Wednesday
March 5
5:55am, observed NOAA issued a Small Craft Advisory, raising a warning pennant.
6:23am, dispatched medical in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded with AMR/VFD to assist with assessment and treatment.
4:44pm, dispatched to medical in the Portside complex. Officers responded with AMR/VFD to assist with patient assessment and treatment.
8:01pm, received a request for an overnight slip from the captain of a 38ft vessel. Officers were able to secure a slip in the VHV C-dock for the skipper.
Thursday
March 6
5:58am, again observed Small Craft Advisory up, warning pennant also up.
4:05pm, new officers practicing close quarters maneuvering in and out of slips with the Fireboat in Small Craft conditions throughout the harbor.
Friday
March 7
5:51am, Northwest winds still at SCA levels, warning pennant is still raised.
8:20am, observed low coolant in the Fireboat’s Port engine. Officers trouble- shooting possible causes. Determined a failed gasket, contacting the mechanic.
10:26am, dispatched to medical in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded with AMR/VFD to assist with patient treatment and assessment.
7:30pm, received a report of a water leak at VHV E-dock. Officers investigated and found the leak as reported. It was mitigated and maintenance advised.
Saturday
March 8
8:00am, officers assisting with lifeguarding State Parks requalification swim for returning guards and tryout for news candidates. The Harbor watch boat will be utilized to assist with monitoring the swim at tower 4, San Pedro.
2:20pm, new officers taking portions of USCG captains license test at District.
3:59pm, dispatched to public-assist, child and keys locked in vehicle at the village. Officers responded with VFD to assist with gaining access.
Sunday
March 9
7:31am, received a report of a transient sleeping in one of the stairwells. Officers responded and found the individual, moved to another area of the complex.
8:30am, conducting a swim test for Harbor Patrol Officers candidates in the Pierpont Basin. The test consists of a 500-meter swim in under 10 minutes.
12:32pm, received a request to assist Manson Dredge to conduct traffic control while they moved the H.R. Morris to the sandtrap to begin maintenance dredging.
4:03pm, received request to conduct traffic control / close harbor so that Manson can “sink” the dredge pipe across the main channel. Fireboat and HW5 assisted.
5:35pm, observed two separate electric boats disabled while on patrol in HW5. Officers towed the vessels to both rental-dock then a house in the keys.
Monday
March 10
5:40am, observed SCA issued for southeast winds later tonight, raised the pennant.
10:10am, dispatched to a cybertruck in the water at the launch ramp. Officers responded and worked with various agencies to remove the vehicle.
6:15pm, received a request to assist in rescuing a sick Pelican. Officers responded with bird rescue volunteers to Santa Clara Rivermouth. On scene, pelican is 100 yards from shore in the estuary. Responders donned waders/boots to execute the rescue, experienced equipment failure: water intrusion after chasing the bird up to their chests. The sick bird was eventually captured, taken for rehabilitation.
