Vol. 16, No. 04 – Nov 16 – Nov 30, 2022 – Harbor Patrol Blotter

Wednes 10/19

7:25pm, while on patrol in Rescue B19, educated 2 fishermen hoop netting in the harbor entrance. Advised of areas to legally place hoop nets.

Thursday 10/20

4:39pm, dispatched to a marina fire near 1500 Spinnaker Dr. Officers responded in the Fireboat along with VFD landside. After brief investigation, determined a generator on a Fishing vessel was the cause of the heavy smoke.

Friday 10/21

11:40pm, dispatched to an assault at Boat Yard Pub. Officers responded with AMR/VFD and Ventura PD. After stagging, PD cleared all units, no medical(s).

Saturday 10/22

8:06pm, received report of an ill person in a vehicle near boatyard on Anchors Way. Officers responded, attempted to resuscitate the patient but unfortunately unable to for obvious signs of death. Medics affirmed death and VPD took over.

Monday 10/24

9:15am, officers participating in annual Marine Firefighting training with Ventura City Fire. Officers operate Fireboat 1, while City Fire practice fire fight

Tuesday 10/25

9:30pm, received report of a medical on a large Fishing Vessel. Officers responded, performed first aid (splinted a broken foot) and gave directions to hospital because the patient refused medical care further than first aid.
Friday 10/28 3:00pm, observed approximately 80 novice Stand up paddlers “attempting” to navigate the turning and Pierpont areas. Officers offering navigating advice.

9:00pm, while on patrol, contacted fishermen illegally placing hoop nets in the Harbor Entrance. Educated on legal areas for hoop net fishing.

Saturday 10/29

4:30pm, assisting Pierpont Bay YC with their last sailboat race of the season with access to the dirt lot at the end of Spinnaker Drive.

Sunday 10/30

8:15am, received report of hazard to navigation, debris in the Ventura Keys. Officers responded in Fireboat and searched but were unable to locate hazard.

3:28pm, received multiple reports of a vessel accident at VIM E-dock. Officers responded by land and sea to the incident. After investigation, a new owner of a 58ft motor vessel attempted to back in his vessel, collided with pilings & docks.

Tuesday 11/1 8:05pm, contacted an individual parked in Harbor Cove lot, camping in vehicle. The person is heading out on Island Packers tomorrow. Advised where they could get a parking permit and the area to park for such activities.

Wednes 11/2

6:03am, observed National Weather Service issued a Gale Warning for winds gusting to 35kts late. Officers raised warning pennants at Port District.

Thursday 11/3

7:27am, received report of a commercial fishing vessel listing to port at VHV D-dock. Officers responded and assisted with determining the cause that appeared to be from unevenly filled fuel tanks.

Friday 11/4

6:45pm, observed a large sea lion on the swim step of the Fireboat. Officers carefully and legally convinced the mammal off the boat and into the water.

Sunday 11/6

4:10pm, dispatched to a fall victim in Harbor Town Point timeshare. Officers responded by foot and assessed then performed first aid on a lacerated hand.

Monday 11/7

5:40am, observed National Weather service issued Small Craft Advisory for winds, officers raised warning pennant at the Port District.

9:41pm, dispatched to a medical alarm alert in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded, found patient on the floor requesting a lift assist, no injuries were sustained. Lifted the patient onto her bed, cancelled responding units.

Tuesday 11/8

10:20am, dispatched to an unresponsive diver aboard an inbound dive boat. Officers responded in the fireboat but unfortunately responders were unable to resuscitate the 50 y/o male who was diving off Santa Cruz Island.

2:00pm, observing heavy rain fall and strong Southerly winds most of the day.

 

Vol. 16, No. 03 – Nov 2 – Nov 15, 2022 – Harbor Patrol Blotter

Tuesday 10/11

8:01pm, while on patrol in vehicle, observed thunderstorms South and East of the Harbor. Officers updated the weather message board at launch ramp and contacted boaters who were heading out, warning of the hazardous conditions.

Wednes 10/12

12:21am, received report of an alarm sounding near 1691 Spinnaker Dr. Officers responded and found a door to the wash and restrooms was ajar. Secured door.

