NESTING, an environmental art installation by Maribel Hernandez in collaboration with the Ventura Botanical Gardens

By Ventura Breeze Staff

Beginning January 4 through March 2, Ventura Botanical Gardens visitors will encounter birds nesting throughout the gardens. In many cases, these birds will be artworks created by community members under the instruction of local artist Maribel Hernandez. This installation is designed to educate and engage visitors about the fauna living within these gardens, and to encourage them to view, and photograph, but not to disturb nests or nesting birds.

In North America, federal law protects nests that contain eggs or are in the process of being built. This installation aims to build awareness and sensitivity to our fellow garden inhabitants. Visitors are encouraged to share their photographs through social media and to tag the Ventura Botanical Gardens on Facebook and @vbgventura on Instagram, using the
#nesting.

This installation was made possible in part by a generous grant through the County of Ventura Arts & Culture Investment Fund and facilitated by Sindelar Art Consulting. www.venturabotanicalgardens.com.
