Volunteers across California will come together Saturday, Sept. 19, for the 42nd annual California Coastal Cleanup Day, helping remove trash and plastic pollution from beaches, rivers and inland waterways.
The statewide cleanup will take place from 9 am – noon, with sites throughout California. Ventura County is among the communities participating in the annual effort.
Coastal Cleanup Day is one of California’s largest annual volunteer events and gives residents an opportunity to help protect wildlife, waterways and coastal habitats while collecting information about the types of debris found in the environment.
Volunteers can find a cleanup site through the California Coastal Commission’s online map. Some locations require advance registration, while others allow drop-in participation. Participants are also asked to complete a liability waiver.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring reusable gloves, a bucket or bag, and a refillable water bottle. Cleanup supplies and waivers will also be available at sites for those who need them. Closed-toe shoes, sunscreen and clothing appropriate for changing outdoor conditions are recommended.