1:30pm, officers attending interagency Firefighting training with Ventura City at the Ventura Port District with the fireboat and other related equipment. During training, NWS called advising severe weather, thunderstorm, training canceled.

Thursday 10/13

5:34pm, dispatched to an unconscious person at Water’s Edge restaurant. Officers responded with VFD/AMR to the call. Patient transported to hospital.

7:07pm, while on patrol in Rescue B19, officers educated operator in a small skiff for insufficient navigation lights and hoop nets in prohibited area.

Friday 10/14

9:00am, officers attending Fireboat training with Ventura City Fire at the Port District Harbor Patrol dock with Fireboat 1 and firefighting equipment.

7:15pm, while on patrol in Rescue B19, officers educating fishermen hoop netting around the breakwall. Violations varied from insufficient navigation lights, safety equipment deficiencies and fishing regulations.

Saturday 10/15

1:00pm, new patrol officers short tow and side tow training with small sailboats throughout the harbor, placing vessels in slips.

3:03pm, received a request from State Parks officers to contact 3 personal watercraft in violation of reckless operation at Mondos beach. Officers gathered descriptions and made contact, educated operators at the launch ramp.

4:15pm, received a report of a dog off the leash on South Beach from PD dispatch. Officers responded in vehicle, found a dog off the leash sleeping with its owner near Lifeguard tower 2. No contact made.

Sunday 10/16

1:28pm, while manning the operations center, received a report of a sick/injured sea lion near Marina Park. Officers relayed mammal rescue experts contact info, Channel Islands Marine Wildlife Institute (805 567-1505).

7:10pm, received a report of an unknown person knocking on the door of a Ventura Marina Community unit. Advised to contact VPD, the individual said that PD would not respond. Officers responded, observed PD at the residence contacting the RP. The disturbing party was gone on arrival.

8:45pm, observed a fleet of light boats in the channel, marking where the squid are for the purse seiners. Also noticed several semi-trucks staging on Spinnaker near the Fish offloading pier. Receiving inquiries about the lights in the channel.

Monday 10/17

6:04pm, dispatched to an ocean rescue, para glider in distress upcoast of the Ventura Pier. Officers responded in Fireboat to the call. The victim was able to self-rescue after refusing assistance from first responders.

Tuesday 10/18

4:35pm, received a report of a remote-control boat operating in the Pierpont Basin. Advised it was observed and no violations or disturbance noted.

7:45pm, received inquiries about the lights in the East Santa Barbara Channel. Advised it was light boats fishing for squid, specifically holding spots for seiners

Tuesday 9/27

4:15pm, received complaint of 2 transients with bikes & a large trashcan in handicap R/R at the launch ramp. Cleaners attempted to clean but they refused to leave. Officers responded, issued warning for loitering, removed them

11:55pm, received report of a domestic dispute on a vessel in VIM M-dock. Officers tried to convince RP that this was a police issue and to contact them. Eventually officers responded, contacted VPD and they resolved the issue.

Wednes 9/28

3:25am, observed National Weather Service issued a Small Craft Advisory for West winds to 25kts today. Officers illuminated warning lights, raised pennant.

5:45am, contacted by new female transient looking for Harbor Blvd. Officers gave detailed directions, inquired where she was from, she stated Los Angeles.

8:10am, received request for a tow from a disabled vessel inside the harbor. Officers responded in Fireboat 1, but a Good Samaritan boat was able to assist.

Thursday 9/29

9:10am, observed a dense fog bank roll in, officers activated fog signal.

4:25pm, received report of a disabled motor vessel in the sandtrap. Officers responded in Fireboat, located then towed the vessel to the launch ramp.

5:05pm, received report of Hazard to navigation, a large piece of timber near VHV I-dock. Officers responded, removed it, and disposed at the launch ramp.

10:07pm, while on patrol observed blinding lights on the sport fishing vessel Endeavor while berthed. Officers contacted, issued warning for the violation.

Friday 9/30

2:51am, dispatched to a fall victim in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded with AMR/VFD and assisted patient with lift assist, no injuries.

7:56am, dispatched to stroke victim in Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded with AMR/VFD to an 83 y/o male who states he feels like he’s in a dream. The patient was treated then transported to local hospital for further eval.

