The City of Ventura has officially broken ground on the Cabrillo Village Multi-Use Path

This transformative project is designed to improve active transportation options and improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians.

Funded by a $1.3 million Caltrans Clean California grant and $500,000 from the Ventura County Transportation Commission’s Transportation Development Act, Article 3, this project will construct a dedicated Class I bike trail along the north bank of the Santa Clara River, closing the final gap in a continuous 2-mile active transportation corridor.

On Monday, March 24, 2025, local elected officials, city staff, and community members gathered to celebrate the start of construction on this long-awaited project. Located near Saticoy Avenue, construction is anticipated to be completed at the end of summer 2025.

“This project is more than just a bike and pedestrian path—it’s about connectivity, sustainability, and enhancing quality of life,” said Mayor Dr. Jeannette Sanchez-Palacios. “By investing in safer, more accessible transportation options, we’re ensuring that residents can move through our city in ways that support both their well-being and our environment.”

The project will provide a safe and dedicated trail for cyclists and pedestrians, featuring landscaping with native plants to support the local ecosystem. Stormwater infiltration features will be incorporated to reduce run-off and improve water quality, contributing to the project’s environmentally friendly design. Additionally, the new path will enhance mobility and connectivity within the regional trail network, offering residents a safer and more sustainable transportation alternative.
