Ventura Harbor Parade of Lights Illuminates the Coast for 49th Year

The Ventura Harbor shimmered with holiday magic on December 12 and 13 as the 49th Annual Ventura Harbor Parade of Lights returned for two unforgettable evenings, drawing thousands to the waterfront for one of the region’s most cherished seasonal traditions.

Over the course of the weekend, the harbor came alive with glowing boats, festive music, and crowds lining the Village promenade. This year’s parade featured 27 decorated boats on Friday, December 12, and 38 boats on Saturday, December 13, each one uniquely illuminated and thoughtfully themed by members of the local boating community.

From sailboats and powerboats to human-powered and commercial entries, participants transformed the harbor into a moving canvas of color and creativity, with reflections of twinkling lights dancing across the water — a signature sight that has defined the Parade of Lights for nearly five decades.

On land, the celebration was just as lively. Guests enjoyed carnival rides, live DJs, sparkling LED performers, faux snow, whimsical bubble shows, and mischievous appearances by the Mean Green Mr. 805 Grouch, creating a festive atmosphere that delighted guests of all ages throughout Ventura Harbor Village.

“The heart of this event is the boaters,” organizers shared. “Their time, effort, and imagination are what make the parade possible and turn the harbor into something truly special for the community.”

Following the parade, standout vessels were recognized across multiple award categories, along with a People’s Choice Award voted on by the public, adding a spirited and interactive element to the celebration.

Beyond the parade route, Ventura Harbor Village buzzed with activity as visitors turned the evening into a full waterfront experience — dining at harbor-front restaurants, browsing seaside shops, and soaking in the festive glow. The Parade of Lights continues to be one of the Village’s most anticipated events, drawing locals and visitors alike to celebrate the season by the sea.

The 2026 Parade of Lights will mark the event’s 50th anniversary, and organizers promise a milestone celebration that will be bigger, brighter, and more spectacular than ever.

The Parade of Lights is just one of many community-focused events hosted throughout the year at Ventura Harbor Village, reinforcing its role as a coastal gathering place for connection, celebration, and tradition.

Those who missed the parade can still experience the holiday magic with a seasonal harbor cruise aboard Island Packers or a nighttime pedal boat excursion with Ventura Boat Rentals. With festive décor throughout the Village remaining up through the New Year, visitors are invited to stroll, enjoy the waterfront ambiance, and keep the holiday spirit shining a little longer.