10:58am, dispatched to Ventura Marina Community for unknown medical. Officers responded with AMR/VFD. No medical, patient refused assistance.

Saturday 10/1

1:33am, while on patrol in vehicle, contacted by the owner of a disabled vehicle in the district lot. Officers were able to jumpstart the vehicle.

6:00am, 2022/2023 lobster season officially open. Officers on patrol in Fireboat to check on diving and hoop netting activity near the Harbor Breakwall.

1:30pm, while on patrol in the vehicle, received a request to transport a surfer near the Santa Clara Rivermouth who was suffering from a back injury. Officers transported surfer to Surfers Knoll, where a friend transported him to a hospital.

8:05pm, on patrol in Fireboat to check on diving/hoop-netting activity near the breakwall and entrance. Officers conducting safety inspections of vessels, ensuring no ordinance violations and/or closed areas clear of fishing.

Sunday 10/2

1:18am, dispatched to a sick person near the Sheraton. Officers responded with AMR/VFD, patient wasn’t sick or injured, just tired, walked from South Oxnard.

12:15pm, dispatched to sick person in Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded with GoldCoast to the call. Patient requesting transport to hospital.

 

Vol. 16, No. 01 – Oct 5 – Oct 18, 2022 – Harbor Patrol Blotter

Wednes 9/14

5:25am, dispatched to a fire alarm in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded with VFD, alarms were malfunctioning due to low battery.

9am-7pm, received multiple calls (20) concerning dead/sick or injured sea lions through out the harbor and the keys. Sea lions are dealt with by an agency called CIMWI (CI marine wildlife institute). If a sick/injured sea lion is observed, contact CIMWI at 805 567-1505 or fill out online report at CIMWI.org.

Friday 9/16

4:44pm, dispatched to an aircraft down at Marina Park. Officers responded with multiple agencies to the call. 3 persons were aboard, no injuries sustained. The plane landed on the beach and eventually ended up on the Greenock jetty.

Saturday 9/17

6:15am, received request to open locked restrooms at the launch ramp from VPD. Officers assisted and VPD arrested an individual for warrants..

11:10am, assisting with a memorial paddle out for Firefighter Clapsaddle at Harbor Cove. Later, officers assisted with Coach Barrette paddle out at the Pier.

Monday 9/19

9:10am, officers retrieved/trailored rescue boat on loan from City of Oxnard to return it. Much thanks to the city for loaning their vessel.

Tuesday 9/20

12:00pm, received report of an aggressive sea lion attacking kayakers in the keys. Officers responded in Fireboat 1, but were unable to locate the mammal or kayakers in the area described.

 

 

 

Wednes 9/21

3:20am, received a report of a dead sealion near the Portside marina rip rap. Officers advised they would investigate during daylight hours.

11:33am, received report of a vessel adrift in the keys. Officers responded in Fireboat, were able to tow the vessel back to its dilapidated dock in the keys.

Thursday 9/22

7:31am, officers received request to standby at the launch ramp restrooms while VPD arrests transients residing there. Several arrested for outstanding warrants.

Friday 9/23

7:25pm, received a request to jumpstart a vehicle disabled on Spinnaker Drive. Officers attempted several times, but unfortunately were unable to help.

Saturday 9/24

1:40pm, while on patrol in the Fireboat, observed to skin divers attempting to cross the Pierpont Basin. Officers contacted and educated about no diving or swimming in the Harbor ordinance. The pair returned to Marina Park Dock.

9:15pm, contacted by a family with a disabled recreational vehicle in the village. Officers attempted to jumpstart the RV, but were unsuccessful. Transported the family to the 4points Sheridan were they were staying. Vehicle was towed away

Sunday 9/25

7:30am, officers opened gate at the end of Spinnaker for NSSA contest parking.

2:55pm, observed a small sailboat with 2 POB having difficulty. Officers responded in Rescue B19 to assist. After several attempts to right the sailboat, officers assisted with lowering the sails and took the vessel en tow to the L/R.

4:20pm, received report of a disabled electric boat. Officers responded in the Fireboat, towed the vessel to the Dreamer Rental dock and released.

