Tuesday 3-3
6:01am, observed NOAA issued a Small Craft Advisory, raised warning pennant
3:00pm, received report that Cal Wildlife netting tender will be in the area today tomorrow attempting to capture oiled birds, so they can rehabilitate them.
7:51, dispatched to a 67 y/o patient with shortness of breath in VWM B-dock. Officers responded with VFD/AMR to assist with patient assessment.
Wednes 3-4
6:30, observed NOAA issued a Gale Warning, raised warning pennants.
11:30am, returning navigation buoys #8, #9 and #14 back on station. The buoys were moved by Manson construction for maintenance dredging recently.
Thursday 3/5
7:10am, observed Gale Warning still in effect, warning pennants still up.
8:50am, while on patrol in Rescue Boat 19 officers observed navigation buoy #9 in the main channel was off-station, returned to station.
4:20pm, received request from owner of RV for storage and/or camping in the harbor. Advised no camping in the harbor, but offered several alternatives.
Friday 3/6
7:17am, observed NOAA issued a Small Craft Advisory, raised warning pennant
8:00am, officers on scene of Ventura Marina Community tenant celebrating her 100th birthday! Well done, happy birthday.
12:00pm, while on patrol in the truck, officers observed construction crew slurry coating and re-striping Surfers Knoll parking lot.
Saturday 3/7
7:01am, Small Craft Advisory still in effect, warning pennant still raised.
8:30am, officers assisted State Parks Lifeguards with a requal/tryout swim in front of LG Headquarters with water safety provided from the Fireboat. East winds effected the tryout by moving the swim buoys offshore.
9:30am, while returning from tryout swim, officers observed 2 human powered watercraft outside the harbor. Convinced the pair to return to the harbor due to the rapid increase in East winds. Escorted the 2 back into the harbor.
Sunday 3/8
6:30am, east winds still blowing, Small Craft still up, warning pennant also up.
9:25am, dispatched to hazard report, downed powerline near Surfers Knoll lot. Officers responded, found the reported hazard, broken flag banner on a light pole. Officers remained on scene while maintenance secured the flag.
Monday 3/9
6:00am, the Small Craft Advisory continues, warning pennant and lights on.
2:02pm, dispatched to a vehicle fire in harbor village. Officers responded with VFD to assist. The fire was extinguished, caused by overheating hearing aids.
Tuesday 3/10
9:13am, dispatched to petroleum spill at VHV C-dock, commercial vessel “Pioneer.” Officers responded with US coast guard, boarded the vessel with full fire turnouts, SCBA. Petroleum was discovered in the bilge, USCG issued a notification of official federal investigation (NOFI) so the vessels owner was influenced to mitigate the leak and clean the bilge of fuel and oil.
3:06pm, received report of a vessel in danger of going aground. Officers responded in Fireboat, found the 35ft sailboat not in distress, ½ mile off the breakwall. One of the 2 POB’s was upset they were considered in danger and advised responders that, “we did NOT say it was an emergency, just no anchor!”
