The land has been cleared for a 70-acre, state-of-the-art commercial composting center on Limoneira Company property in Santa Paula. The joint venture between Limoneira and Agromin will expand the existing 15-acre green waste composting facility, which Agromin has operated at the site since 2004.
The expanded facility is expected to begin operations in the second half of 2027 and will be capable of processing approximately 295,000 tons of organic waste annually into compost and mulch. The current facility will continue operating during construction and is the only permitted commercial composting center in Ventura County.
“This larger center is greatly needed,” said Bill Camarillo, Agromin CEO. “Under SB 1383, jurisdictions must divert 75 percent of their organic waste from landfills and then compost and distribute the resulting materials. There aren’t enough processing facilities to meet the demand. The Santa Paula location will be a big help.”
Last year, Agromin opened Ventura County’s first dedicated food waste recycling center in Oxnard. Waste haulers deliver food waste to the facility, where it is shredded, cleaned and converted into a slurry. The slurry is then used to produce renewable natural gas, organic fertilizers, animal feed pellets and compost.
