Ventura County Dart Association Hosts Annual Tournament and Toy Drive

By Ventura Breeze Staff –

On Saturday, Dec. 14, the Ventura County Dart Association (VCDA) held its annual dart tournament and Toy Drive at the Elks Lodge. Known as one of California’s longest-running dart leagues, the VCDA has provided a thriving community for dart enthusiasts since its inception in 1996 – apart from a brief pause during the COVID-19 pandemic.

While many dart leagues have struggled post-pandemic, the VCDA has cultivated a vibrant environment where darts continue to flourish. The league hosts team and singles matches across Ventura County, supported by six dedicated sponsors: Poseidon Brewery, Victoria Pub and Grill, the Elks Lodge, the Moose Lodge, The Garage Bar in Ventura, and The Clubhouse in Camarillo. These establishments serve as venues for league matches, while also enjoying increased patronage from the VCDA’s loyal community.

Originally launched by Bob Cobb, a former Marine and retired Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department lieutenant, the tournament began at the Bench Warmer bar and later transitioned to the Elks Lodge post-COVID. What started as a benefit for Toys for Tots now supports the Spark of Love Holiday Toy Drive, the nation’s largest community toy drive, organized by the Los Angeles Fire Department and ABC7. Spark of Love collects new, unwrapped toys and sports equipment for children in need across Southern California.

This year’s tournament drew 14 dart shooters, along with numerous supporters who joined the festivities. The VCDA prides itself on fostering an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere, encouraging players of all skill levels to participate. For newcomers, the league offers plenty of opportunities to learn and enjoy the game in a friendly, supportive setting.

As teams begin forming for the Spring Season, the VCDA is actively seeking new sponsors and players. The league also hosts a multi-divisional singles competition, offering something for everyone.

For more information or to get involved, visit vcda.org or email vcda@vcda.org. League members are happy to arrange meetings to answer questions and guide new players through the process.

Participants enjoy camaraderie and competition at the VCDA’s annual tournament and Toy Drive.
