CAPS Hosts The Mix! for Chamber Members

Recently CAPS hosted the Ventura Chamber of Commerce members for The Mix! Dozens of chamber members explored the creative and production resources and expertise available at the center, enjoying tours that included hands-on demonstrations in the production soundstage, control room, KPPQ Radio station, community conference and zoom room, mobile production truck and more.

The Mix! guests met CAPS crew and board members and learned first-hand what CAPS has to offer the public and business community. Various chamber members offered free raffle prizes for those attending, including a certificate from CAPS for a video production. For many chamber members The Mix! was the first time visiting the CAPS Media Center and they expect to return on the first Monday of the month for a more in-depth CAPS orientation.

This summer CAPS’ popular Future Filmmakers Workshops returns with two week-long programs for students ages 10-14. Week one is a Live Action Video Workshop July 14-18. The second week is a Stop Motion Animation Workshop, July 28-August 1. The hands-on experience is guided by experienced CAPS crew members. The fun filled weeks with enthusiastic crews collaborating in teams of four or five to create their own video productions. The fast paced and engaging creative programs features hands-on, experiential learning in all aspects of media storytelling including story development, scripting, casting, staging, directing, camera training with HD camcorders and smartphones, video composition, lighting, remote and in-studio production, graphic design, editing and more.

Each session runs Monday – Friday, from 8:30am to 1:00pm at the CAPS Media Center. The program fee is $250 for the week and includes 5, 4-hour sessions, a one-year family membership at CAPS, a CAPS Crew Member shirt, graduation certificate and a special evening film festival for friends and family.

There’s more summer creativity at CAPS when the KPPQ CAPS Radio Crew launches the first POD Save the Summer Podcasting Workshop for high school students. The weeklong session runs June 23 – 27, from 9:30am to 2:00pm in the KPPQ studio at the CAPS Media Center. The fee is $150. 2025 year marks a major milestone in Ventura as CAPS celebrates 25 Years of providing creative services Ventura. In addition to managing hundreds of productions, meetings and events for the city, and managing the community’s public access stations, over the past 25 years the CAPS staff members have trained hundreds of Venturans in storytelling, video production, editing and more, empowering CAPS members to create their own programs.
2025 also marks the 8-year anniversary of CAPS KPPQ Radio with hosts delivering hundreds of hours of award-winning original and specially curated programming and entertainment for Venturans and a worldwide audience of listeners. Later this year the CAPS Team will host a special open house at the CAPS Media Center to celebrate these milestones.
