Vol. 12, No. 8 – Jan 16 – Jan 29, 2019 – Police Reports

Robbery and Possession of Burglary Tools Arrest

On January 4, at approximately 5pm, the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a 911 call from Vons reporting that the suspect, 30 year old vagrant Patrick Rasmusson, had entered Vons, selected merchandise and walked out without paying. When employees confronted Rasmusson, he pulled out a canister of pepper spray and threatened to spray the employees. Fearing being pepper sprayed, the employees let Rasmusson walk away with the property and called police.

Officers responded and located Rasmusson in the area and took him into custody without incident. During the arrest, officers located the pepper spray and numerous tools that could be used for burglary.

Rasmusson was arrested and booked at the Ventura County Jail for Robbery and Possession of Burglary Tools. No one was injured as a result of this incident

A review of the Ventura County Superior Court website shows that Rasmusson has been arrested for drug charges, prowling and possession of burglary tools.

Vehicle Pursuit and Arrest

On January 8, at approximately 10:45am, a Ventura police officer was on patrol and saw a vehicle with an equipment violation in the area of Sherwin Ave. and Ventura Blvd. The officer initiated a traffic stop and contacted the driver, later identified as 27 year old Oxnard resident Ryean Hanks. As the officer was speaking to Hanks, she indicated that she was wanted and fled from the traffic stop. A vehicle pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued northbound on Sherwin Ave., then eastbound on Crescent St. Hanks then turned on Johnson Dr., and as she attempted to navigate a turn onto eastbound Capri Ave., Hanks lost control of the vehicle and collided into an unoccupied parked vehicle in front of Taco Bell. She fled from the vehicle on foot.

The officer pursued Hanks on foot and caught her after a brief foot pursuit. Hanks fought with the officer and after a brief struggle, she was taken into custody. During a search, officers discovered that Hanks was in possession of a controlled substance.

Both the officer and Hanks sustained minor injuries as a result of the arrest. No one else was injured in this incident.

Hanks was arrested for misdemeanor evading arrest in a vehicle, felony resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and two warrants, an out of county felony and misdemeanor.

Hit and Run, DUI, Battery on a Peace Officer

On January 8, at approximately 6:30pm, the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a 911 call of a hit and run collision in the area Telephone Rd. and Jasper Ave. in the city of Ventura. The witness told dispatchers that the driver of an SUV hit a tree and was trying to leave the area. After colliding with the tree, the driver of the vehicle, 32 year old David Malijan, made a u-turn and attempted to drive away from the collision. Due to the damage the vehicle sustained from the collision, Malijan stopped his SUV a short distance away and walked away.

The first responding officer found Malijan’s SUV unoccupied and began searching the area. During the search, Malijan was found a short distance away. During the contact, the officers started to ask Malijan what happened but Malijan was uncooperative and took a fighting stance on the officer. The officer attempted to detain Malijan to further his investigation, but Mailijan began to violently resist the officer and a struggle ensued. As more officers arrived, Malijan was eventually subdued and taken into custody.

No officers were injured during the incident and Malijan was treated for minor injuries. Malijan was arrested for hit and run, DUI drugs and resisting a police officer.

Robbery and Assault with a Deadly Weapon

On January 10, at approximately 12:30am, the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a 911 call of a fight in the Santa Clara Parking Structure with one person bleeding. Upon the officer’s arrival it was determined that a group of people were walking to their car that was parked in the structure. They were approached by another small group of Hispanic males and a Hispanic female. The suspect group began asking the victims where they were from and then attacked them. During the altercation, three victims were punched. A fourth victim was stabbed in the torso by one off the attackers who also stole his cell phone.

The victims who were punched received minor injuries and were treated on scene by paramedics. The victim who was stabbed is currently in stable condition at a local hospital. VPD CSI responded to process the crime scene. VPD detectives are now on scene conducting further investigation. This is an ongoing investigation, anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to call the Ventura Police Department at 805-339-4488.

Vol. 12, No. 7 – Jan 3 – Jan 15, 2019 – Police Reports

Attempted Murder, Terrorist Threats, Felony Child Endangerment, Felony Vandalism

On December 17, at approximately 7pm, the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a call of a family disturbance and reports that one of the family members, later identified as the suspect, 20 year old Ventura resident Gabriel Estrada, was making threats and had armed himself with a hammer.

As officers arrived on scene, they observed the victim, a 43-year-old female, running from the apartment with Estrada chasing after her. Officers saw Estrada hit the victim, who was later determined to be Estrada’s mother, in the head with the hammer. After deploying a taser, which was not effective, officers tackled Estrada and took him into custody.

