Vol. 15, No. 16 – May 4 – May 17, 2022 – Harbor Patrol Blotter

 

Monday 4/11

Officers assisted the duck and ducklings across street. Two of the ducklings were rejected, officers captured for rescue volunteers.

2:03pm, dispatched to ocean rescue at Surfers Knoll. Officers responded in the Fireboat to the call. The victim was assisted out of the water, no injuries.

Wed 4/13

9:00am, officers preparing Patrol lifeguard unit for State Parks. Lifeguarding at Harbor beaches is provided by State Parks. Harbor Patrol assists with boats.

11:55pm, observed a female transient pulling a small dinghy down Spinnaker near Surfers Knoll. Officers inquired, she was given the vessel and planned on heading to the Santa Clara River to launch it.

Thursday 4/14

1:57am, dispatched to a dumpster fire at the Holiday Inn. Officers responded with VPD/VFD. It was started by a transient found by PD. \

5:08pm, officers familiarizing themselves with City of Oxnard patrol boat that is on loan until patrol boats damaged in the recent tsunami are repaired or replaced

11:58pm, observed two coyotes hunt down a cat near the Ventura Boat Yard. All animals ran off before officers could intervene.

Friday 4/15

3:39pm, received report of a large dog off leash near Harbor Cove. Officers responded and contacted the owner, issued warning. The dog was put on leash.

Saturday 4/16

9:30am, officers conducting traffic control for Manson Construction. They towed dredge pipe and the crane “Freya” out of the harbor to Long Beach.

Sunday 4/17

4:40pm, received report of a peddle boat beset by wind. Assisted to rental dock

8:15pm, dispatched to a water rescue, person in the water at VWM H-dock. Officers responded, found the victim swam back to his boat, no medical.

Monday 4/18

8:15pm, received report of a 130ft Socal Ship Services vessel is inbound disabled and will be operating in reverse. Observed the vessel operating from outside into the Harbor and safely to the boatyard haul-out.

Tuesday 4/19

6:49pm, dispatched to an Ocean Rescue, 3 kite surfers in distress near Ventura Pier. Officers responded in the Fireboat, assisted State Parks/Fire with the victims. All victims were safely brought to shore, no injuries occurred.

Wednes 4/20

6:03am, while on patrol, observed an injured mama duck in the median on Spinnaker, officers captured the bird for rescue volunteers.

8:05pm, while on patrol, contacted operator of small vessel with no navigation lights. Terminated voyage and escorted vessel back to their slip.

Thursday 4/21

8:35am, received complaint about sealions barking on VIM docks. Advised that the marina was working on the problem, moving vessels into empty slips and using all legal mitigation strategies to remove the mammals.

5:15pm, received report of two gray whales at the harbor entrance from Island Packers. The vessel Islander was able to guide the whales out to sea.

Friday 4/22

6:04pm, dispatched to medical, headache at Holiday Inn. Officers responded and assisted Fire/AMR with the patient. AMR transported to local hospital.

10:00pm, received complaint of loud music on a vessel and children harassing a coyote on the dock at VIM. Officers responded, gained compliance with the loud music and rescued the “fake” sealion deterrent coyote from the A-Basin.

Sunday 4/24 11-1pm, dispatched to two separate stingray strikes at Harbor Cove Beach.

1:25pm, dispatched to fall victim in Ventura Marina Community, gave lift assist

6:12pm, dispatched to fall victim at Ventura Sports Fishing. Officers responded assisted VFD/AMR with the patient with left arm fracture. Patient transported.

Wednesday
03-30

3:13pm, received a report of an aggressive sea lion that takes over a tenant’s boat at VHV H-dock. Officers relaying information for legal methods and/or strategies of removing marine mammals from docks or vessels.

Thursday
03-31

8:45am, received complaints of an individual living in their vehicle at the launch ramp. Officers investigated; the individual left the area after contact.

11:03pm, contacted transient with multiple personal items in the launch ramp restrooms. The individual was warned of trespassing and moved on.

