The Ventura Harbor Patrol were dispatched to thirty-two 911 calls during the month of June. These calls included both responses on land and water. Several of the calls were Ocean Rescue dispatches in the Ventura area but also included landside medical calls, fuel spills, traffic accident, fire alarms, and an elevator rescue.
Saturday 6/6
Harbor Patrol Officers received a report via the marine radio of a 34ft trawler disabled in front of yacht club. Vessel confirms they are stable with no threat of danger or damage. Once on scene vessel was towed Ventura West Marina via FB1.
Saturday 6/6 – Saturday 6/13
The Department participated in eight days of Marine Firefighting training exercises with the Ventura City Fire Department which included fire suppression drills combining water-side fire attack tactics from the Port District’s Fireboat with landside attack strategies from City Fire Department’s Trucks and Engines.
Tuesday 6/2 – Thursday 6/25
Officers responded to investigate fuel in the A basin seven times. Harbor Patrol staff were unable to identify the source and no witnesses were present at time of discharge. Reports made to National Response Center, and by extension to USCG and DFW.
Saturday 6/20
Officers responded to a flare sighting, called in from the Crown Plaza. Investigated but nothing found. The local coastal waters were clear and there were no associated distress calls noted by the Harbor Patrol or US Coast Guard.
Sunday 6/21
Received a report of a disabled vessel who was not a member of a commercial tow service. Harbor Patrol Officers responded and provided assistance to a 28’ disabled Chris Craft. The vessel and its occupants were safely delivered back to their slip in the Ventura Yacht Club.
Wednesday 6/24 – Thursday 6/25
Ventura Harbor Patrol Staff continues to support Cal State Long Beach Shark Lab Research in the Ventura area. Harbor Patrol Staff routinely monitor our local coastline for aggregation sites and transiting sharks. Bi-Monthly in the peak season March through November the Harbor Patrol Staff transport CSULB Shark Lab staff to locations off the Ventura Coastline to deploy and collect data from sensors.
Friday 6/26
Harbor Patrol Officer while on routine Marine Safety Patrol outside the harbor observed a disabled vessel dragging anchor 10 yards from the Schoolhouse Jetty in Pierpont. Harbor Patrol Officers quickly responded and secured a line to the vessel preventing it from drifting into the rocks and nearby surfline. Once safely outside of danger the Harbor Patrol Tow was handed over to vessel assist at the harbor entrance.
Saturday 6/27
Received a call from a distressed mariner on a 30 ft sail boat, disabled and heading towards a yacht at the end of isle marina. Advised mariner to drop anchor and dawn PFD. Took vessel into tow via FB1 and delivered to slip in Ventura Isle Marina.
