Focus on the Masters Arts Archive & Library Learning To See Outreach Impact Project Art Exhibit

LGBTQ Impact Project by Joe; untitled

Ventura County Government Center
Hall of Administration Atrium Gallery
800 S Victoria Ave, Ventura
October 6 – November 11, 2022
Reception: Friday, October 8, 2022 4:30pm – 6:30pm

The public is invited to join Focus on the Masters Arts Archive & Library (FOTM) for a celebration of the creative spirit by underrepresented communities in our community with the Impact Project. With funding from the California Arts Council, this exhibit features collaborative artworks by each of the Immigrant, LGBTQ and Black communities of Ventura County.

This exhibit is a testament to the value of individual and community expression. We asked, “What would you want to express as a member of an historically underrepresented community?” One of the immigrant participants was taken aback and stated that no one had ever asked her that question. Her reaction underscores the need for these types of community projects where lesser seen points of view are illuminated.

Also featured is artwork by k-8 students who participated in our Learning To See Outreach (LTS) in-school art program.

A few months ago we gave our artists multiple blank 8”x8” canvases and asked them to bring back their best work! They have been working diligently and without much fanfare to create new artwork — pieces that they (and we!) are definitely proud of.

The result will be an exhibit of over 60 8×8 canvases, as well as a dozen or more 8×10 matted photos and works on paper, that are fresh off the easel, and that our artists have donated to us so that all proceeds from the sale of these gems will go to Buenaventura Art Association.

The best part is that all of these works will be priced at only $49!

“Joyful Expressions” Art Reception November 12th, 5 – 7 pm

Show dates November 10 – January 8

Fox Fine Jewelry presents Joyful Expressions, an art show with Linda Kidd and Bonny Butler from November 10th to January 8th, with an Art Reception on November 12th from 5 – 7 pm.

Linda Kidd grew up surrounded by artists. Linda Kidd still takes art classes to this day, having studied with Terry Masters, David Gallup, and Carolyn Smith, among others.

Bonny Butler was a dog groomer since she was 16 – she even owned her own dog grooming business! One day, she decided she had enough of the noise – from the phones ringing, the blow dryers drying, the water running – and signed up for Watercolor 101.

At the Museum of Ventura County

Melina Sempill Watts’ first novel Tree is an exploration of 229 years through the point of view of a California oak. Artist Jeff Sojka painted his vision of the tree’s reality. This cross-media exhibit, on-site and virtually, will expand your relationship to nature and its inherent consciousness.

Exhibit runs through October 2.

Gallery Walk with Hiroko Yoshimoto. Santa Paula Art Museum

Biodiversity # 120 50″ x 102″, oil on canvas, 2019

117 N 10th St, Santa Paula. Monday, October 10, 1:00 p.m.

Art isn’t one thing. It doesn’t inspire identical reactions from all viewers. Art inspires, educates. Consciously or not, our responses to works of art help us understand the world around us. Artist Hiroko Yoshimoto inspires us to think deeply. Her work has the power to amaze us. This is especially true of her body of work known as Biodiversity.

Hiroko will share her thoughts about the ecological damage to our planet occurring every day, man’s role in that destruction, and nature’s response.

This event is limited to 20 guests. Suggested donation $20. Attendees who are not members of Santa Paula Museum of Art are asked to pay the Museum’s admission price ($4 adults’ $3 seniors) at the time of the event. Reservations required by October 7.

Also showing is a large-scale installation titled Impending Storms, based on the theme of saving endangered species. Working in collaboration with the Blue Marble Art Collective.

Space is limited! RSVP: FocusontheMasters.com, at 805-653-2501 or [email protected]