4:47pm, received report of an unconscious person in a vehicle near 1575 Spinnaker Dr. Officers responded and found the patient, she was intoxicated. Her husband arrived on scene and she was released to him. No medical.

Monday 9/26

5:40am, observed NWS issued a Small Craft Advisory, raised warning pennant.

12:35pm, gave permission to commercial fishermen to store lobster traps at the launch ramp while they prepare for lobster season that began October 1st at 6am.

 

Vol. 15, No. 26 – Sept 21 – Oct 4, 2022 – Harbor Patrol Blotter

Wednes 8/31

1:05pm, dispatched to a male with altered mental status. Officers responded with VFD/AMR to a 74 y/o male who was in an accident a few days ago. Patient was assessed and transported to local hospital for further evaluation.

1:55pm, received report of an injured sea bird at the launch ramp. Officers responded and captured the bird for rescue volunteers to pick up.

Thursday 9/1

2:45am, received a request from Tow Boat US to secure a 60ft trimaran at the launch ramp for repairs. Officers granted the request, assisted with securing.

6:45am, observed a Small Craft Advisory in effect, raised warning pennant.

Friday 9/2

12:28am, received request for a tow from disabled 24ft motor vessel near the Harbor entrance. Officers responded and safely towed the vessel to L/R.

11:16am, dispatched to an allergic reaction at Harbor Cove. Officers responded with AMR/VFD to assist. Patient treated and transported to local hospital.

12:54pm, observed a transient repairing bike on Schooner Dr. Officers contacted and eventually convinced the individual to move belongings off street.

Saturday 9/3

10:00am, three new full time officers attending Marine Firefighting class at the Ventura Port District. The class is on don/duffing turnouts, Self Contained Breathing Apparatus and operation of the fireboat while fighting marine fires.

3:40pm, received report of a capsized PWC in the surf line. Officers responded in the fireboat to assist State Parks Lifeguards. The victim was rescued but his PWC was hard aground on the jetty, 10ft above the water line. It is unsafe to tow the PWC, Tow Boat US will salvage tomorrow.

9:45pm, observed a trashcan fire at the launch ramp washdown while on patrol. Officers were able to extinguish the fire without assistance.

Sunday 9/4

3:52pm, received report of an assault on a commercial sport fishing vessel. Officers responded with several law enforcement agencies to investigate.

7:15pm, received report of a grease/oil spill at Brophy Bro’s grease trap. Officer responded and assisted maintenance with containing the spill.

Monday 9/5

7:45pm, received report of overdue vessels, 2 PWC. Assisted Tow Boat US. The two victims were found and safely returned to the launch ramp.

8:25pm, dispatched to ill person, 99 y/o male in Ventura Marina Community.

11:34pm, dispatched to fall victim, 74 y/o male, Ventura Marina Community.

Tuesday 9/6

2:16pm, dispatched to water rescue at the Ventura Pier. Officers responded in Fireboat and Rescue watercraft to assist a swimmer in distress.

4:16pm, received multiple reports of a dead sealion adrift near Greenock lane jetty. Officers responded in Fireboat, disposed of the carcass.

Wednes 9/7

6:18pm, receiving multiple calls concerning sick/injured sealions through out the harbor. Officers gave CIMWI’s (Channel Isld marine wildlife inst) contact info.
Friday 9/9 2:42pm, officers have answered twenty-one (21) phone calls, mostly concerning the sick/injured sealions suffering from demoic acid poisoning. All sea lion calls are directed to CIMWI (channel islands marine wildlife institute) for help.

Saturday 9/10

10:36am, dispatched to a sick person at the Holiday Inn Express. Officers responded with AMR/VFD to the call. Patient transported to hospital.

Sunday 9/11

6:07am, officers raised colors to half mast in memorial of 911 victims.

Monday 9/12

12:00pm, received report of danger zone closure from Vandenburg military tests and or launch.

Tuesday 9/13

Dawn to Dusk, receiving multiple reports of injured or sick sea lions through out the harbor beaches and harbor areas. Relayed CIMWI contact info.

