37 Dogs from Ventura County Animal Services Find Fresh Start in Wisconsin

By Ventura Breeze Staff

In a heartwarming effort to give shelter dogs a second chance, 37 pups from Ventura County Animal Services (VCAS) were flown to Wisconsin to find loving homes—many of whom had been long-stay residents, patiently waiting for their forever families.

This lifesaving transport, made possible by the Humane Society of the United States, came at a crucial time as VCAS faced a critical overcapacity crisis, recently reaching 142%. “With shelter space stretched beyond its limits, collaborative efforts like these are essential to ensuring every pet has a future filled with love and care.” Says Randy Friedman, Public Information Officer for VCAS.

This operation was a true team effort. VCAS extended deepest gratitude to the Humane Society of the United States for sponsoring and organizing the mission alongside HAWS of Waukesha County. Special recognition to Wings of Rescue for providing safe air transport and to the Southwest Animal Transport Team, whose dedicated volunteers accompanied the dogs to ensure a smooth and comfortable journey.

Most importantly, this wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering dedication of VCAS staff. From latenight organizing and detailed health checks to braving the cold to safely load the pups, their commitment to these animals shines through.

Every dog deserves a chance at a loving home, and thanks to this incredible collaboration, 37 more are getting just that.
