Tuesday 10/14

  • 5:26am, observed NOAA issued a Gale Warning for severe thunderstorms.
  • 1:11pm, assisting Tow Boat US with a recliner that came down the barranca during rainstorm.  Towing from entrance, removing at the launch ramp.

Wednesday 10/15

  • 8:00am, participating in USLA rescue watercraft class at Harbor Cove.
  • 5:41pm, received request for directions to a head pumpout in the harbor from skipper of sailboat.  Officers escorted the vessel to the VIM N-dock pump.

Thursday 10/16

  • 7:30am, while on patrol in the truck, observed the Santa Clara Rivermouth breech broke open sometime last night, emptying the estuary.
  • 11:58am, on patrol Boat 19, observed then removed a hazard to navigation, a large log, at the harbor entrance and towed to the rivermouth for disposal.

Friday 10/17

  • 9:00am, officers working on attaching “Spurs” to shafts of Rescue Boat 19 for safer nighttime operation while enforcing harbor ordinance for hoop netting.
  • 8:33pm, received report of a commercial skiff disabled and secured to the launch ramp dock.  Officers responded in Fireboat 1, towed the vessel to mothership.

Saturday 10/18

  • 3:10pm, dispatched to a boat fire at CI harbor fuel dock.  Officers responded in Fireboat to Channel Islands Harbor.  FB1 was able to assist VCFD & CI harbor patrol with extinguishing the 35ft power boat that was fully involved.  After fire was out, officers assisted with the overhaul and dewatering of the vessel.
  • 7:10pm, dispatched to ocean rescue off Pierpont, officers responded in the Fireboat to assist with search for a Standup Paddler.  After searching Pierpont Basin to Surfers Point, call was cancelled, individual was found on the beach.
  • 11:59pm, dispatched to overdose Harbor Town point docks.  Officers responded with VFD/AMR to assist with patient treatment and assessment.

Sunday 10/19

  • 3:03pm, received request for assistance at the detached breakwall.  Officers responded in the Fireboat, searched the area, but unable to find vessel in distress.
  • 5:13pm, received request for a tow from skipper of a disabled electric boat in the keys.  Officers responded in the Fireboat, towed the vessel to their slip in keys.
  • 6:20pm, received dispatch to a suicidal person swimming a mile off the Ventura Pier.  Tow Boat US pulled the individual from the water and was transporting him back to harbor for evaluation.  Ventura PD took over the investigation.

Monday 10/20

  • 5:11am, received report of an unconscious person in a vehicle near island packers in the village.  Officers talked the reporting party through knocking on the window to wake the individual.  The fisherman begrudgingly woke up.

Tuesday 10/21

  • 9:00am, officers conducting training with Dockmasters and gate company for the new dry storage area on Harbor/Schooner with scenarios; power outages etc.
  • 1:48pm, observed NOAA issued Small Craft Advisory, raised warning pennant.
  • 2:01pm, officers informing Dockmasters and Island Packers of the planned oil boom drill in the main channel of the harbor tomorrow.
