On Tuesday, April 29, the Ventura County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a major step forward in community animal care, voting to support the creation of the new Ventura County Community Mobile Spay/Neuter Program with Ventura County Animal Services.
Thanks to the partnership and support of the Animal Services Foundation of Ventura County, Ventura County Animal Services will receive a fully outfitted mobile veterinary trailer valued at approximately $250,000. Additionally, a generous $1.7 million donation will fund four new veterinary positions for three years: one Veterinarian, one Registered Veterinary Technician, and two Veterinary Assistants. These team members will staff the mobile unit, providing spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations, and basic veterinary care directly in the community.
“By approving this important program, our Board is taking action to strengthen public health, protect animals, and build stronger neighborhoods,” said 4th District Supervisor Janice Parvin, Chair of the Board of Supervisors. “This initiative reflects our commitment to serving all communities across Ventura County and making a real, lasting difference for both people and pets.”
VCAS has identified the critical need for more accessible, low-cost spay/neuter services across Ventura County, especially in communities that have historically had fewer options. By bringing these services directly to neighborhoods, the mobile program will help reduce pet overpopulation, lower shelter intake numbers, and improve animal health. It will also make it easier for families to access basic veterinary care, supporting both healthier pets and healthier communities. Over time, it is expected that the program will contribute to lowering costs associated with shelter operations.
“The launch of our mobile spay and neuter clinic is a tremendous step forward for Ventura County,” stated Esteban Rodriguez, Director of Ventura County Animal Services. “This initiative brings essential veterinary services directly to underserved areas, helping us reduce pet overpopulation and improve animal welfare across the region. By meeting people where they are, we’re removing barriers to access and ensuring more pets receive the care they need. We are deeply grateful to the VCAS Foundation for providing the funding to make this possible, and to the Ventura County Board of Supervisors for their unanimous support in approving this important effort.”