The victim was treated at the scene by Ventura City Fire personnel, and later transported to VCMC for non-life threatening injuries.

During the investigation, officers learned that Estrada forced his way into a bedroom prior to officers arriving and had made verbal threats towards his 14-year-old sister. She was not injured as a result of this crime.

After being cleared from VCMC for minor injuries he sustained as a result of the arrest, Estrada was booked into the Ventura County Jail for attempted murder, terrorist threats, felony child endangerment and felony vandalism.

Vehicle Break-In, Property Theft

On December 19, at approximately 10:30pm , the Ventura Police Command Center received a 911call from the victim indicating she was holding down and detaining the suspect, 22 year old Ventura resident Erick Stevenson who had just broken into her car. Officers arrived on scene and found the victim and suspect a block from her car.

During the investigation, it was learned that the victim worked nearby on East Main St. and went to leave when she forgot something at her place of work. She left her car unlocked and walked in her business for a minute and returned to find Stevenson rummaging through her car. The victim confronted Stevenson and tried to detain him physically. Stevenson began to struggle with the victim and pushed her down. Stevenson fled from the scene with some of the victim’s property, and the victim gave chase. The victim caught Stevenson a block away and tackled him to the ground. The victim struggled with Stevenson again and was finally able to detain him until police arrived and took Stevenson into custody.

The victim suffered minor injuries during the struggle she had with Stevenson and was treated at the scene.

Stevenson had minor scrapes and was treated at the scene. Stevenson was booked at the Ventura County Jail for Robbery.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon Arrest

On December 24, at approximately 6:45pm, the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a 911 call from a caller reporting that he was just hit by a vehicle near the intersection of Ash St. and Front St. The 28-year- old victim and the suspect, later identified as 59 year old vagrant Kevin Mateas, were known to each other and got into a verbal argument. Mateas was leaving in his vehicle and intentionally struck the victim as he left. The victim sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene.

Officers checked the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.

At approximately 1940 hrs, Mateas had driven to the Ventura Police Department and was contacted in the parking lot of the station. After further investigation, Mateas was taken into custody. He was later booked into the Ventura County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon.

A review of the Ventura County Superior Court website shows that Mateas has no prior convictions.

Vol. 12, No. 6 – Dec 19, 2018 – Jan 2, 2019 – Police Reports

Prowling Arrest

On December 4, at approximately 8:30pm, the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a 911 call from a resident in the 2400 Block of Lexington Dr. reporting that she had just returned home and there was an unknown male subject in her backyard. The Reporting party further said that all of her gates were locked and the subject had to jump her fence to gain entry into her backyard.

Officers were dispatched to the area and located a subject matching the description the Reporting Party had given dispatch at the corner of North Katherine Dr. and East Main St. This subject was identified as 27 year old Simi Valley resident Christopher Bruney. Bruney was later positively identified as the subject who was in the Reporting Party’s yard and placed under citizen’s arrest.

After the arrest, Bruney was searched and found to be in possession of a usable quantity of Methamphetamines.

A review of the Ventura County Superior Court website shows that Bruney has been recently arrested for brandishing a deadly weapon and Hit and Run.

Theft from Person and Elder Abuse *Update with Arrests*

On November 17, at approximately 3:30pm, the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a 911 call of a purse theft that just occurred near the intersection of Potomac Ave. and Kennebec St. The suspect was last seen getting into an awaiting vehicle being driven by another suspect and fleeing the area northbound towards Northbank Dr. The suspect vehicle was described as a white, later model SUV.

During the investigation, officers determined the 73-year-old female victim was walking down the street when she was approached by the suspect. The suspect grabbed the victim’s purse and pulled it from her shoulder. He then got into the awaiting vehicle, which fled the area.

VPD Detectives reviewed surveillance video in the stores where the victim’s credit cards were later used, and identified all (3) suspects, 18 year old Ventura resident Kaleb Dixon, 18 year old Thousand Oaks resident Josiah Shephard and a 16 year old male juvenile from Thousand Oaks.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon (Stabbing)

On December 6, at approximately 4pm, the Ventura Police Command Center received a call of a physical fight in the 1400 block of Chipmunk Circle in the City of Ventura. The reporting party noted that one of the persons involved in the fight was lying on the ground.

Ventura Police patrol officers responded to the area of Chipmunk Circle and located one of the parties involved, later identified as 31 year old Ventura resident Carlos Gonzalez. At about the same time, a Ventura Police officer assigned to the Ventura County Medical Center informed patrol officers that a stabbing victim had arrived at the hospital, claiming to have been stabbed while involved in a fight.

