwall, terminated their voyage for no lifejackets or flares.

Wednes 3/20

 11:44pm, received request for access to marina for Fish & Wildlife warden investigating a fisherman stealing hoop nets at the breakwall, he was arrested.

11:59pm, 2023/24 California spiny lobster season closes till October 2024.

Thursday 3/21

 10:30am, officers meeting with Manson Construction discussing the upcoming maintenance dredging of Ventura Harbor. This year Manson will dredge into the harbor and into the keys for first time in years. Also they will dredge the main channel and the sandtrap, hopefully replenishing harbor beaches that have been heavily eroded this last winter by storms and large waves.
Saturday 3/23 11:17am, received report of a transient stealing items from construction site on Anchors Way. Ventura PD was contacted and they investigated the incident.

4:45pm, officers monitoring large commercial vessels returning to port with dangerous entrance conditions and Manson Dredge in the entrance.

Tuesday 3/26

 5:30am, observed NWS issued Small Craft Advisory, raised warning pennant.

9:06am, received request for Dredge passing instructions from a boater in the keys. Advised he could contact the dredge by hailing “Mr. Manson” VHF 16/67 for passing instructions from dredge captain.

 

Vol. 17, No. 13 – Mar 20 – April 2, 2024 – Harbor Patrol Blotter

Tuesday 2/27

 2:00pm, received report of an RC sailboat caught in a dock near Marina Park. Officers responded, were able to rescue the RC sailboat, returned to owner.

10:24pm, dispatched to pregnancy issue at restrooms in the Village. Officers responded with AMR/VFD to assist a 20 y/o homeless female have labor pains. The patient refused treatment and/or any assistance from responders.

Wednes 2/28

 6:30am, dispatched to injured ankle in riverbottom south of Surfers Knoll. Officers responded with AMR/VFD and transported medics to the scene in Patrol truck. The patient was treated and transported to local hospital

6:30pm, while on patrol in the Fireboat, officers contacted several vessels engaged in hoop net fishing. All fishermen followed ordinances.

Thursday 2/29

 10:30am, Patrol Officers training new Marine Safety Officers on duties as deckhands on rescue vessels and other duties for MSO’s.

Friday 3/1

 4:40pm, dispatched to traumatic injuries on commercial vessel Island Explorer. Officers responded to VHV I-dock, assisted with moving the patient to a gurney.

Saturday 3/2

 9:40am, new patrol officers undertaking the USCG license application, after passing all testing. Seasoned patrol officers assisting with the lengthy process.

Sunday 3/3

 8:33am, officers raised Gale warning pennants for winds gusting to 35kts later.

11:13am, dispatched to a fall patient at the VYC. Officers responded and assisted VFD/AMR with a 98 y/o patient who fell on the dock.

6:57pm, dispatched to difficulty breathing at VYC. Officers responded with AMR/VFD and assisted the patient, who was eventually transported to hospital.
Thursday 3/7 8:31am, dispatched to a traffic accident on Spinnaker Dr. Officers responded with VFD/AMR to assist a patient with neck/hip pain. Patient transported.

7:44pm, dispatched to an ill person in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded with AMR/VFD to assist the patient who was transported to hospital.

Friday 3/8

 9:58am, a sink hole was discovered near the entry feature at Spinnaker Dr. The City of Ventura is repairing sewer lines that have failed in the area.

8:43pm, while on patrol in the truck, officers observed that Navigator Dr. north bound lanes were closed due to the sink hole and sewer work by Ventura City.

Saturday 3/9

 3:51pm, while on patrol in Fireboat, officers observed a large hat blown off a crew member of the dive boat Spectre. The hat was retrieved and returned.

8:00pm, while on patrol in vehicle, observed a large bon fire near Surfers Knoll. Officers contacted the youths, extinguished the fire. A large group was forming, parking in the village. Ventura PD was on scene, dispersing the crowd.

