Letter: Preemptive Fact Checking – Please Look at Accuracy (Main St. Moves)

July 14, 2025

Dear Editorial Team,

I’m writing as a concerned Ventura resident regarding any upcoming coverage your team may be planning about the recent City Council vote related to Main Street.

There was a recent article in the VC Star with a headline that inaccurately stated Council had voted to reopen Main Street to cars. In fact, the Council voted to stop pursuing the Pedestrian Mall Law — not to reopen the street. The road remains closed under the existing vehicle code designation, which Council approved in January. A final vote on whether to reopen Main Street to vehicles is expected in September, with two options on the table.

Given how much public understanding hinges on accurate headlines and reporting, I hope your coverage can reflect the facts clearly. If helpful, I’m happy to provide additional context or connect you with members of the citizen group working to protect our pedestrian-friendly downtown.

Thank you for your attention to this, and for your continued coverage of local issues.

Best regards,
Camille Holden