Officers ultimately learned that the victim was walking his dog when he came across Gonzalez and his brother. Gonzalez kicked the victim’s dog and then insisted on fighting the victim. The victim attempted to avoid a fight; however, Gonzalez would not stop instigating a fight. Ultimately, Gonzalez and the victim became involved in a physical fight. During the fight, Gonzalez pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim two times in the upper body. The victim then had a family member drive him to the hospital.

Officers contacted Gonzalez and his brother near the scene of the stabbing and took Gonzalez into custody without incident. Gonzalez was booked into the Ventura County Pretrial Detention Facility for Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

The victim’s injuries were moderate, but not life threatening.

Armed Robbery

On December 7, at approximately 5pm, two male suspects entered the Rabobank located at 1171 S. Victoria Avenue in the City of Ventura. At least one of the suspects was armed with a handgun. The suspects demanded money from the bank tellers and were ultimately given an undisclosed amount of cash. After gathering the cash, both suspects fled on foot to a white vehicle that was parked nearby and they were last seen driving away southbound through the parking lot.

Both suspects were wearing nylon stockings over their face and head. One suspect was wearing a grey colored hoodie sweatshirt and dark pants. The other suspect was wearing a dark T-shirt and dark pants.

At the time of the robbery, there were several bank employees and a few customers present inside the bank. One customer was shoved aside as a suspect attempted to gather money off of the counter, but nobody was injured during the robbery.

Sexual Assault and Burglary Arrest

On December 7 at 7am, the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a 911 call from an adult female reporting that she had just been sexually assaulted in a room at the Ventura Beach House Motel, 1220 E. Thompson Blvd. The suspect, later identified as 38 year old vagrant Jesus Arreola, who was known to the victim and others at the motel, was last seen fleeing from the area on foot.

Officers arrived on scene and learned that Arreola had forced his way into the victim’s motel room and assaulted her while she was sleeping. Officers checked the area, but were unable to locate Arreola.

Today, 12/08/18, at approximately 1100 hours, officers saw Arreola walking in the area of E. Main St. and Lang St. He was contacted and taken into custody without incident.

Battery on Police Officer and Felony Resisting Arrest

On December 11, at approximately 9:30pm, the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a 911call from a resident in the 500 Block of Lincoln Drive reference a subject who was disturbing in the area and appeared to be under the influence. Officers arrived on scene and contacted a subject later identified as 27 year old Simi Valley resident Christopher Bruney who was outside of his car and walking in the middle of the road. Officers ordered Bruney to the side of the road, but Bruney refused and got into his car and drove away.

Officers followed Bruney as he stopped a short distance away. Officers contacted Bruney and asked for his compliance and for him to step out of the car to determine if he was safe to drive. Bruney refused and began to swing his fists at officers, hitting them. Officers attempted to control Bruney who continued to resist, and officers had to deploy a Taser. More officers arrived on scene as Bruney continued to struggle. Bruney was finally taken into custody.

The two initial responding officers suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene and returned to full duty.

After the arrest, Bruney was searched and found to be in possession of a usable quantity of Methamphetamines.

Vol. 12, No. 5 – Dec 5 – Dec 18, 2018 – Police Reports

Threats against a Peace Office arrest

On November 23, at approximately 8:30pm, a Ventura patrol officer saw a subject laying down on the sidewalk in the area of Chestnut and Thompson. The officer contacted the subject identified as 40-year-old vagrant Michael Anderson and learned he was on probation. More Ventura police officers arrived on the scene, and they began to conduct a probation search on Anderson. During the search, Anderson made a direct threat to one of the officers. The threat was credible, and Anderson was arrested for the threat.

A search of the Ventura County Superior Court website shows that Anderson has been arrested six times in 2018, three of those cases are still open. The officer returned to work after being treated.

Trespassing on Railroad Property and Resisting Arrest

On November 24, at approximately 9:45pm, the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a call from the Union Pacific Railroad dispatch reporting that a subject was on the roof top of the train and refusing to get off. The northbound Amtrak train, which was occupied by numerous passengers, was stopped at the train platform adjacent to the Ventura County Fairgrounds.

Officers arrived on scene and attempted to make contact with the subject, later identified as 22-year-old Motaz Eljadaa. Eljadaa refused orders to climb down off the train and continued running back and forth on the roof of the train, in an attempt to elude officers. Before officers could access the train’s roof top, Eljadaa suddenly climbed down and fled on foot, during which time he attempted to hide in a tree. Officers caught him and took Eljadaa into custody.

