These include the former Avenue School and Washington School sites
The Ventura Unified School District will hold a Town Hall Meeting to provide the community with updates and gather feedback on the future of two district surplus properties: the former Avenue School (2647 N. Ventura Ave.) and the former Washington School (96 MacMillan Ave.).
The Town Hall will take place on Monday, October 7, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Ventura High School Auditorium, 2 North Catalina Street, Ventura.
This Town Hall will be held as a Special Board Meeting to comply with the Brown Act. The meeting will begin with a community presentation providing updates on VUSD’s goals for these properties, the opening of the Request for Proposals (RFP) process, and possible alternative uses for both sites. Following the presentation, the public will have the opportunity to provide comments, ideas, and concerns. To ensure that everyone has a chance to speak, public comments may be limited to less than three minutes contingent upon the number of requests.
The event will be recorded and shared with the community following the meeting.
“This is an important opportunity for our community to learn about the District’s process and help shape the future of these sites,” said Dr. Antonio Castro, Superintendent.
“Gathering input from our community to help inform the Board of Education about the wants and needs of our families, students, staff and the larger community is a vital part of this process. We want to ensure that every voice has the opportunity to be heard. For those unable to attend in person, we will provide an online option for feedback following the event,” stated Marieanne Quiroz, Public Information Officer.
