Harbor Patrol Blotter

Tuesday 12/9

11:30am, while on patrol, officers contacted local rental boat owner about upcoming “Parade-of-lights,” specifically safety and parade route.

2:40pm, while on patrol in the truck, officers placed a tow notice in VIM lot to a derelict vehicle that appeared abandoned.

Wednesday 12/10

8:12am, dispatched to a fall patient in the Ventura Marina Community.  Officers responded with VFD/AMR to assist with patient treatment and assessment.

4:00pm, observed a 43ft powerboat anchored outside the harbor near the surfline.  Officers responded in Rescue Boat 19, took the vessel in short tow to the launch ramp fuel dock to repair fuel lines.  Skipper was able to repair lines.

Thursday 12/11

5:46pm, dispatched to 64 y/o male with abdominal pain in the Ventura Marina Community.  Officers responded with AMR/VFD to assist with patient treatment

7:48pm, dispatched to 80 y/o male with nausea in the Ventura Marina Community.  Officers responded with AMR/VFD to assist with patient treatment

Friday 12/12

7:10am, officers conducting maintenance/diagnostics on Rescue Watercraft after running poorly yesterday during training.  After utilizing code reader computer, overheating issues are being attributed to debris likely sucked up the Impaler.

4:45pm, officers utilizing all patrol boats to set up parade-of-lights parade route buoys, then to monitor the 1st night of the 49th annual parade.

7:05pm, during the middle of the parade, Fishing Trawler inbound and impeding parade traffic.  Officers attempting to communicate, unable to, language barrier.

8:01pm, observed a commercial fishing vessel inbound, navigating through the closed main channel for the fireworks show.  Attempted to stop vessel, skipper  acting indignant, ignoring officers attempt to stop vessel.

Saturday 12/13

5:56pm, dispatched to a seizure patient in the Portside complex.  Officers responded with AMR/VFD to assist with patient assessment and treatment.

6:30pm, 49th annual Ventura Harbor Parade of lights begins.  35 vessels are in the parade, and many more are stagged throughout the harbor watching parade.

7:38pm, received report of a person hit by a vehicle during a dispute for a parking spot in the harbor village.  Officers responded with Ventura PD, assisting with de-escalating the dispute.  No injuries occurred, both parties left.

8:42pm, received report of a disabled vessel in the A-Basin near VIM.  Officers taking the vessel en tow until TowBoat US arrives to take over the tow.

Sunday 12/14

12:25am, assisting an individual find their vehicle in the Harbor Village parking lot.  They forgot where they parked, assisted in locating.

8:06am, found a 5mph buoy that apparently a vessel dragged off-station last night during the parade.  Towed the vessel back to the “A-Basin,” put on station.

11:00am, observed an 8ft log in the entrance, officers removed it, towed it to the launch ramp for removal by the patrol vehicle.

Monday 12/15

10:55am, received a call from an individual who lost multiple items during the parade of lights carnival in Harbor Village, he thinks someone “roofied” him.

Tuesday 12/16

6:00pm, officers taking Ventura PD police explorers on ride-alongs on Fireboat and Rescue Boat 19 to view “Keys” holiday lights, tour around response area.

9:54pm, observed a thick and heavy fog bank roll in, visibility less than ¼ mile.  Officers activated fog-signal, depressing VHF radio channel 81A several times.

Wednesday 12/17

7:24am, observed outbound commercial fleet fishing vessel in excess of speed/wake ordinance.  Attempted to hail on VHF 16, but was unsuccessful.

7:00pm, received report of alarms sounding on a 88ft motor vessel in Safe Harbor.  Officers responded, gained access to the vessel, but were unable to secure the alarms or even find out what they were sounding for.  Will check later

Thursday 12/18

9:30am, dispatched to medical in the Ventura Marina Community.  Officers responded with VFD/AMR to assist with patient treatment and assessment.

4:30pm, while on patrol in Rescue Boat 19, officers observed a petroleum sheen near Safe Harbor A-dock.  After investigation, unable to locate source.

Friday 12/19

7:00am, officers working on tide gauge project at the longdock.  The current “king tides” have hampered attempts to finish the project.

9:00am, officers performing maintenance on Fireboat components : shut off handle, gated Y valve and hose packs.

1:16pm, received report that CI Harbors’ Fireboat is out-of-service.  Ventura Harbor Fireboat will be the on call vessel for boat fires in Ventura County.

1:25pm, while on patrol in Fireboat, officers observed a 38ft sailboat adrift.  As Fireboat approached, found Derektor boatyard tow vessel assisting the sailboat.

3:26pm, while on patrol in the truck, received report of a lost child near Surfers Knoll.  Officers assisted in the search, the lost person was found.

7:05pm, dispatched to smoke alarm in the Ventura Marina Community.  Officers responded with VFD, were able to secure the malfunctioning alarm.

Saturday 12/20

11:00am, officers monitoring the “Santa Paddle” starting in the South Basin.

3:50pm, dispatched to a fall patient in the village, near Brophy’s.  Officers responded, the patient refused any medical attention, released AMA.

6:32pm, dispatched to fall patient at Holiday Inn Express.  Officers responded with AMR/VFD to assist with patient assessment and treatment.

Sunday 12/21

6:53am, dispatched to seizure patient at 4points Sheraton. Officers responded with AMR/VFD to assist with patient treatment and assessment.

11:10am, officers performing maintenance of Fireboat 1, replacing the float switch for the middle bilge of the boat.

1:30pm, dispatched to Ocean Rescue, kite surfer in distress at Ventura Point.  Offices responded in Fireboat 1 to assist State Parks with the rescue. The victim was taken aboard the Fireboat with kite, but unable to locate kiteboard.

Monday 12/22

6:02am, observed NOAA issued a Gale Warning for Tuesday, raised pennants.