Amtrak employees reported Eljadaa boarded the train in Moorpark and had been causing several disturbances as the train stopped at each scheduled stop before arriving in Ventura.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon

On November 24, at approximately 3:40pm, the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a call of a family disturbance and reports that one of the family members, later identified as a 56-year-old male adult had been stabbed with a screwdriver. Officers, along with Ventura City Fire and AMR personnel, responded to the call and found the victim suffering from multiple non-life-threatening injuries to his upper body. He was treated at the scene by medical personnel and later transported to VCMC for treatment of his injuries. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Ventura resident Andrew Ricardez, had fled the residence prior to officers arriving on scene.

During the investigation, officers determined the victim and Ricardez, who are father and son, got into a verbal argument. Ricardez armed himself with a screwdriver and stabbed the victim several times. Ricardez was contacted later at another family member’s residence and taken into custody. He was booked into the Ventura County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon.

Possession of a Knife on a School Campus, Resisting Arrest and Warrants

On November 26 at approximately 2pm, the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a call from Gold Coast Transit reporting a subject possibly armed with a gun near the intersection of Telegraph Rd. and Palomares Ave. The information was second hand from a bus driver, who denied the subject entry onto a bus and said the gun was wrapped in a shirt.

Officers arrived on scene and observed the subject, later identified as 34-year-old Ventura resident Andrew Ortiz, walking near the YMCA on Telegraph Rd. As one of the officers was attempting to make contact with Ortiz, he fled onto the campus of Anacapa Middle School. The officer pursued Ortiz on foot and quickly took him into custody.

Traffic Pursuit with Arrest

On November 28 at approximately 1:30am, a Ventura Police Officer attempted to stop a Chevy truck on the 126 Freeway at Kimball Road for a traffic violation. The driver did not yield to the officer and fled. Officers pursued the vehicle onto Telephone Road and into a neighborhood south of Bristol Road and Ramelli Ave. The driver was not familiar with the area and turned onto a dead end street. Recognizing he could not continue to flee in his vehicle, the driver exited and fled on foot. Officers initiated a foot pursuit and caught the suspect after a short distance.

The suspect, 44-year-old Oxnard resident Joaquin Cano, was a parolee at large and had thrown methamphetamine out of the window of his vehicle during the pursuit, which was recovered by officers.

Armed Robbery

On October 20, at approximately 1:30pm, the suspects entered a business at 1839 E. Main St. They approached the employee at the counter, pulled out their guns and demanded money. The employee gave the suspects an undisclosed amount of money and the suspects left to the business. The suspects were last seen driving away eastbound in a white four-door compact vehicle.

Major Crimes Detectives began investigating this incident and several other similar armed robberies that occurred around the same time frame. After analyzing video surveillance and following up on investigative leads, Detectives identified 29-year-old Ventura resident Ernesto Solis as one of the suspects in the H&H Liquor store robbery. Solis was also wanted for a PROS violation and for providing false information to a police officer on two different occasions allowing him to avoid being arrested for his PROS warrant.

On November 27, at 6:30pm, Detectives located Solis near his residence in the 1700 Block of Olive Street and took him into custody without incident.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Elder Abuse Arrest

On November 29, at approximately 9:45am, officers responded to multiple reports of a fight near the businesses in the 5700 block of Telephone Road. When officers arrived, they found the elderly male victim to the front of the businesses. He was suffering from multiple lacerations and other non-life threatening injuries. The suspect, 56-year-old Ventura resident Tod Koep, was also located nearby and detained by officers.

The investigation revealed Koep was unprovoked when he approached the victim and struck him numerous times with closed fists. Koep was arrested for the felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse.

Attempt Carjacking and Attempt Kidnapping Arrest

On November 29, at 7:50pm, the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a 911 call from a female victim advising the suspect had attempted to get into her vehicle forcefully, and she described the suspect. Ventura College Police officers who were in the area saw a suspect matching the description and detained him.

Ventura Police officers arrived and conducted the investigation. A brief moment after the female victim got in her car, the suspect opened her car door and grabbed her. He made a gesture that he had a gun in his waistband and told her to move into the passenger seat.The victim resisted and began honking her horn which caused the suspect to stop his assault and flee.

The victim identified the suspect who was detained, Anthony Figueroa, 18 years of Ventura ,as the person who committed the crime. Through the investigation, it was determined the suspect was not armed with a handgun. No one was injured as a result of this crime. Figueroa was booked at Ventura County Jail for Attempt Carjacking and Attempt Kidnapping.

Vol. 12, No. 4 – Nov 21 – Dec 4, 2018 – Police Reports

Vehicle Pursuit Arrest

On November 11, at approximately 10pm, officers responded to the Victoria Village shopping center in regard to male who was acting erratically and driving his vehicle in circles outside the Vons supermarket. When officers arrived, they observed the suspect, 49 year old Ventura resident Joseph Jack driving a pickup truck in the parking lot while smoking a controlled substance.

