Harbor Patrol Blotter

Wednes 11/5

3:15pm, report of a fuel leak from a vessel at Portside.  Officers responded and monitored mechanic to ensure no pollution from the work.

5:00pm, participating in Ocean Rescue training at South Jetty with Ventura Fire.  Officers assisting ocean rescue techniques for bringing victims onto the Fireboat.

Thursday 11/6

6:01am, observed NOAA issued Small Craft Advisory, raised warning pennant.

9:35am, dispatched to a fall patient in the Portside complex.  Officers responded with VFD/AMR to assist with patient assessment and treatment.

4:33pm, while on patrol in the Fireboat, officers observed several commercial lobster traps near the #2 navigation buoy.  Attempting to identity and advise owners to move the traps to legal area for fishing.

Friday 11/7

7:20am, received report of several commercial traps in the entrance of the harbor.  Officers aboard the Harborwatch were able to relocate 10 traps.

The large swell has moved the traps from outside the breakwall to entrance.

5:29pm, received reports of several commercial lobster traps on the beach at Harbor Cove.  Officers investigated, found traps, attempting to contact owners.

Saturday 11/8

8:01am, received report of commercial trap in the surfline near South Jetty.  Investigated, found several buoys tangled, most likely several traps in area.  Deemed the traps unrecoverable at this time.  Will contact commercial fleet.

1:21pm, dispatched to a fall victim near Andria’s seafood.  Officers responded with VFD/AMR to assist with patient treatment and assessment.

5:45pm, participating in Ocean Rescue training with local Fire agencies at Surfers Knoll.  Officers responded in Fireboat to assist with lifeguard training.

10:15pm, while on patrol in truck, observed fireworks and two large bonfires at Surfers Knoll.  Officers extinguished the fires and removed several youths from the beach parking lot and beach.

Sunday 11/9

9:06am, officers replacing buoys for Rescue Boat 19’s docking area at the patrol dock.  Earlier in the week, officers investigating an oil spill outside the harbor  and a lot of oil got on the hull.  The docking buoys were soiled and needed replacing.  RB19 was hauled out so the oil could be removed from the hull.

4:52pm, while on patrol in the Fireboat, observed green laser light from Portside illuminating VWM and Safe Harbor marinas.  The laser is supposed to hit the Portside roofs to deter seagulls from habituating the roofs of the complex.

Monday 11/10

1:30pm, dispatched to Ocean Rescue, swimmer caught in a rip current at Surfers Knoll groin.  Officers responded in Rescue B19 and vehicle to the call.  The victim was pulled from the current to the shore.  No injuries sustained from call.

Tuesday 11/11

11:30am, dispatched to a fall patient from a fall detector pendant in the Ventura Marina Community.  Officers responded to the unit, but no patient was found.  After brief investigation, officers discovered the owner of the medical alarm dropped it on a walk and was confused about all the commotion.
