Harbor Patrol Blotter

Tues 9/16 10:00am, while on patrol in Harborwatch vessel, observed a large fishing seiner dropping anchor in the main channel.  Officers took the vessel en tow along with Tow Boat US to return the vessel to its slip in the commercial slips.

9:00pm, observed a vehicle in the District lot with hazard lights on for some time.  Officers able to open vehicle with windows partially open, secure lights.

Wed 9/17 5:55pm, observed NOAA issued Small Craft Advisory, raised warning pennant.

10:17am, responding to Vision rentals to discuss a recent boating accident incident.  Officers investigating report due to different accounts of the incident.

1:04pm, observing work to Fireboat in the boatyard.  Work includes “spurs” added to the shafts for cutting seaweed and hoop net/fishing lines.

2:42pm, dispatched to an Ocean Rescue, kite surfer in distress at Rincon point.  Officers were cancelled en route, distressed kite surfer was able to self-rescue.

11:36pm, observing a massive lightning storm near the Channel Islands.

Thurs 9/18 3:43am, dispatched to seizure/behavioral patient in the Portside complex.  Officers responded with Ventura PD/FD & AMR to assist with patient treatment

4:20am, observing constant rain and inclement weather from tropical storm.

9:50am, dispatched to a sick person in the Ventura Marina Community.  Officers responded with VFD/AMR to assist with patient treatment and assessment.

12:31pm, observed a 7.8 magnitude earthquake off Kamchatka Russia.  Monitoring tsunami.gov for updates on event.  Eventually no threat determined.

Friday 9/19 8:55am, officers performing maintenance on Harborwatch lifeguard vessel, specifically general mechanics of the engines and how to remove spark plugs.

9:25am, received request to access new dry storage area from Ventura Water.  They needed to access two “man-holes” located in the lot.

12:10pm, observing an inexperienced kayaker launching an inflatable at the longdock.  After lengthy conversation with the individual, they deployed, struggled, then were rescued/towed back to the dock by officers aboard RB-19.

Sat 9/20 6:30am, observed NOAA issued Small Craft Advisory, raised warning pennant.

8:50am, while on patrol in Fireboat, observed a petroleum sheen near commercial docks from repeat offender boat.  Officers contacted USCG marine safety division and reported the violation.  Incident under investigation.

4:47pm, dispatched to Ocean Rescue at Ventura Pier for a distressed paddler.  Officers responded in Fireboat, assist State Parks escorting victim to shore.

Sun 9/21 11:10am, received report of local transient screaming in the launch ramp restrooms.  Officers responded, convinced individual to leave, twice.

3:17pm, dispatched to a vessel aground on the breakwall.  Officers responded in the Fireboat, located the vessel not in distress just fishing very close to rocks.

Monday 9/22 7:20am, received report of a large hazard-to-navigation in the A-basin.  Officers responded in Fireboat, removed the large submerged dock float.

1:15pm, received report of a sealion in storm drain on Harbor Blvd.  Observed sealion as reported, contacted CIMWI, they investigated but sealion was gone.
