Teresa’s lifelong dream had always been to travel to the continent of Africa on safari. We chose to visit two countries, Kenya and Tanzania. After spending three days in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, we took a small 12-passenger, single-engine plane to the Maasai Mara, an area of 600 square miles of African outback. During our many safari excursions, we were extremely fortunate to have seen the Big Five in their natural habitat: lion, Cape buffalo, elephant, leopard, and rhinoceros. The sighting of a cheetah on our last day was a special treat. This departing photo was taken at the Maasai Mara airport, with one lone gravel runway and without any other amenities or equipment, as we left for the next of five other locations.