04-01

4:03pm, received report of a dead sea lion near the South Jetty on Harbor Cove. Officers investigated, found the mammal and contacted CIMWI for removal.

Saturday
04-02

7:30am, observed transients setting up a “lean-to” near the Santa Clara Rivermouth breech. Officers contacted and had individuals remove shelter.

11:30am, officers conducting training for two new Harbor Patrol Officers. Practicing close quarters maneuvering with the Fireboat and RWC.

Sunday
4-03

10:30am, received report of a vessel emitting excessive amount of smoke in the mid portion of the harbor, possibly on fire. Officers responded, found the violator near the launch ramp. The vessels exhaust was large, but no fire aboard. Advised to mitigate the issue, if possible, probably some bad fuel.

4:50pm, received request to assist sea bird rescue volunteer. Officers assisted with capturing an oiled Grebe in the barranca storm/irrigation channel.

Wednesday
4-06

1:55pm, dispatched to trash can fire on Harbor Blvd. Officers responded with VFD to a male arsonist walking down Harbor. VPD responded to investigate.

3:38pm, dispatched to an injured person in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded and assisted VFD/VPD with the call. The individual suffers from Dementia and calls regarding physical abuse regularly.

4-07

1:37pm, officers observed a vehicle with expired parking permit and registration tags at the launch ramp. Officers issued a parking citation, warning for reg.

Friday
4-08

5:43am, dispatched to an unknown medical at 1363 Spinnaker, VIM parking lot. Officers responded with VFD/AMR to a man down on the promenade. A 50 y/o male was deceased with signs of rigor mortis. VPD took over the investigation.

8:25am, received complaints regarding Fishing seiners spreader lights are on all night, disturbing tenants throughout the harbor. Advised we would investigate.

4-09

6:22am, observed NWS issued Small Craft Advisory. Raised warning pennant.

8:17am, dispatched to vegetation fire near McGrath. Assisted VFD with location and best access to the fire for responding units.

9:30am, Ventura Yacht Club fired blank cannon shotto celebrate opening day.

9:04pm, received report of a vessel listing in VHV commercial docks. Officers responded, investigated and found the vessel had water in the Port fish hold.

4-10

12:15am, monitored a fire at McGrath, officers were on patrol and headed that direction. After investigation, determined it was a flare up from yesterdays fire.

6:19am, observed NWS issued Small Craft Advisory, raised warning pennant.

10:55am, received complaint that 3 dogs were locked in a vehicle at Harbor Cove. Officers investigated, but were unable to locate the vehicle.

1:20pm, while on patrol in truck, officer observed two swimmers caught in a rip current at Surfers Knoll. One officer responded from vehicle, one from the Fireboat. One of the victims was unconscious when brought to shore. Officers performed first aid and patient was eventually released at scene.

6:35pm, received request to place a catheter, officers advised not trained at that.

Wednesday
03-16

3:44am, observed NWS issued High Surf advisory. Raised warning pennant.

8:01am, observed a 7.3 earthquake occurred in Japan. Researching tsunami.gov for info related to the West Coast. No tsunami expected from the event.

8:00pm, received report of an Ocean Rescue, missing kite boarder. Officers responded in Fireboat, experienced heavy seas. After investigation, it was determined the kite board was found in the parking lot. Cancelled response.

Thursday
03-17

12:15am, observed two Manson Construction vessels at the VPD longdock were unsecured. Officers found parted stern and spring lines, were able to secure with new lines. The vessels experienced heavy harbor surge from wind, rough seas.

10:15am, received report of an Ocean Rescue, vessel in the surf near McGrath. Officers responded in Fireboat with TowBoat US. A line was passed to the vessels captain, TowBoat was able to safely pull them out of the surf, no injuries

7:45am, contacted by owner of an RV, jump started in the VIM parking lot.

10:17am, dispatched to a fire in the riverbottom, officers responded with VFD and investigated. A small warming fire was located and extinguished.

