Older adults are increasingly returning to the workforce, driven by a combination of personal and financial reasons. Some seek employment to stay active, maintain social connections or pursue a sense of purpose after retirement. Others face economic pressures, such as rising living costs, insufficient retirement savings or the need to support family members.
However, re-entering the workforce can present challenges. Older workers may encounter age discrimination, difficulties in adapting to new technologies or a lack of opportunities matching their skills and experience. Additionally, physical limitations or health concerns can complicate their ability to meet the demands of certain jobs.
Despite these obstacles, many older adults bring valuable expertise, reliability and diverse perspectives, making them important contributors to the modern workplace. Here are some
resources that might assist individuals seeking employment:
Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP)
The Title V Senior Community Services Employment Training Program (SCSEP) provides limited employment training and wages for low-income persons aged 55 and older. This program helps older adults seeking employment to gain the skills needed in today’s job market. SCSEP is funded by the U.S. Department of Labor and focuses on the needs of mature workers, the community, and employers.

Ventura County Works
The Workforce Development Board of Ventura County and America’s Job Center of California provide assistance through Ventura County Works.