Officers attempted an enforcement stop on Jack who refused to comply and continued to drive in a large circular pattern. After several minutes, officers successfully deployed a tire deflation device which flattened all four tires on Jack’s vehicle. Jack eventually stopped but remained in his vehicle and continued to ingest the controlled substance. Jack refused to exit the vehicle after numerous requests causing officers to approach and attempt to remove him. A window to the vehicle was broken and Jack physically resisted officer’s efforts to take him into custody. A Ventura K9 was inserted into the cab of the truck where Jack was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

Jack was placed under arrest and treated for minor injuries he sustained as a result of the K9 deployment. He was later booked into the Ventura County Jail for felony evading police, driving while under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.

Lewd acts with a minor arrest

In October of this year, Ventura Police Major Crimes Detectives began investigating a sexual assault involving Daniel Luna and a juvenile female, age 15. Over the course of the following two weeks, Detectives confirmed that 41 year old Ventura resident Daniel Luna had been involved in ongoing lewd acts with the victim since February of 2018.

On November 13, at 740am, Detectives arrested Luna and served a search warrant at his residence in the 400 block of Thompson Blvd. Detectives recovered evidence linking Luna to the crimes. Luna was interviewed by Detectives then transported to the Ventura County Jail where he was booked for multiple felonies related to lewd acts with a minor.

Vehicle Burglary Arrest

On November 16, at 3:25pm the Ventura Police Command Center received a call of a subject rummaging through a vehicle. The witness told the dispatcher that the vehicle belonged to a friend of his and that the person inside the vehicle was unknown to him. The witness also told the dispatcher that he confronted the individual and she (31 year old vagrant Raylene Juarez) told him she had permission to be in the vehicle. After the confrontation, Juarez exited the vehicle and left the area.

As officers arrived at the scene, they began searching the area eventually locating Juarez a short distance away. They stopped Juarez, and the witness was able to positively identified her as being the person who was inside the vehicle. Juarez was found to be in possession of property from the vehicle. Officers contacted the owner of the vehicle who told them he did not know Juarez and confirmed that the property in her possession came from his vehicle.

Juarez was arrested without incident and booked into the Ventura County Jail for felony vehicle burglary. A search of the Ventura County Superior Court shows that Juarez has been arrested 13 times this year and has three open cases pending. The majority of these arrests are drug-related.

Vol. 12, No. 3 – Nov 7 – Nov 20, 2018 – Police Reports

Vehicle Burglary Arrest

On Oct.12, at 10;30pm the victim returned to her parked vehicle inside of the parking structure located at 555 East Santa Clara Street and found the suspect sitting inside of the vehicle rummaging through the interior. After being confronted by the victim, the suspect fled. The victim followed after the suspect while simultaneously calling 911. Responding officers located the suspect and were able to take her into custody. The property she had stolen from the victim’s car was recovered and returned to the victim. At the conclusion of the investigation Jasmine Wolpe, 33 years of Ventura was booked into Ventura County Jail for the felony charge of vehicle burglary.

A review of the Ventura County Superior Court website shows that the suspect has been arrested 14 times since 2015 for various misdemeanor charges including drug possession, possession of stolen property, petty theft and delaying/ obstructing officers. According to the website, 11 of these arrests resulted in convictions.

Armed Robbery

On Oct. 18, at 7:27pm, a HMA wearing dark clothing entered a business in the 700 block of N. Ventura Avenue. He approached the employee at the counter, pulled out a gun and demanded money. The employee gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money, and the suspect fled on foot from the business. Responding officer checked the area but did not locate the suspect.

Robbery Arrest

On Oct. 25 at 1:40pm, the suspect entered a business in the 100 block of West Main Street, selected merchandise from the store and left without paying. A store employee confronted the suspect outside of the store, and the suspect pulled out a knife, brandished it and then fled. Responding officers checked the area for the suspect and located him in the nearby neighborhood. At the conclusion of the investigation, the suspect, 28 year old Ventura resident Tyler Miskiewicz, was booked into the Ventura County Jail on the felony charge of robbery.

A review of the Ventura County Superior Court website shows the suspect has been arrested 6 times in the past 2 years. The various charges included petty theft, drug possession, under the influence of drugs, obstructing officers and possession of stolen property.

Vehicle Burglary and Arrest

On Oct. 27 at 3:54pm, the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a 911 call of a vehicle burglary in progress. The call reported seeing the suspect, later identified as 37 year old vagrant Kai Rose, reach through the open window of a neighbor’s locked vehicle and take property. He was last seen leaving the area of foot. Officers responded to the call and detained Rose several blocks away.