Monday
03-21

3:05pm, received request to assist Tow Boat US with towing a 104ft motor vessel to the haul out slip. The vessel “Gentry Eagle” was secured to Ventura Boat yard docks for a very long time. The vessel is to be destroyed. Harbor Patrol assisted the vessel when it first arrived from Hawaii, its last port of call.

10:20am, received report of a vessel accident at VIM D-dock. Officers responded and investigated two large motor vessels that were involved. Major damage was sustained. The two owners were notified, investigation continues.

7:24pm, received report of a stolen vehicle, advised to contact VPD. While searching the area, officers found the vehicle parked on the other side of VHV.

3:45pm, assisting VPD searching for a subject pursuit in a stolen vehicle, ending up in VIM parking lot and then fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit he was caught near the Holiday Inn Express. He was arrested for multiple violations.

03-28

6:06am, observed National Weather Service issued a Small Craft Advisory for winds to 30kts. Officers raised warning pennant at the Ventura Port District.

6:30am, observing and experiencing heavy rain and strong winds. Eventually measuring 2.1 inches of rain for the storm.

3:20am, dispatched to a fall victim in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded, assisted VFD with lifting the patient to her chair. No injuries.

Tuesday 03-01

8:26am, received a report of Hazard to Navigation near the #2 buoy, adrift mast, probably from the sunk sailboat Destiny. Officers responded and removed it.

Wednes 03-02

9:00am, assisting H.R. Morris dredge with traffic control while they anchor in the Pierpont Basin. Manson construction is complete with harbor maintenance.

6:15pm, received report of a lot of debris, likely from the sunken sailboat Destiny in the Harbor Entrance. Advised the owner and US coast guard.

Thursday 03-03

9:30pm, contacted by a male who was pulled from a strong rip current a few months ago at the Santa Clara Rivermouth after capsizing on his kayak. He thanked officers for saving his life.

Friday 03-04

1:12pm, dispatched to an Ocean Rescue, disabled PWC at the Ventura Point. Officers responded, found State Parks PWC returning to harbor. Canceled units..

Saturday 03-05

3:06am, observed NWS issued a Gale warning for winds gusting to 35kts.

9:00am, received request from State Parks to conduct their qualification swim for new lifeguards at Harbor Cove due to adverse NW winds. Patrol monitored.

Sunday 03-06

8:00am, Oxnard College lifeguard academy conducting physical activities and submerged victim training at Harbor Cove Beach. Officers assisting with class.

8:05am, officers conducting a swim test for Harbor Patrol officer candidates.

Tuesday 03-08

3:15pm, received report of a boating accident at Portside marina. Officers responded in the Fireboat to investigate. A sailboat lost transmission and collided with a moored vessel. Minor damage occurred.
Wednes 03-09 3:30am, dispatched to brush fire in Santa Clara Riverbottom. Officers responded with VFD to the call. Patrol assisted with transporting firefighters to the scene in 4×4 vehicle. The small fire was extinguished.

7:55am, observed NWS issued Small Craft Advisory. Raised warning pennant.

11:11am, observed brush fire reignited from offshore aboard fireboat. Contacted fire dispatch and advised.

Thursday 03-10

4:40pm, contacted by a tenant of the Ventura Marina Community requesting a large wall be built between Harbor Blvd and the park so they could sleep easier. Officers advised they would pass on idea/complaint to Harbor Managers.

4:50pm, monitored VPD dispatched to Harbor Cove for a man involved in an altercation using a hammer. VPD handled the call, Harbor Patrol staged safe distance away in case any injuries were sustained. No injuries reported.

Sunday 03-13

4:11pm, received report of a whale in the main channel of the harbor. Officers responded in Fireboat, were able to convince and escort the mammal out to sea

4:33pm, dispatched to choking victim in the Portside. Officers responded with VFD/AMR to the call. The female patient refused treatment.

7:28pm, received a “Mayday” call on VHF 16. After charting the fishing vessels position, determined it was out of Patrols response area. Tow Boat US responded with coast guard and were able to rescue the 3 fishermen 10 miles off Carpentaria. The 60 ft fishing vessel Katalina Phan sank soon after Mayday call.

