Performing Philip Glass and Frédéric Chopin

Chamber On The Mountain, a chamber music concert series in Ojai, CA, presents Pianist Hui Wu, with guest artist, Joo Kim for an extraordinary musical experience in a setting of extraordinary beauty. To open the program, Hui Wu will perform Philip Glass’s composition of “Wichita Vortex Sutra,” with the poem by Allen Ginsberg recited by Guest Artist, Veteran Joo Kim. Pianist Hui Wu then juxtaposes two cornerstones of the piano repertoire: the complete Op. 25 Etudes of Frédéric Chopin and the 10 Etudes of Philip Glass (Book I). By pairing these cycles, the program explores the “Etude” as both a technical laboratory and a high-art form, tracing the line from Chopin’s 19th-century chromaticism to Glass’s 21st century minimalism.

Meet the artists at a lovely reception immediately following the performance, with a special wine tasting by Stevenson Oaks Vineyard and Winery of Ojai.

Hailed by The New York Times for her “sparkling” artistry, pianist, composer, and creative producer Hui Wu reshapes the classical concert into a multidimensional experience. Rooted in both contemporary and classical repertoire, she moves effortlessly between the concert-hall piano and the majestic pipes of a centuries-old cathedral organ. In addition to her international performance career, Hui is a sought-after teacher and visionary educator.

Hui is an acclaimed global artist, featured at prestigious festivals and concert halls around the world, including the Taos School of Music, Yellow Barn Chamber Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, PianoTexas, and the Beijing International Music Festival and Academy. She has collaborated with leading orchestras such as the Salzburg Philharmonics, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the New Juilliard Ensemble, and has appeared at renowned venues including Walt Disney Concert Hall and Lincoln Center’s Tully Scope Festival.

Tickets: $40. Chamber On The Mountain | PO Box 804 | Ojai, CA 93024 | (805) 646-3381 | www.ChamberOnTheMountain.com
