Tuesday 11/25
7:30am, while on patrol in truck officers found a camp site south of Surfers Knoll. Issued verbal warning for the violation and extinguished campfire.
12:45pm, observed a group of children swimming in a dangerous area. Officers contacted group, issued safety contact, educating on rip currents.
Wednes 11/26
12:50pm, observed commercial tender disabled. Took the vessel en tow with Rescue B19 to their slip in the village.
9:47pm, received request to check the wellness of a VWM D-dock tenant from a neighbor. Officers responded, found situation as reported, bilge constantly on lights and TV also on. After brief investigation, were able to wake up the individual and have him turn off his generator that was constantly pumping.
Thursday 11/27
8:00am, Happy Holidays! Officers enjoyed a beautiful uneventful day.
10:00am, officers conducting various trainings, including ocean rescue, Emergency Medical Technician and US coastguard captain’s license.
Friday 11/28
10:45am, officers returning “found” commercial lobster traps to owners. Traps were found in various places, mainly near the South Jetty.
1:30pm, received request for assistance from a 30ft sailboat with a line wrapped in their prop. Officers responded in Fireboat 1 to assist with anchoring and dropping sails. Patrol stood by until Towboat US arrived to take over tow.
4:26pm, observed a thick fogbank move in, officers activated the fog signal.
7:05pm, observed multiple illegally placed hoop nets on the outside of the breakwall. Officers began confiscating nets, until owners came to claim them. Issued several warnings for the violations, educated legal areas to set them.
7:25pm, receiving complaints from hoop net fishermen that the divers are near their nets. A lil later receiving complaints from divers that hoop net fishermen are harassing them while they are legally diving the breakwall. Officers attempting to get all parties to “just get along” and share the breakwall.
Saturday 11/29
1:52pm, dispatched to sick person in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded with AMR to assist with patient treatment and assessment.
6:23pm, received request for parking information from commercial fisherman. Officers assisted with information on parking lot repair, where to park.
6:57pm, dispatched to 1651 Anchors Way Dr for a gas leak. Officers responded and assisted VFD with searching for the leak. No leak found, all units cleared.
Sunday 11/30
12:57pm, while on patrol in the truck, observed a bonfire south of Surfers Knoll smoldering. Officers extinguished the fire, picked up multiple cans/bottles.
5:50pm, received request for a tow from the skipper of a 14ft aluminum skiff disabled near Pierpont. Officers responded, found the small craft in the darkness and safely towed it to the launch ramp for retrieval.
Monday 12/1
9:40am, received request to remove rainwater from a vessel’s cuddy cabin at the launch ramp. Officers were able to dewater the vessel with pumps.
7:41pm, dispatched to capsized vessel at South Jetty. Officers responded in the Fireboat, searched but were unable to find it. The vessel had wrapped a prop from a hoop net line, then a wave capsized it. Hoop netters swam to shore.
Tuesday 12/2
6:30am, while on patrol in the vehicle, officers searching for vessel that capsized last night, unable to locate anything associated with the boating accident.
9:30am, officers standing by at the pier with State Parks monitoring large surf, ensuring surfers don’t go through the pier in the strong longshore current.
Wednes 12/3
12:10am, officers participating in Rescue Watercraft training with State Parks lifeguards near the Ventura Pier.
4:50pm, attempting to remove recreational hoop nets in the harbor entrance. All attempts failed, lines parted before the nets came to the surface.
Thursday 12/4
6:05am, observed NOAA issued Small Craft Advisory, raised warning pennant.
10:05am, while on patrol in the truck, observed several opportunities for safety contacts throughout South Beach and Surfers Knoll for rip current information.
2:35pm, observed a dinghy near the patrol dock, disabled. Officers responded in the Fireboat, towed the small vessel to its slip in the keys.
4:26pm, dispatched to a seizure in the parking lot of VWM. Officers responded with VFD/AMR to assist with patient treatment and assessment.
Friday 12/5
12:05am, dispatched to a fire near the harbor entrance feature. Officers responded with VFD to investigate. Found a homeless person with a warming fire. Engine two extinguished the fire, moved homeless person along.
7:30am, while on patrol in the truck, observed a homeless encampment structure made of drift wood still smoldering in the Arrundo. Officers extinguished and “mopped-up” the burning embers, ensured the fire was put out.
Saturday 12/6
2:36pm, dispatched to an ocean rescue at the Ventura Pier. Officers responded in Rescue Boat 19, found an intoxicated male 300 yards offshore. The victim was taken onboard until State Parks Lifeguards arrived and swam him to shore.
7:55pm, dispatched to traffic accident on Harbor Blvd. Officers responded with VFD/AMR to assist, VPD advising that the accident is non injury, cancelling.
9:52pm, dispatched to breathing problems in Portside complex. Officers responded with AMR/VFD to assist with patient treatment and assessment.
Sunday 12/7
11:48am, dispatched to abdominal pain on a vessel in VWM B-dock. Officers responded with VFD/AMR to assist with patient treatment and assessment.
6:31pm, dispatched to an anxiety attack in the Portside complex. Officers responded with AMR/VFD to assist with patient assessment.
Monday 12/8
6:15am, observed a 7.6 magnitude earthquake off Japan. After some research, found no risk of tsunami for the West Coast.
8:25pm, dispatched to a sick person in the Holiday Inn Express. Officers responded with VFD/AMR to assist with patient treatment and assessment.
