Ventura Townehouse Resident to Celebrate 103rd Birthday

By Carol Leish, MA –

The Ventura Townehouse invites the community to join Mary Alice and her family in celebrating her 103rd birthday.

Mary Alice has lived at the Townehouse since 2016. She first resided in an independent living apartment before transitioning to Memory Care in 2021, where she now receives additional support.

“She was born in Chula Vista, in San Diego County, in 1922,” said her daughter, Lynn Kempton. “She attended schools in National City. In high school, she was a ballerina, since ballet was a provided sport. She sang with her high school choral group, her church choir as a soprano, and with the Chula Vista Junior Women’s Club choral group. She also enjoyed playing the piano, knitting, crocheting and playing bridge into adulthood.”

After graduating from high school, Mary Alice worked as a switchboard operator for the telephone company and later for several large companies across Southern California. While employed at the Rohr Aircraft Company in Chula Vista, she met her husband, who worked as a machinist and later as a buyer for the company.

Mary Alice has a son who now lives in New York state and another daughter who lives in Orange County, California. She is also the proud grandmother of nine, great-grandmother of 21, and great-great-grandmother of two.

“After my dad died, my mom married two more times,” Kempton said. “She and her third husband lived in a senior community in San Diego County. After being widowed for the third time, she decided to move to Ventura. She chose the Townehouse after visiting several other options and enjoyed participating in many of the activities and outings. The Townehouse has been a wonderful home for my mom for almost 10 years. The Memory Care and Assisted Hospice teams have been, and continue to be, terrific caregivers for her.”

The community is invited to celebrate Mary Alice’s milestone birthday on Friday, Oct. 17, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Ventura Townehouse. Your presence will be the best gift for Mary Alice as she turns 103 years young.
