JoAnna Steele’s planned closing of the Studio Gallery.
The public is invited to share in honoring long-standing Silver Strand (Oxnard) resident and owner of the Studio Gallery in Channel Islands, JoAnna Steele. Serving local residents and tourists for over 45 years, JoAnna created a loyal following with her warm and friendly personality, expert framing eye, eclectic mix of fine art and craft and respect for artists. This era will now come to a close with JoAnna’s planned closing of the Studio Gallery and retirement this Fall.
Working in ceramics, JoAnna opened her first gallery in the west side of Channel Islands Harbor with stained glass artist, Peter La Velle, in 1975. They both sold their work and taught classes in their respective mediums. JoAnna moved to the newly built Fisherman’s Wharf in 1978 where her relationships with the community and local artists blossomed and framing became her new art form. Among the hundreds of artists she represented include Glenn Spangler, Bill Creitz, Robert Eyberg, Robert Engel, Aimee French, Phyllis Doyon, Jacqueline Biaggi, David Smith, Jacqueline Cavish, Hanna Lore Hombordy and Margy Gates.