 

Vol. 15, No. 25 – Sept 7 – Sept 20, 2022 – Harbor Patrol Blotter

Wednes 8/17

10:33am, dispatched to a stingray strike at Harbor Cove. Officers responded with hot water to treat the injury. The patient was treated, released at scene.

11:11am, observed a personal watercraft operating in violation of speed and wake ordinance. Officers responded in Fireboat, educated operator of the PWC.

Thursday 8/18

3:50pm, received report of sealions damaging water spigot at VHV F-dock. Officers responded and assisted Port maintenance with removing mammals so that they could repair the water spigot.
Friday 8/19 12:35pm, received report of an emergency, a sealion upside down near the end of the A-basin. Officers responded, found a sealion suffering from demoic acid poisoning. Contacted Channel Islands Marine Wildlife Institute (CIMWI).

Saturday 8/20

4:55pm, received an injured sea bird, a Grebe. Officers contacted bird rescue volunteers and coordinated a pickup for the bird.

5:10pm, received report of a deceased sea lion near VIM. Officers responded in the Fireboat and were able to remove the carcass.

Sunday 8/21

12:15pm, dispatched to stingray strike at Harbor Cove. Officers responded with hot water to assist State Parks lifeguards with the patient.

Monday 8/22

11:40am, a fishing seiner crashed into the fish offloading pier while attempting to dock and unload. No injuries or major damage reported.

Wednes 8/24

7:54pm, received report of a vessel accident, person hit by a drone. The drone hit the sailboats mast and crashed into one of the deckhands. The patient was taken to the hospital to receive stiches. The incident is under investigation.

Friday 8/26

7:30am, received the first of many reports of sick sea lions. Unfortunately, for the last few weeks sea lions have been observed suffering from demoic acid poisoning. RP’s have been advised to contact CIMWI to report incidents.

9:25am, officers attending procession for Ventura Firefighter Matt Clappsaddle.

6:02pm, received report of juveniles trespassing in Harbor Town point pool. Officers assisted, impounding their bikes and having their parents retrieve them.

Saturday 8/27

3:33pm, received request for a jumpstart for a dead battery for a vehicle in Harbor Cove parking lot. Officers were able to successfully jumpstart vehicle.

4:00pm, dispatched to stingray strike at Harbor Cove. Officers responded with hot water to assist State Parks lifeguards with the patient.

Sunday 8/28

8:50am, received report of an oil sheen near VHV I-dock. Officers responded, found the sheen, searched the area for the source by the docks and vessel but were unable to find where the thick substance came from.

1:43pm, dispatched to an unconscious person in village. Officers responded and assisted VFD/AMR with the patient in a village business. Patient transported.

2:00pm, received report of 5 personal watercraft “beached” near the Santa Clara Rivermouth. Officers responded by land and sea to the incident. State Parks and Harbor Patrol were able to assist all 5 operators get their skis off the beach.

Monday 8/29

7:04pm, dispatched to an Ocean Rescue, kite surfer in distress at the Ventura Pier. Officers responded with multiple agencies, victim safely escorted to shore.

Tuesday 8/30

3:04pm, received report of a vessel accident at VIM H-dock. Officers responded, investigated collision between a moored sailboat and a 42ft Catalina sailboat. Minor if any damage observed in the accident.

Vol. 15, No. 24 – Aug 24 – Sept 6, 2022 – Harbor Patrol Blotter

Wednes 8/3

12:43pm, dispatched to a fall victim in Mobile home park. Officers responded with VFD/AMR to assist a female with lift assist, no injuries sustained from fall.

Thursday 8/4

12:22pm, received report of a stolen vehicle at Village. Officers responded with VPD, searched the lot and were able to locate the vehicle in the lot.

Saturday 8/6

11:55am, observed a disabled dinghy in the main channel. Officers aboard Rescue B19 were able to tow the vessel to its slip in the Portside marina.

Sunday 8/7

2:00pm, dispatched to stingray strike at Harbor Cove, tower #3. Officers responded with hot water to treat the puncture wound. Patient treated than released on scene by State Parks Lifeguards.

Monday 8/8

12:50-2:05pm, dispatched to seven stingray strikes at Harbor Cove. Officers responded to each call with hot water to treat the injurys’. All patients were treated on scene and released after the painful injury.

