Navigating Dynamic Aging – An author talk with Joan Virginia Allen – at the Ojai Library
Local Ojai author Joan Virginia Allen will visit the Ojai Library at 2pm on Saturday, June 13, 2026, to talk about her book Navigating Dynamic Aging.
Navigating Dynamic Aging is the inspiring memoir of Joan Virginia Allen. In this deeply personal work, Joan reflects on the experiences that led her to embrace dynamic aging as a way of life shaped by curiosity, courage, and commitment. Now 88, she challenges outdated assumptions about growing older—among them her decision to train for a demanding Yosemite hike in her eighth decade—and reimagines life as a continuing adventure.
A retired elder law and estate planning attorney, Joan is a memoirist, speaker, movement advocate, publisher of the online Dynamic Aging 4 Life Magazine, and a co-author of the internationally acclaimed Dynamic Aging with biomechanist Katy Bowman. She is the proud mother of four, grandmother of eight, a new great-grandmother, and lives with her husband of more than fifty years on a ranch in the Upper Ojai, where she continues to approach life with intention and exploration.
This special program will include a memoir talk, selected readings, time for questions and answers, and a book signing. Attendees will enjoy an engaging afternoon of storytelling and reflection and will be invited to explore and discover for themselves what dynamic aging may mean in their own lives—opening new perspectives on aging and possibilities at any stage.
This event is free and open to the public. For additional information, contact Ron Solórzano, Regional Librarian, at (805) 218-9146 or ron.solorzano@venturacounty.gov.
The Ojai Library is located at 111 East Ojai Avenue in Ojai, CA. Hours of service are 10am to 8pm Monday through Thursday and 12pm to 5pm Friday through Sunday.