During the investigation, officers spoke to several witnesses and positively identified Rose as the suspect. He was also found to be in possession of property stolen from the victim’s vehicle. The property was returned to the victim. Rose was arrested and later booked into the Ventura County Jail for burglary.

According to the Ventura County Superior Court website, Rose was convicted of seven separate offenses in 2016: possession of drug paraphernalia, under the influence of a controlled substance, petty theft, resisting arrest, petty theft, and possession of a controlled substance. In 2017, he was convicted of possession of burglary tools and for 2018, he shows to have an open case for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Prowling Arrest

On Oct. 28 at 5:36pm, the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a call from a motorist reporting a subject seen walking in the roadway at Telegraph Rd. and Bryn Mawr St. The caller reported the subject appeared to be under the influence and was carrying what appeared to be a toy gun wrapped in plastic. Officers arrived on scene and began checking the area.

When one of the officers was on Amherst St., a resident stopped the officer and said she just observed an unknown subject with a similar description entering her side yard and he fled when she yelled at him. Officers continued searching the area and located the subject, later identified as 35 year old Santa Paula resident Fernando Jaimes, on foot a short distance away.

Jaimes was positively identified and arrested. He was later booked into the Ventura County Jail for prowling and a parole violation. The item he was carrying was mistakenly identified as a toy gun. No one was injured as a result of this incident.

A review of the Ventura County Superior Court website shows that Jaimes has been convicted 7 times in the past 3 years. The various charges included resisting arrest, drug possession, brandishing a deadly weapon, possession of stolen property, petty theft, under the influence of drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia. In 2012, Jaimes was convicted of carjacking.

Stabbings with Arrest

On Oct. 31 at 6:02am, patrol officers responded to an incident in the 500 block of Cedar Street. Upon arrival, the officers found two stabbing victims inside of the residence. The suspect, 23 year old Ventura resident Gabrielle Nett, who was known by the victims, had fled prior to the officers’ arrival. The investigation revealed there was a disturbance inside of the house that led to the two victims being stabbed. Both victims were treated for non-life threatening wounds and transported to VCMC for additional treatment. They were both treated and later released.

Major Crimes Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded and took over the crime scene. The investigation led detectives to a residence in Ventura where they found the suspect. She was detained and at the conclusion on the investigation, she was booked into Ventura County Jail on the felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon and false imprisonment.

Vehicle Burglary Arrest

On Oct.12, at 10;30pm the victim returned to her parked vehicle inside of the parking structure located at 555 East Santa Clara Street and found the suspect sitting inside of the vehicle rummaging through the interior. After being confronted by the victim, the suspect fled. The victim followed after the suspect while simultaneously calling 911. Responding officers located the suspect and were able to take her into custody. The property she had stolen from the victim’s car was recovered and returned to the victim.

At the conclusion of the investigation Jasmine Wolpe, 33 years of Ventura was booked into Ventura County Jail for the felony charge of vehicle burglary. A review of the Ventura County Superior Court website shows that the suspect has been arrested 14 times since 2015 for various misdemeanor charges including drug possession, possession of stolen property, petty theft and delaying/ obstructing officers. According to the website, 11 of these arrests resulted in convictions.

Armed Robbery

On Oct. 18, a 7:27pm, a HMA wearing dark clothing entered a business in the 700 block of N. Ventura Avenue. He approached the employee at the counter, pulled out a gun and demanded money. The employee gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money, and the suspect fled on foot from the business. Responding officer checked the area but did not locate the suspect.

Armed Robbery

On Oct. 20, 1:38pm, a HMA, mid 20’s, black LA Dodger hat, a black ski mask covering the bottom of his face, black jacket, and tan pants, and a semi-automatic handgun, s HMA, mid 20’s, black hoodie, sunglasses, a black ski mask covering the bottom of the face, black pants, and a revolver entered H&H Liquor at 1839 E. Main St. They approached the employee at the counter, pulled out their guns and demanded money. The employee gave the suspects an undisclosed amount of money and the suspects left to the business. The suspects were last seen driving away eastbound in a white four-door compact vehicle.

Vol. 12, No. 1 – Oct 10 – Oct 23, 2018 – Police Reports

Warrant Arrest

On September 29, at approximately 2:15pm, a Ventura Patrol Task Force officer saw the suspect, 36 year old vagrant Ricardo Magallanes sitting at Mission Park. Magallanes is known to the officer and known to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest. While waiting for additional officers, Magallanes saw the officer and started to walk away from the park. The officer called out to Magallanes, but Magallanes refused to cooperate with the officer’s commands and started to run away. After a short foot pursuit, Magallanes stopped and turned around to confront the officer. A struggle ensued, and eventually, Magallanes was able to break free and started to run away. As more officers arrived on scene, Magallanes was caught near the Burger King at Ventura Ave, and Main St. Magallanes started to fight with the officers but was subdued and taken into custody.