Sunday 3/10

 5:15pm, received report of a suspicious person frightening customers at the Casa de Regalos in the village. Officers responded, contacted the individual who was under the influence of some sort of opioid. He eventually sped up his purchase after what seemed like forever to count his money and left without incident.

Monday 3/11

 10:00am, officers conducting tow training with Fireboat and Rescue Boat 19.

11:50am, received a mayday call via cellphone from the skipper of a disabled motor vessel near the Ventura Pier. Officers responded in Rescue Boat 19 to assist the disabled vessel and towed to the launch ramp.

10:15pm, while returning from patrol in the vehicle, observed the power go out throughout the harbor. Fielding multiple calls for information on the outage. Relaying to inquiries that officers were in the dark about the cause.

10:17pm, dispatched to electric hazard near the National Parks building. Officers responded with VFD, unable to locate source, contacted Edison.

Tuesday 3/12

 7:45pm, contacting several vessels hoop netting near the entrance. Most vessels were deficient in safety equipment. Issued warnings for violations.

 

Vol. 17, No. 12 – Mar 6 – Mar 19, 2024 – Harbor Patrol Blotter

Wednes 2/14

 9:40am, received a report of a bird trapped in a business in the village. Officers responded and the bird was able to free itself from the business without incident.

11:41am, dispatched to a traffic accident on Spinnaker Drive involving two motorcycles. Officers responded and assisted VFD/AMR with two patients who sustained severe injuries, they were treated, then transported to the hospital.

Thursday 2/15

 11:10am, received report of a Hazard to Navigation in the middle finger of the keys. Officers responded in the Fireboat, removed a 4x8ft piece of plywood.

Friday 2/16

 5:05pm, received report of a hit-n-run involving a boat trailer at the launch ramp. Officers assisted with towing an elite ocean rowing boat to patrol dock for storage because the trailers’ roller was destroyed, they were unable to retrieve it.

Saturday 2/17

 7:55am, received report of dry storage entry gate malfunctioning. Officers responded and attempted to trouble-shoot. opening unit sustained major damage, likely from a boat trailer. Gate secured after attempts to repair unsuccessful.
Sunday 2/18 8:30am, officers patrolling the Ventura Point on Rescue Watercraft to assist and/or conduct water rescues of distressed surfers along with State Parks. Several ocean rescues and safety contacts were executed of surfers in distress.

9:45am, received report of transients trespassing at VWM restrooms. Officers responded and contacted a couple attempting to use the private restrooms.

Monday 2/19

 7:00am, officers used delineators/caution tape to close Navigator Dr for flooding

5:10pm, responded to a small vessel with 2 POB’s hoop netting in the sandtrap. Observed the vessel nearly swamped by a huge wave/whitewater blast over the breakwall. Terminated the skipper’s voyage, escorted to the longdock for safety inspection.

Tuesday 2/20

 6:27am, dispatched to fall patient in Ventura Marina Community. Lifted patient.

11:45am, dispatched to a Boat Fire in VWM A-dock. Officers responded in Fireboat and in HP vehicle to a 60ft powerboat fully involved. With help from tenants using dock fire hose and VFD, the fire was knocked down before it could spread to other vessels nearby. Officers moved “exposed” vessels away until the fire was extinguished. The incident is under investigation; vessel is a total loss.

Wednes 2/21

 8:15pm, received a call for assistance from a 4-person rowboat off Santa Clara River mouth, en route to Manhattan Beach on a training voyage. One of the rowers is seasick. The crew was taken aboard the Fireboat, TowBoat US towed the rowing vessel back to Harbor. The crew is training to row to Hawaii in June.

Saturday 2/24

 6:50am, while on patrol in the vehicle, officers observed a large pile of trash near Harbor Cove. Cleaned up the considerable mess of various large items taken from a dumpster officers deposited yesterday. Apparently upset transients.

1:40pm, received report of a lost person in the village. After gathering information including description of person, reporting party found the individual

9:15pm, received report of two large bon fires south of Surfers Knoll while conducting lockups. Officers responded with Ventura PD and assisted with breaking up the large parties and extinguishing the fires.