 

 

Vol. 15, No. 12 – Mar 9 – Mar 22, 2022 – Harbor Patrol Blotter

Thursday 02/17

1:30am, dispatched to chest pain at VWM C-dock. Officers responded and assisted VFD/AMR with the patient who was transported by AMR.

4:55am, monitored two vessels inbound requesting passing information from the H.R. Morris dredge. Monitored until they were safely in the harbor.

Friday 02/18

12:33am, received report from local male transient parked in vehicle near village that a female transient is screaming while walking. Officers investigated and found the female screaming softly and leaving the area.

10:05am, while on patrol in Fireboat, moved several commercial lobster traps that “walked” to the Harbor Entrance. Placed in lobster grounds off breakwall.

Saturday 02/19

4:15pm, received reports and observed the 55ft sailboat anchored off Greenock Ln. Jetty is adrift and heading towards the North end of the breakwall. Officers responded, but the ferro-cement sailboat rammed into breakwall and sank upon arrival.

5:10pm, received report of persons on a dreamer rental peddle “dragon” boat are running on the Portside docks and jumping into the water. Officers responded, stopped the ruckus, and escorted the vessel/crew back to Dreamer Rentals.

Sunday 02/20

8:20am, working with dredge tenders, Tow Boat US to remove and tow teak debris from the sunken sailboat from yesterday. Placing debris at L/R.

12:30pm, received report of a dock float adrift in the final finger of the keys. Advised RP, City of Ventura is responsible for the keys. Investigated to ensure the dock float was not a hazard to navigation in the fireboat.

11:40pm, dispatched to person stuck in the elevator at Holiday Inn express. Officers responded with VFD/AMR, elevator power restored, no one inside.

Monday 02/21

4:00pm, received several inquires and reports about wood debris from the boating accident from Saturday. Still no diesel sheens observed in area.
Thursday 02/24 9:23pm, while enforcing launch ramp parking, officers removed a large school bus refurbished into an RV for no camping in the harbor.

Friday 02/25

3:33pm, received report of a gun shot from a tenant in the Ventura Marina Community. Advised to hang up and call 911. Contacted PD, no call received.

Officers try to remind callers, contact 911 for emergencies or police calls.

Saturday 02/26

8:00am, Oxnard College Lifeguard academy utilizing harbor patrol facilities for their annual Academy. Officers assisting with boat transports.

11:21am, dispatched to a traffic accident on Navigator, vehicle into irrigation valves near Holdiay Inn Express. No injuries, driver investigated for DUI.

3:45pm, dispatched to an Ocean Rescue, kite surfer in distress at the Ventura Pier. Officers responded in the Fireboat with multiple agencies. The victim was assisted back to shore, refused medical treatment.

9:07pm, dispatched to an assault at VWM A-dock, officers responded and staged for VPD. No injuries sustained; both had fallen into the water. PD investigating.

Sunday 02/27

8:45am, officers assisting Oxnard College Lifeguard academy with traffic control while candidates swim a course through the harbor.

9:05am, officers escorting a special ceremony out to the #2 buoy in Fireboat.

2:08pm, dispatched to a hazard investigation at Surfers Knoll, black substance flowing into the beach/ocean. Officers responded with US coast guard, VFD. Once again, the culprit: spoil from the dredge out flow, maintenance dredging.

4:40pm, received report of a hazard to navigation adrift in the main basin of the keys. Officers responded, towed the 15ft cement dock float to the launch ramp.

Monday 02/28

1:23am, observed a vegetation fire near settling ponds. Advised fire and assisted with beach transport to investigate. VFD accessed through water plant.

4:37pm, received a single unconfirmed report of a boat fire near VYC. Officers responded in Fireboat, found a motor vessel with heavy diesel smoke, no fire.

Wednes 02/02

6:00am, National Weather Service issued a Small Craft Advisory for East winds gusting to 30 kts. Officers raised warning pennants at Port District flagpole.

