Local resident Scott McCarty recently went on trip to Japan and had dinner at a nice little French-Japanese fusion restaurant, Gramercy Table, very close to his hotel in the Ginza district.

During the course of the dinner, I came to be friends with the owner, Kaz, who lived for three years in New York City. (He took the name for his restaurant from the well-known Gramercy Tavern in NYC.) We talked about Los Angeles, the Lakers, the Dodgers, Ichiro Suzuki, and Ventura. It’s an understatement to say I was blown away when, at the end of the meal, he brought out a complimentary dessert: vanilla ice cream with a piece of chocolate cake shaped and adorned like our hometown welcome sign!
