Ventura Police Host Community Presentation on Military Equipment Use
VENTURA, Calif. — The Ventura Police Department invites community members to attend a virtual presentation on the department’s Annual Military Equipment Report on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. on Microsoft Teams. No prior registration is required.
The presentation will provide an overview of the report, including the specific equipment authorized for use by the department and how that equipment is utilized in the interest of community and officer safety. Department leadership will also discuss the policies, procedures, and legal requirements governing the use of military equipment in Ventura.
“We remain committed to transparency, accountability, and keeping our community informed about the tools and equipment used by our department,” said Chief David Dickey. “These presentations provide an opportunity for residents to better understand how this equipment supports public safety while ensuring its use remains carefully regulated and responsibly managed.”
The term “military equipment” does not necessarily refer to equipment used exclusively by the military. Under California law, the term includes a variety of tools and technologies commonly used by law enforcement agencies nationwide, such as unmanned aerial systems, armored vehicles, command and control vehicles, less lethal 40mm projectile launchers, noise flash diversionary devices, and certain types of ammunition.
The equipment used by the Ventura Police Department is intended to enhance the safety of both community members and officers and, in some cases, help resolve critical incidents in ways that reduce the likelihood of lethal force.
On May 12, 2026, the Ventura City Council received the Annual Military Equipment Report and approved the continued use of the specified equipment.
Community members can access the Microsoft Teams meeting link and additional information online at www.cityofventura.ca.gov/Transparency.
