The Poinsettia Pavilion in Ventura was built in 1957 – the same year the Ventura Poinsettia Dance Club was founded. Primarily attended by seniors, the club welcomes dancers of all ages who are interested in ballroom dancing.
“We typically have a few dozen dancers – we’re hoping to grow,” said Dennis Sedgwick, membership secretary for the Ventura Poinsettia Dance Club. “A bit of history: the club started around 1957, when the Poinsettia Pavilion was built. In the past, members danced to live bands every Monday evening, except holidays, with about 100 people at each dance. As some of the longtime dancers have gotten too old to come out, attendance has dropped. We’re trying to rebuild and hope to return to every Monday sometime soon.”
Ballroom dances include the waltz and foxtrot, swing and West Coast swing, nightclub two-step, rumba, cha-cha and tango.
Dances in 2026 will be held on the second, fourth and fifth Mondays of each month, except Memorial Day and during the Christmas season. All dances take place at the Poinsettia Pavilion, 3451 Foothill Road, Ventura.
