Last month, seniors aged 55 and older gathered at the clubhouse in the Marina Park Mobile Home community for a spirited Beatles sing-along, where nostalgia and delicious food blended in spectacular harmony.
Each attendee contributed a favorite dish, creating a potluck buffet that rivaled a five-star restaurant. There was lasagna that could make any Italian mama weep, Chinese dishes tastier than takeout, and ceviche so fresh it could have come straight from Neptune’s Net. Even some of the salads had a whimsical “Octopus’s Garden” theme.
Dessert offerings included decadent chocolate cakes, cupcakes, and bright purple macarons. Coffee, tea, and water f lowed like the lyrics of “Yesterday,” providing a cozy backdrop for laughter and conversation. For those who indulged, a splash of wine added to the merriment.
With lyrics projected on a large screen, the energy in the room soared as the group kicked things off with “She Loves You,” “Love Me Do,” Ringo Starr’s “Octopus’s Garden,” and “Twist and Shout.” A wave of twisting and shouting followed, turning canes into makeshift microphones and wheelchairs into dance floors. Colleen and Ms. Laban stole the spotlight with their groovy moves—proof that age is just a number when the right song plays.
Later, as “Let It Be” filled the room, the mood turned more sentimental. Seniors raised their phone flashlights, casting a sea of twinkling lights across the room. “I can’t find my flashlight!” one person said, while another fumbled with their phone, asking, “How do I turn this thing on?” Laughter echoed as someone asked, “Are we doing ‘Yesterday’ or ‘Michelle, Ma Belle’?” before everyone joined in for a heartfelt rendition of “Let It Be.”
A Beatles trivia game kept the energy high, sparking friendly competition as participants vied for the title of Fab Four Fanatic. As they shared favorite songs and not-so-secret band crushes, the room buzzed with memories, joy, and community spirit—all while enjoying lovingly prepared dishes. By the end of the evening, the seniors had not only sung their hearts out but had also built a buffet of laughter, love and camaraderie, proving once again that the magic of the Beatle’s music, games and food can bring generations together.
