Harbor Patrol Blotter

Wednes 7/23 

  • 1:19pm, dispatched to a fall patient at Marina Park.  Officers responded in Fireboat to assist VFD with patient assessment and treatment.
  • 6:54pm, received a compliment from a boater using the new wash down, new docks at the launch ramp.  He thanked Port District and staff for improvements.

Thursday 7/24

  • 2:10pm, received report of a personal watercraft aground at Surfers Point.  Officers responded, found the vessel, determined they ran-out-of gas. No assistance needed, passed on Tow Boat US contact info.
  • 5:30pm, received report of a suspicious person in VIM parking lot.  Officers advised the RP to contact Ventura PD for law enforcement calls.

Friday 7/25 

  • 6:01am, observed NOAA issued a Small Craft Advisory for strong winds in the Western portion of the SB channel.  Officers raised warning pennant.
  • 6:20pm, observed a small sailboat outside the harbor capsized, skipper unable to right the vessel in strong winds.  Officers responded in Fireboat to assist.  Upon arriving on scene, the young skipper was able to “right” the vessel on his own.

Saturday 7/26

  • 6:37am, observed NOAA issued a Small Craft Advisory for winds gusting to 25kts in the western portion of Santa Barbara Channel later today.
  • 7:50pm, received a report of a disturbance at a restaurant in the village.  Officers responded with Ventura PD to assist with the call.

Sunday 7/27

  • 6:40am, again western portion of the channel plagued with strong winds, warning pennant still raised at Port District.
  • 5:56pm, received request from the skipper of a 33ft sailboat with mechanical failure asking for an escort to the vessels slip in VWM C-dock.  Officers responded in Fireboat to assist with an escort.  Vessel safely returned to slip.
  • 11:53pm, dispatched to breathing problems at the Holiday Inn Express.  Officers responded with VFD to assist with patient treatment and assessment.

Monday 7/28

  • 6:33am, observed the western portion winds continue, the warning pennant up and Small Craft Advisory lights still illuminated.
  • 12:45pm, received report that a transient was in the restroom for the last 3 hours.  Officers responded to check the wellness of the individual.  The patient was found alert and oriented, no medical issues.  Person asked to leave if finished.

Tuesday 7/29

  • 4:57pm, received a report of a snake in the parking lot near the Le Petit restaurant.  Advised the RP to contact animal control or Fire Department because Harbor Patrol not equipped to deal with wild animals.
  • 5:05pm, received a wellness check on an individual aboard a vessel in the Ventura Yacht Club.  Officers responded and found the person … “well.”
  • 5:25pm, observed multiple magnitude 8 earthquakes off of Russia, causing tsunami warnings for Hawaii and West Coast.  Patrol officers preparing for the estimated time of arrival at 12am by receiving numerous calls from concerned citizens, moving patrol boats to safer areas in the harbor, monitoring websites such as tsunami.gov / VCemergency.com, assisting boat owners find slips in safer areas in preparation for the possible tsunami event.
