Alex Waites, of Resin. A. Waites to host in-person workshop Nov. 10

On November 10th from 2pm to 5pm or later, Alex Waites, of Resin. A. Waites will be hosting an in-person workshop for artistic healing and learning. He will teach his methodology of resin and mixed media, not only going over the practice of art, but the healing that takes place within the creations.

Alex is offering two complimentary art lessons November 10th at the “THE SPACE” in Ventura. 1779 E. Main Street. Other class attendees will pay a nominal fee for materials and space provided, along with intimate art instruction.

Alex the owner and operator of Xpanded Therapies, specializing in physical healing through Brain Balance, Bodywork, Cupping, and BioMag Pulsed Electromagnetic Therapy. The balance of left brain/right brain brings forth “art healing” through two distinct methods. Art and Physical Health.

Benefit Art Sale with original pieces donated by the family of Hank and Susan Stouz Nov. 10

A benefit Art Sale with original pieces donated by the family of Hank and Susan Stouz will be held from 11 am – 3 pm on Nov. 10 at the Museum of Ventura County, located at 100 E. Main St. Also available for sale will be gently used art and cookbooks. Award winning painter, Susan Stoutz, is a signature member of the Gold Coast Watercolor Society and a member of the Buenaventura Art Association, Ojai Art Center, Oxnard Art Association, Ventura Artist Guild and Santa Paula Society of the Arts. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Ventura Friends of the Library and the Museum of Ventura County.

Focus on the Masters Volunteers presents their 6th annual Holiday Gift Shop located at the home of Chris & Kevin Beirne, 310 Cruzero Street in Meiners Oaks.  Their charming home is the perfect setting for unique, hand-made and lovingly crafted gifts by our local artists.

This is a great chance to meet with artists and friends, and shop for those special people on your list. The wine, gifts and wish lists happy hour on Saturday, Nov.17th from 4 – 7 will surely make your shopping extravaganza even more festive!

The Holiday Gift Shop will feature a variety of one-of-a-kind items including colorful quilts & totes, jewelry, decorative gourds, unique wearable art, charming felted wool creatures, ceramics, paintings and much more.  All items are produced by FOTM volunteers, staff, and outstanding Ventura County artists.

Joseph Cardella’s ART/LIFE in the Museum’s Pavilion

The ARTLIFE Foundation in cooperation with the Museum of Ventura County has set up an exhibit of Joseph Cardella’s works and issues of ART/LIFE in the Museum’s Pavilion.

On Friday November 2, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, a number of commentators will offer interpretations of Joe Cardella’s remarkable art on view at the Pavilion. You may have seen the intriguing works of this local genius, but have you tried to formulate what some of it might mean?

The event is free to Museum members, with a $5.00 fee for non-members and $3.00 for students and seniors.

ArtWalk Ventura

On Oct. 6&7 ArtWalk Ventura 2018 was held. ArtWalk Ventura is one of Ventura’s signature events, drawing thousands of art enthusiasts every year. Run by an all-volunteer group, this weekend event is focused on Ventura’s authentic art community. ArtWalk Ventura is a fun, virtually free, self-guided tour of dozens of galleries, studios, pop-up venues and transformed PODS Containers in Ventura’s Westside Cultural District and historic Downtown.

Just a few of the artists featured in the PODS were Sam Roque, Wood Works, Belinda Del Pesco, Cassandra Tondro and 4-year old Vivian Sky. For more information about ArtWalk visit www.artwalkventura.org.

The inkspots of San Buenaventura are a group of artists dedicated to creating original prints using a variety of techniques including etching, collagraph, linocut, monoprint, monotype, woodblock, and digital manipulation.

Museum hosts Chicano artists at signing event

The Museum of Ventura County will host a catalog release event, 5:15 to 6 p.m., Nov. 1, at 100 E. Main St. The Ayer y Todavia catalog features the artwork of the 2017 Ayer y Todavia exhibit which included artists Margaret Garcia, Xavier Montes, Veronica Valadez, Ignacio Gomez and Patssi Valdez, among others. Several of the artists will be on hand to sign catalogs and share insight on their work. Catalogs are $20.

Admission to the event is free and is part of a larger Día de los Muertos celebration at the Museum featuring altars created by the Federacion de Clubes Guanajuatenses, music provided by local composer and guitarist Javier San Roman, artwork by visiting Guanajuato master craftsman Eduardo Serrano Moreno, who will create a sawdust “mandala-like” art piece, and several current pageant winners from the different states in Mexico dressed in their states’ official costumes. No-host bar. For more information call (805) 653-0323.