Tuesday 8/9

5:00am, received report of a transient screaming at employee of the fuel dock. Officers responded, removed the individual from the area.

Wednes 8/10

6:31pm, received mayday call from the skipper of a 24ft vessel that lost its rudder approximately 1 mile west of harbor. Officers responded, towed the vessel at low speed back to their slip at Ventura Yacht Club guest dock.

Thursday 8/11

8:50pm, while on patrol in the vehicle, observed two RV’s parked in the launch ramp parking lot. Officers educated the owners, and they removed the vehicles.

Friday 8/12

11:30am, received request for a tow from disabled vessel. Officers responded and towed the vessel to the harbor; Tow Boat US took over in the harbor.

1:57pm, dispatched to a stingray strike at Harbor Cove. Officers responded with hot water to assist State Parks. The patient was treated and released.

Saturday 8/13

4:07pm, dispatched to stingray strike at Harbor Cove. Officers responded with hot water to assist State Parks with the injury. Patient treated and released.

5:05pm, received report of individuals from the “pirate ship” at VHV D-dock harassing workers at the Boat Yard pub. Officers responded, contacted the individuals and they agreed not to return to the Pub.

6:30pm, received report of an individual trespassing on a vessel in VIM. Officers responded and after a brief investigation determined both parties were intoxicated and the trespass was accidental. Both have the same sailboat.

Sunday 8/14

4:45pm, dispatched to an Ocean Rescue near the South Jetty, capsized kayaks and 2 persons in the water. Officers responded, launched rescue swimmer to save the two persons, pulled them aboard Fireboat, uninjured. The kayaks dewatered and everything/everyone was delivered to the launch ramp.

Monday 8/15

3:19pm, dispatched to fall at Navigator/Spinnaker. Officers responded with VFD/AMR, found a female skateboarder down with a shoulder injury. She was treated on scene and transported by AMR to local hospital.

Tuesday 8/16

2:03am, dispatched to an overdose at VWM. Officers responded with VFD/AMR. Responders found two young females that took too many magic mushrooms and had called 911. The pair were released to parents, uninjured.

4:17pm, dispatched to multiple stingray strikes at Harbor Cove. Responded with hot water to assist State Parks with two patients. Transported one to vehicle.

 

 

Vol. 15, No. 23 – Aug 10 – Aug 23, 2022 – Harbor Patrol Blotter

Thursday 7/21

7:11am, dispatched to a traffic accident on Harbor/Schooner. Officers responded with VFD/AMR/VPD to the call. Unfortunately, patient DOA from major crash.

4:33pm, dispatched to an overdose at VWM. Officers responded with VFD/AMR to the call. Narcan administered, patient transported to hospital.

Friday 7/22

9-11am, receiving multiple calls regarding dead/sick sealions up and down the coast. Officers advised callers, sick/injured/dead mammals, contact Channel Islands Marine Wildlife Inst. (CIMWI), the organization that deals with mammals. Officers are not equipped or trained to handle animals.

Saturday 7/23

2:10pm, dispatched to an ocean rescue, 10 persons caught in a rip current. Officers responded in Rescue Boat 19 to assist State Parks Lifeguards. All the victims were pulled from the rip current and returned to shore.

Sunday 7/24

9:30am, received report of juveniles urinating outside the launch ramp restrooms Officers responded, found the individuals and removed them from the Harbor.

3:19pm, received report of tar in an excessive amount offshore and on the beach at Solimar. The RP advised it was the most tar they have ever witnessed since moving there. Asked how long they lived there, they replied 2 months.

Monday 7/25

11:18am, dispatched to stingray strike at Surfers Knoll Groin. Officers responded with hot water to treat the injury. Patient treated and released.
Wednes 7/27 4:30pm, observed two PWC’s operating in violation of speed and wake ordinance in the main channel. Conducted a safety inspection, found several violations, issued warnings for discrepancies and speeding.

Thursday 7/28

4:55am, dispatched to unknown medical at end of Navigator Dr, parking lot. Officers responded with VFD/AMR and assisted a adult female with multiple ailments/issues. The patient was assessed, then transported by AMR.

