Harbor Patrol Blotter

Wednesday 3/18

4:31am, dispatched to chest pain in the Ventura Yacht Club.  Officers responded with AMR/VFD to assist with patient treatment and assessment.

11:46am, received request to secure a vessel to the Districts longdock.  After interviewing the individual, it was determined that the motor vessel is inoperable.  Advised the long dock is for emergencies, not for berthing.

1:30pm, received request for a tow of a disabled 24ft sailboat near the harbor entrance.  Officers responded in Rescue Boat 19, towed boat to VWM D-dock.

3:30pm, dispatched to dislocated shoulder at South Beach.  Officers responded with AMR/VFD to assist with patient treatment and assessment.

9:50pm, discovered an abandoned 19ft lake boat at the launch ramp.  Officers towed the vessel to impound, beginning search for the owner.

Thursday 3/19

10:00am, received report of an injured or sick sea bird at the launch ramp.  Officers responded with rescue personnel to search for the bird, but UTL.

2:30pm, dispatched to TC Heavy Rescue eastbound on Spinnaker Dr just past Surfers Knoll, vehicle into fence 2 persons trapped.  VFD was able to extract the pair, no injuries to either one and Ventura PD took over the investigation.

4:06pm, observed a “E-foiler” in the Pierpont basin.  Contacted and attempted to educate the individual on ordinances, but he left before contact was complete.

Friday 3/20

7:30am, officers presenting harbor patrol opportunities to elementary school.

9:30am, officers conducting Emergency Medical Technician recertification training at the Ventura Port District.  Continuing education and skills testing.

Saturday

3/21 10:20am, officers in both Fireboat and Rescue Boat 19 to attend Ventura Harbor Patrol Officer Erik Bear’s paddle-out memorial at Silver Strand Beach.

3:25pm, received report of a bird trapped in harbor mart at the Portside.  Officers were able to assist the bird out of the market without issue.

5:45pm, observed the derelict boat at the long dock, unsecured and adrift in the Pierpont Basin.  Officers were able to take the vessel en tow back to longdock.

6:31pm, received report of a petroleum spill in the South Basin, D-dock.  Officers searched but were unable to locate a sheen or any petroleum product.

Sunday 3/22

10:15am, observing numerous earthquakes in the Pacific Ocean over the past 72 hours.  Will keep observing the situation for tsunami warnings or watches.

11:20am, officers completed Rescuewater craft over-haul.  The impellor was replaced and general engine maintenance was performed.

4:15pm, received report of PWCs’ operating in the surfline at Marina Park, a speed restricted area.  Officers responded in Fireboat, educated the operators.

8:27pm, dispatched to gas leak in Portside complex.  Officers responded with VFD and assisted with searching for the source.

Monday 3/23

10:05pm, while locking gates and restrooms at Harbor Cove, received a request for a jumpstart.  Officers utilized jumppack to start the vehicle.

Tuesday 3/24

6:09am, received reports of large magnitude earthquakes in Tonga and Alaska.  Researching tsunami warning websites for updated info, no warnings issued.