Friday 02/04

11:37am, dispatched to abdominal pain at Waterside restaurant. Officers responded and found the patient as described. After he was transported, got information that the individual was prowling around the business earlier.

Saturday 02/05

7:46am, dispatched to person in the water near VWM E-dock, unresponsive. Officers responded in the Fireboat to investigate, found the body floating face down. Medics arrived, pronounce the person deceased. Coroner removed body.

2:07pm, received a report of a transient threatening an employee of a business in the Harbor Village. Advised of appropriate agency to contact, VPD or 911.

Sunday 02/06

11:00am, overheard VHF 16 traffic and receiving multiple reports of a Commercial Fishing Seiner in violation of speed and wake ordinance in the harbor. Observed vessel pushing a huge wake & steaming outbound at full speed. Officers established contact on VHF 11, and when they did questioned what he was doing. The skipper advised, “he was having a bad day.” The incident is under investigation for damage & eviction from commercial slips.

Monday 02/07

4:32am, dispatched to sick person in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded and found the patient naked, pinned inbetween bed frame and various other things. Patient has various issues, deaf, rapid pulse and screaming. VFD medics took over assessment and transported patient.

2:14pm, received multiple reports of a vessel in violation of speed ordinance in the harbor. Officers responded, contacted & issued warning. The operator acted suspiciously, officers brought to the launch ramp for further investigation.

7:30pm, received report of a raccoon blocking the entrance to a unit in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded and assisted the tenant with moving the animal out of the way so they could enter their unit.

Tuesday 02/07

7:00am, officers assisting with traffic control in Fireboat 1 so Manson Construction can pull pipe for maintenance dredging, beginning soon.

Thursday 02/10

11:08am, observed repeat offender of the speed and wake ordinance inbound in the main channel of the harbor. Advised the skipper of the violation and forwarding incident to his marina manager for review slip agreement & eviction.

Friday 02/11

4:54pm, received report of a woman pounding on windows of the Surf-n-Taco. Officers responded and found the female transient screaming. VPD arrived, investigating, found no crime committed, just bizarre behavior. She moved on.

Sunday 02/13

5:05pm, received a report of a fuel sheen near VHV Dock. Officers investigated but were unable to locate any significant sheen in the area reported.

11:55pm, while on patrol, officers contacted a group of 20 young males drinking and loitering in VHV parking lot. Officers waiting until the group departed.

Monday 02/14

7:30am, conducting traffic control for Manson dredge being towed into the harbor for maintenance dredging. They are set to begin Tuesday afternoon.

9:52am, dispatched to an unconscious person in the Portside apartments. Officers responded and assisted VFD/AMR with the patient. AMR transported.

4:58pm, dispatched to a fall victim in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded with VFD/AMR and assisted patient to his bed, no injuries.

Tuesday 02/15

3:24am, dispatched to a fall victim in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded with VFD/AMR and assisted patient from floor to his bed. No injury.

1:34pm, dispatched to traumatic head injury in Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded with AMR/VFD. Patient treated then transported by AMR.

 

Vol. 15, No. 10 – Feb 9 – Feb 22, 2022 – Harbor Patrol Blotter

Sunday 01/16

8:00am, officers on patrol in Fireboat, assessing damage from the tsunami through out the harbor, many docks damaged or destroyed. Navigation, swim area buoys retrieved, towed to the Basin until they can be put back on station.

5:30pm, receiving multiple inquires about the launch ramp closure. Advising that multiple destroyed and damaged docks were secured to the ramp docks.

Tuesday 01/18

11:50am, received report of an unknown object ½ mile from shore near the Ventura Pier. Officers responded in Fireboat and found a dock float, presumably from the tsunami event. The flotsam was towed to the L/R.

Friday 01/21

1:35pm, dispatched to domestic abuse call in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded and staged until VPD cleared scene. No medical component.

