On August 8th, Grace Nackers from Ventura will attempt an unassisted, (no wetsuit) swim across the Santa Barbara Channel from Anacapa Island to the mainland, which is 12.4 miles across and parts of the water that are over 2,000 feet deep.
Said Grace, “Marathon swimming for me is never just about the swimming or the challenge. It carries a bigger vision…To harness the power of sport and create purpose to shine a light on something greater than ourselves – the health and wellbeing of others. I channel my courage and energy thinking about how our First Responders and Veterans need more support. Especially after the devastating fires Southern California’s dealt with during the last year.”
She continued, “This marathon swim is incredibly important for me so all the support I can get will help remind me that our community does rally behind our heroes and will keep me in mind during my journey. After I complete it, it won’t just be about the distance swam, but it’s the courage, overcoming fear, fighting the cold and all of the unexpected, and showing there are come backs after setbacks. With that, I can help share a story about perseverance and help encourage others to reach for their goals, whatever they may be.”
This fundraiser will support First Responders that were called to the Mountain Fire, Eaton Fire and or Palisades Fire and any Vet that wishes to participate in the Ventura 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. I’d like to pay their participation fee so they can attend for free and do something meaningful to them. Additional proceeds will be for Gold Star Families.
She’ll have a GPS tracking device to tell her when she’s nearing shore and landing at Silver Strand Beach. She’d love some smiling faces on shore to greet her. https://bio.site/ChannelWithGrace
