On Saturday, June 7, 2025, Ventura County Animal Services (VCAS) will participate in the second annual California Adopt-A-Pet Day, joining more than 150 animal shelters across California for this free statewide adoption event. The initiative is presented by the California Animal Welfare Association (CalAnimals), the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SF SPCA), and the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®).
“With our Ventura County shelters operating in a constant state of over-capacity, this adoption event couldn’t come at a better time,” said Esteban Rodriguez, Director of Ventura County Animal Services. “We have dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small animals waiting for loving homes—everything from playful puppies and lovable kittens, and affectionate seniors.”
All adoption fees will be waived during this one-day event. Every adopted animal will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and flea-treated. In addition, each new pet parent will receive special adoption gifts, generously provided by District 4 Supervisor Janice Parvin.
During last year’s inaugural event, VCAS placed 49 animals into new homes, contributing to a statewide total of 3,609 adoptions. This year, their goal is to surpass 50 adoptions in a single day.
“Whether you’re looking for a playful companion or a mellow lap dog, there’s an animal at our shelter waiting to meet you,” added Rodriguez.