11:55pm, dispatched to a fall victim in Portside complex. Officers responded and assisted the patient to his feet & then his bed. No medical, refused treatment

Saturday 01/22

8:37pm, received report from the skipper of a 21ft aluminum vessel capsized outside the breakwall while hoop netting. The skipper advised that he swam back to marina park, then to our office, he was unable to call mayday because radio and phone were in the water. Officers responded, found the vessel as reported. TowBoat US took over the salvage operation. No injuries occurred.

Sunday 01/23

10:15am, received request for a tow from the skipper of a disabled electric boat near the Launch ramp. Officers responded, towed vessel to its slip in the keys.

10:22pm, received report of juveniles drinking in the VWM parking lot. Officers responded and removed the group from the lot.

Monday 01/24

3:58pm, dispatched to an Ocean Rescue at the Ventura Pier, surfer in distress. Officers responded in Fireboat and on the Rescue watercraft (PWC) to assist State Parks, AMR & Ventura Fire. A surfer used his smart watch to call 911.

Tuesday 01/25

9:32am, received report of stolen gasoline from National Park Service vehicles. A siphon was found in one of the vehicles tanks. Incident is under investigation.

Thursday 01/27

7:50am, received request to assist sea bird rescue volunteer capture an injured pelican. While en route, officers found an injured seabird. The two birds were successfully captured and taken to Port District for the volunteer to retrieve.

5:30pm, received report of a commercial lobster trap in the entrance. Officers found the Hazard to Navigation and towed it back to the others off the breakwall

Friday 01/28

8:42am, dispatched to a vessel sinking in the keys. Officers responded in the Fireboat to 2700 Sailor to a small center console. The vessel was not sinking.

Saturday 01/29

10:25am, officers resecuring the rescue boathouse on the patrol dock and returning/repairing equipment damaged during the Tonga tsunami.

Sunday 01/30

1:55pm, received a mayday call on VHF 16 from a motor vessel unsure of his position. Officers responded in the Fireboat and tried to ascertain the vessels position. While searching around the breakwall, the skipper of the vessel advised he corrected the power outage and was no longer in need of assistance.

Monday 01/31

10:40pm, received report of disabled 20ft motor vessel in the entrance. Officers responded in Fireboat, towed the disabled vessel to the launch ramp.

Tuesday 02/01

6:21pm, dispatched to a fall victim in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded and assisted VFD/AMR with the patient who sustained arm and finger injuries. Patient was treated and then transported to local hospital.

 

Vol. 15, No. 09 – Jan 26 – Feb 8, 2022 – Harbor Patrol Blotter

Tuesday 01/04

5:06pm, received report, hazard to navigation in the keys. Officers responded and found a dock box submerged, removed it. Contacted a number inside and the owner advised they haven’t lived in the keys for years, placed in L&F.

Friday 01/07

11:58pm, dispatched to chest pain at the Holiday Inn. Officers responded with AMR and attempted to assist the patient but they refused medical aid.

Saturday 01/08

10:53am, received report of vessel accident at VIM L-dock. Officers responded and investigated. Disabled vessel collided with a catamaran on the endtie. Minor damage was observed and the both parties were advised of the situation.

6:56pm, dispatched to a fall victim at the Greek restaurant. Officers went and found an 60 y/o male with a laceration on his head. Patient transported by AMR

Sunday 01/09

5:30am, observed NWS issued a Small Craft Advisory. Officers raised pennants.

10:40am, received report of two overdue Standup paddlers on a long distance trip. Officers investigated, and the two SUP’ers were found safe.

11:55am, officers en route to the docks in front of the Greek restaurant to lifeguard the swim for the cross event, “the Greek epiphany.”

Monday 01/10

2:39am, dispatched to a fall victim at VWM. Officers responded and assisted a 64 y/o male that fell earlier and wanted ride to hospital, AMR transported patient

Tuesday 01/11

4:35am, dispatched to a traffic accident on Spinnaker Dr. Officers responded and found a vehicle into a light pole. No injuries, but VPD arrested driver for suspicion of driving under the influence. Edison contacted about light pole.

