Ventura Breeze Ethics and Corrections Policy

The Ventura Breeze is committed to providing accurate, fair, and responsible journalism that serves our community. We follow the principles of the Society of Professional Journalists’ Code of Ethics, which emphasizes four core values:

  • Seek Truth and Report It. We strive to report news accurately, fairly, and honestly. We verify information whenever possible and present it in context.
  • Minimize Harm. We treat everyone we write about with respect and recognize that our reporting can affect individuals and the community.
  • Act Independently. Our primary responsibility is to our readers. Editorial decisions are made independently and in the public interest.
  • Be Accountable and Transparent. We take responsibility for our work, welcome feedback, and correct mistakes promptly.

Corrections Policy

Despite our best efforts, errors can occasionally occur. When a factual error is brought to our attention, we investigate it promptly.

If an error is confirmed:

  • The online version of the story will be corrected as soon as possible, with a note explaining the correction when appropriate.
  • If the error appeared in the print edition, a correction or clarification will be published in the next available issue.

Our corrections policy applies to factual inaccuracies. Differences of opinion, interpretations, or viewpoints expressed in opinion columns or letters to the editor are not considered factual errors. We encourage readers with differing perspectives to submit a Letter to the Editor for publication, subject to our editorial guidelines.

We value the trust of our readers and believe that transparency, accountability, and a willingness to correct mistakes are essential to maintaining that trust.

To report a correction or request a clarification, please contact the Ventura Breeze editorial staff at editor@venturabreeze.com or call 805-653-0791.
