Winners Announced: Woofs, Hooves and Whiskers 2026 Calendar Contest

From the Humane Society of Ventura County –

That’s a wrap on this year’s Woofs, Hooves and Whiskers Calendar Contest! The Humane Society of Ventura County (HSVC) was thrilled by the incredible photo entries and the overwhelming support from participants and voters. Nearly $17,000 was raised to help animals in HSVC’s care.

Nine of the twelve victors were chosen by you, our amazing voters, as the top three pets in each category. The remaining three were hand-selected by our incredible panel of judges: Bruce Holley of Kirby Subaru of Ventura, Bret Bradigan of Ojai Quarterly, and Jessica McCrea of Hey Bingo. Thank you all for lending your expertise!

Thank you to everyone who entered and cast their votes!

The pets with the highest number of votes earned first place in their categories, with one lucky animal taking home the grand prize as the overall top-voted winner. While every furry (and feathered) contestant is a star in our eyes, three standout pets earned top honors and will each receive a special prize package — including their very own month in the upcoming 2026 calendar.

Grand Prize Winner and First Place, Dog Category: Wrigley

Brown and black dog laying on beach.
Wrigley was named Grand Prize and First Place winner in ‘Dog’ category.

HSVC alum Wrigley secured his spot as the grand prize winner and first place in the dog category with a staggering 4,654 votes! He was adopted from HSVC in October 2024 at just 8 weeks old.

Wrigley is a “super mutt” who loves adventure. When he’s not working on his service dog training, his favorite thing to do is go to the beach — or find the perfect stick to carry on his morning walks.

First Place, Cat Category: Tabitha

Small grey cat.
Tabitha – First Place winner in ‘Cat’ category.

Our first-place cat, Tabitha, came to her family all the way from Guadalajara, Mexico, and earned an impressive 2,500 votes!

In January 2025, Tabitha was found abandoned as a tiny kitten and rescued from a neighborhood street. Her new family nurtured her into a beautiful young cat who loves to play — and supervise her companion dog and canaries.

First Place, Other Pets Category: Oliver Bird

White parakeet.
Oliver Bird – First Place winner – ‘Other Pets’ category.

Many will recognize the face of our first-place winner in the “Other Pets” category — it’s none other than Oliver Bird!

Now retired and living happily in a loving home, the beloved Cockatoo was happy to lend a claw to support his friends at the shelter, earning 500 votes to take the top spot.

Oliver, an Umbrella Cockatoo, greeted visitors for more than three decades with his snow-white feathers, playful dances and boundless personality. His adoption marked the end of an era at the shelter — and the beginning of a new chapter focused on comfort and companionship. Today, Oliver enjoys life with his feathered friends: Bobby, a Blue and Gold Macaw, and Cobi, another Umbrella Cockatoo.

Every Entry is a Star in Our Eyes!

All entrants will receive a 2026 calendar in the mail, and those who purchased a calendar will receive theirs by fall 2025. Thank you to everyone who participated, voted and helped spread the word about this year’s contest!