11:59am, received report of a subject threatening to shoot someone. Officers advised to call police. Explaining to the caller that the Harbor Patrol are “boating” officers focusing on education and are not armed police officers.

10:13pm, dispatched to an ill person with Covid 19 at one of the marinas. Officers responded and assisted AMR with the call. All precautions taken.

Wednes 01/12

8:49am, dispatched to a missing surfer at the Ventura Pier. Officers responded and found a surfboard broken in half. The surfer was eventually found onshore.

11:50pm, dispatched to a missing 50 y/o female, last scene near Harbor Cove. Officers assisted VPD with the search, the person was located 4 hours later on a commercial fishing vessel with a friend. No injuries or crimes observed.

10:57am, dispatched to an injured surfer near the Santa Clara Rivermouth. Officers responded with VFD/AMR to assist. Patrol transported patient to medics in Surfers Knoll lot. Patient transported for possible collar bone fracture

Friday 01/14

10:00am, Officers assisting VC Sheriff with their helicopter training at the end of Spinnaker Drive. They were conducting hoisting rescue operations.

Saturday 01/15

5:00am, received report of a tsunami advisory in effect for California from Tonga underwater volcanic eruption. Officers contacting marinas and receiving requests for information. Attempting to call all available officers to work.

10:50am, while searching offshore and from HQ for a missing sailboat, tragically, Rescue Boat 17, docked at the time, was inundated with an outgoing surge, capsized and sunk in the Pierpont Basin. Tow Boat US was able to raise the vessel, towed to the boatyard, hauled out where it awaits a survey of damage.

Wednes 12/22

8:15am, contacted by a surfer who locked his keys in his vehicle. Officers were able to contact roadside assistance for the individual and he gained access to car.

11:15am, observed a semitruck successfully drive over the median near the VYC

Thursday 12/23

12:48pm, dispatched to a male complaining of abdominal pain in Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded with VFD/AMR to the call.

9:08pm, officers emptied the rain gauge, it recorded 2.63 inches of rain today.

Friday 12/24

7:00am, while on patrol, officers observed Santa Clara River flowing steadily.

5:02pm, officers assisting VPD with a trespassing call at the fuel dock. A search of the docks, vessels and office was conducted but no trespasser was found.

8:27pm, monitoring VPD with a suicidal subject on Spinnaker Dr. VPD was able to convince the individual to seek help and deescalate the situation.

Saturday 12/25

9:45pm, observed a strong storm cell moving through harbor, 30kts of South wind and extreme rain fall. Power outage for a few minutes.

11:10pm, observed 0.86 inches of rain in the gauge from yesterday and recently.

Sunday 12/26

11:33am, dispatched to cardiac/respiratory arrest on a vessel in VWM B-dock. Officers responded by and assisted VFD, VPD and AMR with the call. The patient was deceased for some time, resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

4:30pm, received request for assistance from TowBoat US with removing a sinking panga towed from Goleta. The vessel was placed on a trailer.

Tuesday 12/28

5:40am, observed the National Weather Service issued a Small Craft Advisory for Northwest winds gusting to 25kts later. Officers raised warning pennants.

3:31pm, received report of personal watercraft operating recklessly near Seaward. Officers met with the operators at the launch ramp and issued warnings for violations and educated on ordinances and state laws.

Wednes 12/29

7:25pm, received report of two commercial fishing vessels listing and or sitting low in the water. Officers investigated and found the vessels as reported. The owners were contacted and mitigated the issues.
Thursday 12/30 8:34am, dispatched to Holiday Inn for a fire alarm. Officers responded with VFD and determined the call was false after investigation.

11:33am, observing high flow of murky water from the barranca with debris.

9:30pm, dispatched to a medical in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded with VFD/AMR to assist a patient with her Oxygen generator.

Friday 12/31

12:23pm, while on patrol in Rescue B17, observed 3 novice kayakers impede & force a large crew boat to take evasive maneuvers operating in the main channel of the harbor. Officers contacted the group, educated them of “rule-of-tonnage.”