2:03pm, dispatched to stingray strike at Harbor Cove. Officers delivered hot water to State Parks lifeguards to treat the injury.

Friday 7/29

9:50am, officers en route in the Fireboat to monitor the State Parks Junior Lifeguard pier swim. All participants were successful or aided by lifeguards.

10:29am, received request to use the beach wheelchair. Officers delivered the chair to Harbor Cove beach for use.

4:47pm, received report of a female transient casing/rummaging through property in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded with VPD, searched the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.

Saturday 7/30

11:47am, dispatched to a public assist, dog stuck on the end of the jetty at San Pedro Lane. Officers responded in the fireboat to assist. The dog was rescued by State Parks Lifeguards and returned to the owner.

4:18pm, dispatched to unknown medical at 1559 Spinnaker. Officers responded and assisted VFD/AMR with an unconscious female. She was transported to hospital for intoxication/confusion. Unsure where she was or how she got there

Sunday 7/31

4:50pm, dispatched to a stingray strike at Harbor Cove, officers responded with hot water to help State Parks treat the injury. Patient treated, then released.

10:50pm, received request to use Port Districts longdock to secure the crew boat “Alan T” to clear a prop that was fouled. Granted permission to use dock.

Monday 8/1

1:03am, received report of alarm sounding in direction of the NPS building. Officers responded, contacted an NPS employee on scene. They advised that the system has been malfunctioning for some time, that they were working on it.

6:09pm, dispatched to an Ocean Rescue, missing swimmer at San Pedro Lane. Officers responded in the Fireboat, the swimmer was found on shore uninjured.

Tuesday 8/2

3:10pm, receiving complaints in regard to the NPS alarm sounding at night. Advised they are aware and working on the issue.

Tuesday 7/05

7:53pm, while on patrol in the Fireboat, observed Standup Paddlers without lifejackets and navigation lights. Issued warnings for violations.

Wednes 7/06

3:21am, received lost/stolen property, a portable air compressor from 4points hotel security. A few transients left it at the hotel lobby.

11:04am, dispatched to a broken arm and stingray strike. Officers responded with VFD/AMR and treated the broken arm for transport. Hot water applied to the stingray strike victim, waited for parents to transport. While waiting, a third patient found with a stingray strike. Treated with hot water and released.

Thursday 7/07

4:00am, contacted a female transient camping in the Port District lot. She declined to leave and stated she was on the run from a hobo gang all the way from Arkansas. The gang is after her because of comments made on a pod cast.

Friday 7/08

11:11am, dispatched to a fall victim in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded with VFD/AMR, patient transported, on the floor for days.

5:10pm, observed group of juveniles attempting to jump off fish offloading pier. Halted group, issued warnings for violation and advised of poor water quality.

Saturday 7/09

6:21am, received report of two males fishing at the pond inside the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded and removed the pair with warnings.

Wednes 7/13

2:38am, dispatched to a cardiac full arrest in the Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded with VFD/AMR to a 70 y/o female unresponsive, no pulse. All resuscitation efforts and devices were utilized, including AED and a Lucas machine, but unfortunately rescuers were unable to revive the patient.

3:45pm, dispatched to a stingray strike at Harbor Cove. Officers responded with hot water to treat the injury.

Thursday 7/14

10:47am, assisted Tow Boat US with traffic control while they tow a 65ft fishing vessel into the harbor and then to the boatyard for haulout.

4:25pm, observed a rental electric boat disabled in the turning basin. Officers responded in Fireboat, towed the vessel back to the rental dock in the village.

Friday 7/15

5:00pm, received a report of a disabled Personal Watercraft South of the Harbor. Officers responded in Rescue Boat 19, but while en route passed the rescue to Tow Boat US because the vessel was 7 miles South of the Harbor.

Saturday 7/16

12:39pm, dispatched to a diabetic patient having a seizure at Harbor Cove. Officers responded with VFD/AMR and treated with oxygen and monitored blood Oxy until medics arrived and eventually transported to hospital.

6:55pm, while on patrol in Fireboat, observed a few Standup paddle boards extending into the navigable channel in the A-Basin. Officers issued warning.

