Police Report: Train Collision and Lewd Act On Child

From Ventura Police Department

Incident: Train Collision with Pedestrian Fatality

Location: 2200 Block of Vista Del Mar Drive

On December 12, 2024, at approximately 1103 hours, the Ventura Police Department received a call reporting a pedestrian throwing objects from the railroad overcrossing at Seaward Avenue and Channel Drive. One caller reported that their vehicle had been struck by an object during the incident. While officers were enroute to that call, at approximately 1106 hours, the Department received an additional call reporting a train had struck a pedestrian in the 2200 block of Vista Del Mar Drive. Upon arrival, officers located the pedestrian, a 47-year-old male, who had sustained severe injuries. Paramedics transported the individual to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the pedestrian struck by the train was the same individual responsible for causing an object to fall from the railroad overcrossing onto Seaward Avenue. Initial reports described the object as a brick; however, officers found no evidence to substantiate this. Numerous large rocks were located along the railroad tracks, and it was determined that a rock was the likely object that struck a vehicle on Seaward Avenue. The events leading up to the pedestrian being struck by the train remain under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Ventura Police Department at 805-650-8010.

During the investigation, detectives discovered Villegas had been involved with several youth organizations across the state and believe there may be additional victims.

Major Crimes Detectives are asking anyone with information related to any potential crimes committed by Villegas to contact Detective Gray at (805)339-4472 or Detective Hain at (805) 339-4465
