Start your New Year’s celebration early with Noon Years Eve Storytime at Hill Road Library Tuesday, December 31, 2024, 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Visit Hill Road Library for a daytime celebration of the new year, Noon Year’s Eve! Families and children are invited to this event featuring crafts, storytime, and a Countdown to Noon Year’s Eve party!

If your new year’s resolution is to get closer to nature, join Certified Master Gardener, Terry Garman at Avenue Library for Vegetable Gardening Fundamentals, Wednesday, January 8, 4:00 to 5:00 pm.

Learn how to enjoy an endless supply of fresh, nutritious vegetables from your own garden with this “Getting Started with Growing Your Own Food” class. In this tips-filled session, you’ll get essential tips for planning your edible garden, choosing the right plants for your space and our Ventura climate, and basic growing techniques to help ensure success. In the January session, “From Soil to Sprouts,” Terry will share basic growing techniques as well as tips for planning your edible garden and choosing the right plants for your space. Hill Road Library, Tuesday, January 21, 5:00 to 6:00 pm.

The February session, “Growing Leafy Bounty Year-Round,” will focus on planting various greens suited for the local Ventura climate, season extension methods, soil preparation, managing common diseases and pests, and harvesting tips for continual production. Whether you are a brand-new or experienced gardener, you’ll learn the skills necessary to transform your yard into an affordable, edible oasis. Hill Road Library, Tuesday, February 11, 5:00 to 6:00 pm.

The Ventura County Library is partnering with Interface Children & Family Services to host a series of presentations during Human Trafficking Prevention and Awareness Month. “Labor Trafficking 101,” a community awareness presentation, is designed to inform the community about human trafficking and labor trafficking along the central coast and identify helpful services and resources. Participants will also learn how to recognize individuals who may be at risk for labor trafficking and identify indicators of labor trafficking. Presentations will take place at the Ojai Library on Tuesday, January 14, at 6:00 pm; at the Fillmore Library on Tuesday, January 21, at 6:00 pm; and at the E.P. Foster Library on Tuesday, January 28, at 5:00 pm. The E.P. Foster presentation will also include a screening of the documentary film Trafficked In America.