Sunday 7/17

11:30am, monitoring start of the Ventura Yacht Club regatta from the Fireboat. The start was delayed by fog, but it quickly cleared and race began.

4:35pm, received request to tow a large plastic water toy that sank in the keys. Officers responded in Fireboat, were able to dewater, then tow the toy to its dock

Monday 7/18

11:45am, issued warning to operator of a 20ft whaler in violation of speed and wake ordinance in the main channel while on patrol in Rescue Boat 19.

2:26pm, dispatched to a fall victim in front of the Water’s Edge Restaurant. Officers responded with AMR/VFD, patient transported to hospital.

Wednes 6/22

9:45am, assisted Army Corp of Engineers with a ride on Fireboat 1 out to the breakwall for inspection and survey of it.

11:55pm, retrieved an abandoned inflatable and kayak at the launch ramp. Eventually the owner contacted and arranged for pick up in daylight hours.

Thursday 6/23

1:30pm, officers giving Rescue Boat 19 a sea trial after repairs from tsunami damage. New rudders and cleats were added to the vessel.

6:14pm, received report of a deceased sea lion adrift near Derektor boat yard. Officers responded in Fireboat and removed the animal.

7:00pm, observed two children on kayaks beset by 17kts of westwind, hanging on to patrol dock. Officers took the pair aboard FB1, delivered to Marina Park.

Friday 6/24

6:50am, dispatched to a ruptured pipe under gangway at VIM. Officers responded in vehicle Harb1 and were able to secure the pipe.

10:03am, dispatched to a stingray strike at Harbor Cove. Officers responded with hot water and assisted State Parks lifeguards with patient.

11:45am, dispatched to ill persons in Ventura Marina Community. Officers responded with AMR/VFD to a husband and wife in a neglectful situation. Eventually both patients were transported for multiple ailments.

3:22pm, received report of disabled PWC just outside the breakwall. After arriving on scene, observed TowBoat US had the vessel en tow.

6:33pm, received request for and jumpstarted an Island Packers customer car.

Saturday 6/25

9:18am, received report of a dispute between two tenants in Ventura Isle Marina. Officers investigated, warned one of the individuals for tampering with vessel.

3:53pm, dispatched with multiple agencies to a 34ft sailboat aground at McGrath State Beach. Officers responded in vehicle after it was surmised 5 POB’s were safe and uninjured. The vessel was “soft” aground and towed by TowBoat US.

Sunday 6/26

10:39am, received report of a disabled PWC outside the surf at Mandalay powerplant. Officers responded in Rescue Boat 19, found the vessel was no longer disabled, escorted the PWC back to the launch ramp.

11:20am, received report of a fuel sheen at VWM A-dock. Officers responded, found a sheen and the person responsible. Made sure the source was secured.

1:05pm, took possession of an injured pelican that a boater found near Santa Cruz Island. Placed the sea bird in a cage for Rescue Volunteers.

5:40pm, dispatched to a foilboarder in distress at Ventura Pier. Officers responded in Fireboat with multiple agencies. The individual was uninjured, taken aboard Fireboat and transported to the beach at Seaward Ave.

Monday 6/27

 

4:16pm, dispatched to capsized kayak near Portside. Officers responded and were able to pull two persons from the water and return the kayak.

Wednes 6/29

2:00pm, dispatched to a stingray strike at Harbor Cove. Officers were unable to respond because they were offshore on patrol in the Fireboat.
Thursday 6/30 2:10am, dispatched to a traumatic injury at 1080 Navigator Dr. Officers responded with AMR to a 56 y/o female who crashed her bike. She was treated for a broken leg, facial injuries. AMR transported to hospital for further care.

2:49am, observed substantial fireworks display at Marina Park, receiving calls that reporting parties believe someone is shooting guns. Monitored VPD responding to shots fire, officers contacted VPD and advised of the fireworks.

Saturday 7/02 10:02am, received report of a deceased sealion adrift near Harbor Cove. Officers responded, towed the mammal out of the area with the Fireboat.
Monday 7/04 11:03pm, after weeks of complaints about fireworks throughout the area, it seems that the responsible parties have finally ran out of pyrotechnics, because the explosions, flashes and extremely loud bangs have slowly settled down.
