The Channel Islands YMCA celebrated the accomplishments of its 130th year

Sal Cisneros, Sherry Gutsch, Health and Wellness Director and Claudia Steele-Major receiving Community Collaboration Award at 2017 YMCA annual meeting.

“The Community Collaboration Award is the highest tribute and recognizes a partner for their dedication and outstanding contribution to the mission of the Y – to strengthen the community. Over and above a provision of service, the recipient exemplifies a true partnership, offering participation and a joint interest in our cause. It is an honor to partner with Community Memorial Health System and recognize them this evening,” said Sal Cisneros, President and CEO of the Channel Islands YMCA.

When LiveSTRONG™ at the YMCA was launched at the Ventura Family YMCA, we reached out to Community Memorial Health System’s Coastal Communities Cancer Resource Center for referrals.  They referred participants who had finished their cancer treatment and were ready to begin rebuilding their strength.  Our LiveSTRONG program members are able to attend community events hosted by CMHS for free. The Y has been able to increase the number of cancer survivors in LiveSTRONG from 18 participants per year to 48 participants and growing.

This year’s award was accepted by Claudia Steele-Major, a representative from the Coastal Communities Cancer Resource Center at Community Memorial Health System and Sherry Gutsch, Health and Wellness Director, Ventura Family YMCA.

There will be a One-Mile Survivor Walk at the 18th Annual 5K Walk taking place on Saturday, July 29 at 8am.
