CAPS Thanks Ventura—And Invites You to Create This SummerEvery CAPS Crew member is thankful for the overwhelming support the Ventura community has recently expressed for CAPS. Following CAPS’ annual presentation to the city council on April 8 the public responded with an ever-growing number of letters and emails to thecity supporting the services that CAPS provides in Ventura. Thank you all for your support. CAPS encourages and welcomes additional comments. For those who want to add your voice, please contact your district councilmember (information at cityofventura.ca.gov).
Also, CAPS is inviting the public to join fellow CAPS supporters on Tuesday, May 6th at the city council meeting at city hall to express support for CAPS. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 5pm with public comments usually near the start of the meeting. You can join in person or online via zoom.
In the coming months there is more in store from CAPS. In May and June CAPS crews will record and live stream graduation ceremonies for Ventura College, on May 23, and for all VUSD high schools on June 3, 4 and 5. On June 23-27 the CAPS KPPQ Radio crew will hold a special POD Save the Summer Workshop in the KPPQ radio studio in the CAPS Media Center. In a creative week of hands-on learning, young storytellers, entertainers and influencers, ages 14-18, will discover how to produce, record, edit and stream their own podcasts. In July, CAPS’ extremely popular Future Filmmakers Workshops returns with two week-long programs for young filmmakers ages 10-14. This summer there are two creative tracks to explore. Session I, July 14-18, will be a Live Action Video Workshop where crews working in teams of four or five are actively engaged in hands-on, experiential learning to create their own video productions. The week-long program includes story development, scripting, casting, staging, directing, camera production, video composition, lighting, remote and in-studio production, graphic design, editing and more. Session II, July 28-August 1 will be a Stop Motion Animation Workshop, bringing another engaging and immersive creative dimension to filmmaking.
Both programs, will be directed by CAPS creative and experienced staff members who are dedicated filmmakers and storytellers. Each weeklong session runs Monday – Friday, from 8:30am to 1:00pm at the CAPS Media Center. The program fee is $250 for the week and includes 5 4-hour sessions, a one-year family membership at CAPS, a CAPS Crew Member shirt, graduation certificate and a special evening film festival for friends and family. To learn more about what CAPS has to offer, everyone in the community to join the CAPS Media Center orientation on the first Monday of each month. The evening begins at 6pm and includes a tour of the CAPS studio, information on CAPS membership benefits and resources available to members.
