Harbor Patrol Blotter

Tuesday 9/9   

5:56am, observed NOAA issued Small Craft Advisory for 25kts of wind in western portion of Santa Barbara channel, raised warning pennant at District.

1:50pm, observed a large firepit at Surfers Knoll with a lot of cans deposited in it.  Officers cleaned up the pit, filled two trash bags of cans, another with debris.

9:15pm, observed an individual slumped over the steering wheel in Harbor Cove Lot.  Officers were able to wake up the individual without any medical issues.

Wednes 9/10

5:30am, Small Craft Advisory still in effect, warning pennant still raised.

5:22pm, dispatched to medical/neck pain in the Ventura Marina Community.  Officers responded with AMR/VFD to assist with patient assessment.

8:23pm, received report from USCG of 35ft double masted sailboat potentially taking on water and en route to Ventura Harbor.  Officers began investigation.

Thursday 9/11

6:00am, officers raising colors to half mast to honor victims of the tragedy.

7:39am, received report of an individual in a wheelchair attempting to break into a vehicle at the launch ramp.  Officers advised caller to hang up and call 911.

4:40pm, while on patrol in vehicle, observed a transient with a dock cart with the vessel it belongs to painted on the side.  Officers convinced the individual to return the cart, escorting till the individual stopped and took off.  While grabbing the cart to return it, 4 other transients were in the area, apparently waiting for it.

Friday 9/12 

9:30am, while on patrol in FB1, observed a petroleum sheen in the commercial docks.  Officers investigating found a suspected fishing vessel with signs of cleaning decks and hulls but no “smoking-gun” to link the pollution to the vessel.  Educated the crew about the serious fines associated with the violation.

12:18pm, received a complaint from diver/bottom cleaner about an individual chasing sealions off docks.  The diver was concerned the sealions would go after him.  Advised officers would investigate, but to be aware that owners of vessels or docks that are in danger of being damaged by sealions have the right  to deter the nuisance mammals.  Info:  “NOAA Fisheries: Potential Deterring”

6:14pm, dispatched to Ocean Rescue, 3 swimmers caught in a rip current at Surfers Knoll.  Officers responded in Fireboat, deployed rescue swimmer who was able to swim the group to shore.  Medics assessed, released to parents.

Saturday 9/13 

9:45am, Ventura harbor marina tenant activated 911 dispatch for a miscommunication with dispatcher over a set of expired flares.  Ventura Fire responders were able to take possession of the flares and ensure no fire.

12:35pm, dispatched to traumatic injuries at Surfers Knoll.  Officers responded with multiple agencies and assisted with patient treatment and assessment.

Sunday 9/14 

7:23am, received report of a surfboard floating near Harbor Cove.  Officers  found a “Wavestorm” with catastrophic buckle, has been on beach all week.

11:50am, officers conducting maintenance on Fireboat.  Diving, sea trials, etc.

Monday 9/15 

11:04am, dispatched to traumatic injury at Ventura Boatyard.  Officers responded with VFD/AMR to assist with patient treatment and assessment.

3:55pm, received report of a detached boat trailer in the water at launch ramp.
