The nomination period for Ventura’s Nov. 3, 2026, General Municipal Election opens Monday, July 13. Voters will elect City Council members representing Districts 1, 4, 5, and 6.
To be eligible, candidates must be City of Ventura residents, registered voters, and eligible to vote in the district they seek to represent.
Prospective candidates must schedule an appointment with the City Clerk’s Office to receive nomination papers and complete the filing process. Appointments take about one hour and may be scheduled by calling 805-658-4787 or emailing cityclerk@cityofventura.ca.gov.
The nomination period closes at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7. If an eligible incumbent in a district does not file by the deadline, the filing period for that district will be extended through 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, for candidates other than the incumbent.
The City Clerk’s Office will host a Candidate Information Session at 6 p.m. Monday, July 13, in the City Council Chambers. The session will cover the nomination process, filing requirements, election deadlines, and campaign finance rules. Attendance is optional but encouraged.
City Hall is normally closed every other Friday, including Aug. 7, the final filing day. On that date, the City Clerk’s Office will be available by appointment only for candidate filing.