Sunday 2/25

 12:45pm, dispatched to a vehicle and trailer in the water at the launch ramp. Officers responded by land and sea, found the vehicle submerged and still connected to the boat/trailer. After hours of debate, the owner finally relented and took responsibility for the accident. TowBoat US assisted with towing the vehicle out of the water. Unfortunately, the vehicle is a total loss.

Wednes 1/31

 8:45am, observed 1/8mile visibility dense fog bank, activated fog signal.
Thursday 2/1 7:08am, observing heavy rain downpours. Navigator Dr is flooded, officers deploying barricades near Spinnaker Dr and Anchors Way closing Navigator.

10:28am, observed a rigid hull inflatable aground on the rip rap near Marina Park. Officers responded, contacted TowBoat US and assisted removal. The vessel was one of theirs, broke free from mooring in the middle of the night.

Friday 2/2

 8:21am, dispatched to a vessel listing heavily in Portside Marina. Officers responded in Fireboat, found the vessel with the transom nearly underwater. Pumps were used to dewater vessel, Tow Boat US towed the vessel to boatyard.

4:05pm, observed a family preparing to go hoop netting on kayaks at the launch ramp. Officers contacted the group, advised of hazardous conditions. They left.

Saturday 2/3

 9:40am, officers preparing for the storm, placing dewatering pumps in all vessels and vehicles for flooding from the predicted heavy rains and inclement weather.

12:20pm, strong South Winds beset a small bird that was blown into the Port District Building. Officers were able to convince the bird to fly out of building.

7:35pm, received request to dewater a fishing seiners skiff in commercial docks. Officers responded and dewatered the vessel with electric pumps.

Sunday 2/4

 11:35am, dispatched to a vessel taking on water in VIM. Officers responded in the Fireboat, were able to dewater the vessel in its slip. Bilge pump disabled.

9:38pm, dispatched to a fire in the Harbor Cove Restrooms. Officers responded with VFD, found a transient with a warming fire in one of the restrooms.
Tuesday 2/6 4:45pm, officers inspecting the temporary work keeping the Marina Park Dock from floating away. The dock was still intact, light surge conditions present.

Wednes 2/7

 8:16pm, while securing restrooms at Harbor Cove, officers found a 40 y/o female reporting she was abandoned, no here to go. Officers contacted VPD for homeless care, but the warming center was closed. Provided kit with warm clothes/blankets, also allowed her to stay in restroom due to inclement weather.

Thursday 2/8

 6:05am, dispatched to traffic accident near VIM parking lot. Officers responded with VPD/VFD, found the vehicle high-centered on median. No injuries or intoxication issues involved. Patrol was able to tow the vehicle off the median.
Friday 2/9 9:33am, while on patrol in the Fireboat, officers observed considerable Hazards to Navigation including large logs and all sorts of flotsam outside the harbor.

12:58pm, dispatched to a wellness check of a person living in their vehicle near the boatyard. Officers responded with VFD/AMR, eventually were able to contact the individual who was barricaded in their vehicle, no medical observed.

5:01pm, received report one of the commercial fishing vessels is taking on water and needs an emergency haul out. Contacted TowBoat US, they assisted.

Saturday 2/10

 10:35pm, received request for assistance with Fish & Wildlife warden investigating illegal catch at the breakwall. Officers assisted, escorted in the Fireboat to the breakwall to release an undersized lobster that was kept.

Sunday 2/11

 7:12am, dispatched to a missing swimmer at Greenock Lane jetty. Officers responded in Fireboat and Rescue WaterCraft to assist in the search. Victim was found, resuscitation efforts begun, but unfortunately the patient was not revived.

Monday 2/12

 9:55am, officers aboard the Fireboat removing swim area buoys from Harbor Cove, towing to the launch ramp to clean growth off.

6:44pm, received report of a transient setting up camp near Village restaurant. Officers responded, contacted individual, he was organizing his belongings.