No officers were injured as a result of this incident. Magallanes was taken to VCMC to be medically cleared before being booked into county jail for felony resisting a peace officer and his misdemeanor warrant. According to the Ventura County Superior Court records, Magallanes was convicted of resisting a peace officer in May 2016, and again for the same charge in June 2018.

Grand Theft Person and Elder Abuse Arrest

On October 4, at approximately 4:45pm, officers responded to reports of a theft that had just occurred near Telephone Road and Petit Avenue. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the 90 year old victim. She told the officers she was walking in the area when the suspect, 32 year old Ventura resident Yvette Deleon, approached, took her purse from her possession and ran away. Witnesses nearby saw the incident occur and attempted to intervene; however the suspect threw the purse down and fled from them as well.

After a brief search of the surrounding area, officers located the suspect. She was detained and at the conclusion of the investigation, she was booked into Ventura County Jail on the felony charges of grand theft from a person and elder abuse.

Child Annoyance Arrest

On September 9, at approximately 6pm, the Ventura Police Command Center received a 911 call from the mother of a juvenile who was reporting that her son and his friend were being chased by a suspect later identified as 32 year old Ventura resident Tyler Spann. During the chase, the juveniles smartly ran to the McDonalds located on Telegraph Rd. Once at McDonald’s they were picked up by one of their parents who began following Spann and informed the Command Center of his location.

As officers arrived, the youths told the officers that they were at the intersection of Telegraph and Colton when Spann approached them on a bicycle. Spann tried to engage the two in conversation by asking them questions, the content of which scared the two juveniles. Fearing for their safety, the two youths started to run away from Spann. Spann took chase after them and was able to stop one of the two. Once Spann caught up to the youth he made a sexual gesture towards the youngster. Again, fearing for his safety, the youth took off running until he made it to the McDonald’s.

Additional officers in the area stopped Spann in the area of Telegraph and Hoover. Once detained, Spann failed to listen to the officer’s directions and started fighting with the officers. After the struggle, two officers suffered minor injuries that did not require medical attention. Neither of the two juveniles was injured, and Spann had some minor abrasions. Spann was taken to a local hospital for a medical clearance and booked into Ventura County Jail for felony resisting arrest, felony delaying a peace officer and misdemeanor child annoyance.

According to the Ventura County Superior Court records, Spann has been convicted of felony battery on a peace officer in July 2017, felony resisting arrest in November 2015, misdemeanor resisting a peace officer in February 2015, and felony resisting a peace officer in December 2014.

Felony Child Endangerment and Resisting Arrest

On September 17, at approximately 11:30am, the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a 911 call reporting a subject that was seen climbing to the rooftop of a 4 story building in the 20 block of S. California St. using the outside fire-escape. It was reported that the subject, later identified as 27 year old vagrant Maryann Salazar, was holding a small child. Officers responded to the scene and located Salazar, who was holding her 9-month-old male child on the roof of the building. Salazar refused to give her child to the officers. Fearing for the child’s safety, the officers had to forcefully remove the child from Salazar.

Salazar resisted the officers and was taken into custody without further incident.

The child was not injured, but as a precaution was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center to be medically checked. Child and Family Services was contacted and will take custody of the child upon his release.

Salazar was later booked into the Ventura County Jail for felony child endangerment and resisting arrest.

According to the Ventura County Superior Court website, Salazar has an open case from 2017 for assault on a peace officer and resisting arrest.

Ruptured Gas Line (fire report)

On September 19, at approximately 6:30pm, Ventura City fire crews responded to a reported gas leak. The first arriving crew discovered a large diameter distribution gas line was ruptured during installation of fiber optic line by a private contractor. Fire crews isolated the area and restricted entry while simultaneously using monitoring equipment to detect gas levels and controlling ignition sources.

Residences and businesses in the affected area were notified and advised to shelter in place. Scene managers worked with Ventura County OES and American Red Cross on a contingency for the evacuation of a 75 unit apartment building adjacent to the rupture.

Ventura Police assisted with traffic and scene control and evacuation planning. Ventura Streets, Signals Water and Public Works Departments responded to assist. Gas Company construction crews responded and excavated 4 separate holes to control the gas flow.

