VENTURA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT PARCEL TAX DEFEATED

By Ventura Breeze Staff
Voters narrowly defeated Ventura Unified School District’s Measure H in a strikingly close vote. With all ballots counted, Measure H garnered 66.48% support—just shy of the 66.67% required for approval.

The defeat of Measure H spares taxpayers $2.5 million annually, amounting to a total savings of $20 million over eight years.

This decision follows Measure E, which voters approved in November 2022 and provided Ventura Unified School District (VUSD) with $434.5 million in funding. Measure E is financed by a bond requiring property owners to pay $60 per $100,000 of their home’s assessed value—a significant cost for most residents.

The close vote on Measure H is particularly notable given Ventura County residents’ widespread opposition to new taxes. A recent survey conducted by EMC Research, commissioned by the Ventura County Supervisors, revealed that 75% of respondents believe taxes already overburden residents.