Saturday 1/1/22

8:00pm, received report of a sailboat that sank in its slip at VWM D-dock. Officers responded, determined no hazards, advised TowBoat US & Marina.

10:50pm, dispatched to an assault at 1583 Spinnaker Dr. Officers responded and assisted VFD, AMR and VPD with a family dispute. Eventually the revelers were able to calm down, get a ride home. A lot of alcohol involved, no medical.

Sunday 1/2/22

1:50pm, received report of broken dock at “Big Beach” in the keys. Officers investigated, found that the dock is city property and advised them of the issue.

9:30pm, dispatched to a sick person in Portside apartments. Officers responded and assisted VFD/AMR with the call. Patient transported to local hospital.

Monday 1/3/22

4:33am, while on patrol, observed 13 semi-trucks on Spinnaker waiting 4 squid.

Wednes 12/08

4:23pm, dispatched to an offshore Search & Rescue for missing fisherman from the commercial boat John Start. Officers responded in the Fireboat and Rescue B17 with multiple agencies to aid in the search. Search patterns were conducted for five hours in the Santa Barbara Channel along with USCG vessels/aircraft & TowBoat US. Sadly, and with heavy hearts, only his vessel was found and he is still missing. Tran was one of the longest tenants of Ventura Harbor, beloved by everyone, he always made the effort to say hello, shake your hand with a huge smile. Fishing, years ago, Tran rescued a former Ventura HP officers’ father in an outrigger canoe accident.

Thursday 12/09

12:30pm, officers assisting the family of Vuong Tran tow his vessel the John Start to be offloaded at the VHV fuel pier and then returned to its slip in VHV.

Friday 12/10

7:36pm, received a report of a vessel hoop netting at the breakwall without navigation lights. Officers responded in Rescue B17, educated operator.

Saturday 12/11

10:05am, received a complaint from a fisherman about another fisherman placing his hoop nets illegally too close to the breakwall. Officers investigated and educated the individual about harbor ordinance on legal placement of traps.

Sunday 12/12

1:15am, dispatched to Ventura Marina Community for female complaining of difficulty breathing. Officers responded and assisted VFD/AMR with call.

8:20am, received report of an alarm sounding on a vessel in Portside F-dock. Officers responded, no issues noted. Owner notified, en route to secure alarm.

Monday 12/13

12:30pm, received request from CIMWI (CI marine wildlife institute) to assist in capture of emaciated sea lion at Harbor Cove. Officers assisted and were successful in capturing the mammal so that it can be rehabilitated.
Wednes 12/15 12:49am, dispatched to an Ocean Rescue at VHV D-dock, 26 y/o male fell overboard from a Commercial Fishing vessel. Officers responded and found the individual intoxicated and hypothermic from water immersion. He refused care.

12:04pm, received a report of an individual harassing sea lions at VIM. Officers investigated, contacted the disturbing party; no evidence of harassment found.

Thursday 12/16

10:20am, contacted a male with three labs off leash at Harbor Cove. Educated the individual about leash law and to please be in control of his dogs due to numerous complaints about the issue.

Friday 12/17

4:15pm, officers preparing for the 2021 Parade of lights, setting turning buoys and answering numerous inquiries about the event.

5:30pm, officers monitoring the parade of lights from patrol vessels and vehicle. Several warnings for safety violations issued to vessels watching the parade.

Saturday 12/18

12:50pm, officers attended the memorial for lost fisherman from the John Start.

1:15pm, officers in fireboat lead a procession of vessels for the lost fisherman.

5:05pm, officers preparing for the second night of the Parade-of-lights. Setting the turn buoys and receiving assignments for the evening.

10:54pm, dispatched to a traffic accident at 1901 Spinnaker Dr. Officers responded and assisted VPD/VFD with the accident. No injuries occurred.

Sunday 12/19

11:02am, dispatched to a stroke victim in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded and assisted VFD/AMR with female patient.

Monday 12/20

6:37am, dispatched to a fall victim in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded and assisted the 72 y/o male back to his bed, he refused treatment.