Bicycle Theft Arrest

On September 23, at approximately 7:30pm, the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a 911 call from an alert citizen who had just witnessed a theft of two bicycles. The bicycles were attached to a car rack on the back of a vehicle. The witness saw the suspect go up to a car and cut the lock securing the bikes to the rack. The suspect then took the bikes and rode away from the area.

Ventura patrol officers arrived in the area and began looking for Covarrubias eventually finding him in on Ralston St and Saratoga Ave. He was still in possession of the bikes as well as burglary tools. A second officer contacted the victim who was not aware that the theft had occurred. The victim was able to identify that the bicycles were his and that Covarrubias did not have permission to have them.

Covarrubias was arrested and taken into custody for felony grand theft, and misdemeanor possession of burglary tools. No one was injured during this incident.

Armed Robbery

On August 7, at approximately 4pm, the suspect entered a business in the 11000 block of Citrus Drve and approached the cashier. The suspect, who was armed with a handgun, demanded money and after receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, he fled the business. Responding officers checked the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

On August 30, at 5:30pm, 35 year old Santa Paula resident Jonathan Landeros walked into the Ventura Police Department’s front lobby and said he believed he was wanted for robbery. Major Crimes Detectives interviewed Landeros and confirmed he was the suspect that robbed the 76 gas station on August 7. Landeros saw a photograph of himself on Ventura Police Department’s social media site and decided to turn himself in. On August 30, at 10:45pm, Detectives executed a search warrant at Landeros’ residence in the 100 Block of West Main Street in the City of Santa Paula. Landeros was later booked at the Ventura County Jail for Robbery.

Attempt to Disarm an Officer

On August 25, at approximately 10am, the Ventura Police Command Center received a call of a subject refusing to leave CMH hospital. The caller also told dispatchers that the subject was in possession of a knife. As officers arrived at the location, they were told by a victim that the suspect later identified as 31 year old Ventura resident Richard Rivera, threw an unknown object at the victim’s car causing minor damage to their vehicle.

Officers began canvassing the area and found Rivera in the 2600 block of E. Thompson. As the officers made contact with Rivera, he became uncooperative and refused to follow their verbal directions. When the officers started to place Rivera in custody, he began to fight with them and at one point attempted to remove an officer’s firearm from his holster. After a long struggle, the officers were finally able to get control of Rivera and handcuffed him. Rivera was transported to VCJ where he was booked for, felony attempting to remove a firearm from an officer, felony resisting a peace officer and misdemeanor vandalism.

In 2016 Rivera was arrested for felony possession of controlled substance, and in 2017 he was arrested for misdemeanor trespassing.

Traffic Pursuit with Arrest

On September 5, at approximately 8:30pm, a Ventura Police Patrol Officer attempted to stop a four wheel, off road “quad” for riding on a roadway. The driver did not yield to the officer and fled. After a brief pursuit, the suspect abandoned the “quad” and ran into the neighborhood. Officers and a police k9 searched the area, and after approximately 20 minutes, the suspect was located hiding in a shed in a backyard of a residence on Carr Drive.

The suspect, 26 year old Ventura resident Jose Cardenas who is on active parole for robbery, was arrested and booked into Ventura County Jail on the charges of felony evading, violation of parole and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance.

Violation of Restraining Order and Obstructing Arrest

On September 6, at approximately 8:30am, the Ventura Police Department was working a high risk incident in the 10100 block of Carlyle St. involving a suicidal subject. The SWAT team had been deployed and members of the Ventura Police Crisis Negotiation team were scene negotiating with the subject.

34 year old Jason Ordoyne, was armed with a hammer and threatened to engage officers when they arrived. Ordoyne was also at the residence in violation of a court order.

Ordoyne had barricaded himself inside and refused to come out of the residence. He was uncooperative with officers, and had made several threats that he was going to arm himself with a knife and come out to force officers to shoot him. Officers with the Ventura Police Crisis Negotiations team continued to negotiate with Ordyne and after approximately 5 hours, he agreed to leave the residence and was taken into custody without incident.

Possession of a Handgun by a Prohibited Person

On September 6, at approximately 4pm, officers conducted a traffic stop in the 2100 block of Harbor Blvd. and spoke with the driver of the vehicle, 39 year old Ventura resident Stephanie Paez. She was driving with suspended driver’s license and was also a Post Release Offender (PROs). Additionally, she was found to be in possession of narcotics paraphernalia. The passenger, 41 year old Ventura resident Disenia Paez, was also contacted. She was found to be on probation for weapons charges, and a search revealed she was in possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

At the conclusion of the investigation, Stephanie Paez was booked on the charge of possession of narcotics paraphernalia and a violation of her Post Release Offender status. Disenia Paez was booked on the charges of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
